met the same evening , when the Festival of Sfc . John was duly observed . Bro . John Stuart presided . Tho meeting was a great success . St . John ' s Lodge , Alloa , No . 69 . —The brethren of thi Lodge dined together in their Hall , on tho 27 th ult . Bro . Dr . Milne R . W . M . presided , and there was a large attendance .
St . Fergus Lodge , Wick . —The members of this Lodge held a torchlight procession on the 27 th ult . There was a large turn-out , and thero being no moonlight , the blaze of light from the long line of torches was very effective . The procession started from the hall
in Hnion-strect , and proceeded along the principal streets of Palteney-town and Wick . Returning again to their hall , they enjoyed an excellent sapper , after which dancing commenced , which was kept up till an early hour .
Ancient and Accepted Rite . —At the last meeting of tho Invicta Chapter , Sovereign Prince Rose Croix H . R . D . M ., held at tho Masonio Hall , No . 33 Golden-square , W ., onr 111 . Bro . Magnus Ohren 31 ° , was installed M . W . S . of that Chapter . The Installing Officer was the 111 . Bro . W . Hyde Pullen 33 ° .
The first meeting of the Board of Stewards for the approaching Festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , was held at Freemasons' Hall , on Thursday afternoon . Bro . Terry , the Secretary , having announced that His Royal Highness the Grand Master had approved
of the Festival being held on the 13 th February , and that His Grace the Duke of Manchester had kindly consented to preside on the occasion , stated that up to the present
time the number of brethren who had agreed to fill the office of Steward was not so considerable as it was at the same meeting last year . Still , the success that had attended his efforts to obtain the services of brethren in
this capacity , had been far greater than m any previous year except the last , there being already 189 Stewards . Bro . E . Cox proposed , and Bro . G . Ward Verry seconded , that Bro . Joseph Smith be elected as President of the Board . This was carried unanimously , as were
the further propositions of Bros . Verry and Phythian in the one case , and Bros . Verry and Cox in the other , that Bro . E . Cox be the Treasurer , and Bro . James Terry the Honorary Secretary . It having been arranged that the banquet should be held , as usual , at Freemasons' Tavern ,
it was agreed that the price of tickets should be a guinea each for brethren , and half-a-gninea each for ladies . The amount to be contributed by the Stewards towards the expenses of the Festival was fixed at two guineas apiece . A Committee , to make the necessary musical
arrangements , was appointed , the sum to be paid for tbe services of the artists engaged being limited to twenty-five guineas . The next meeting will be held on Thursday , the 24 th inst ., at 4 p . m ., the Musical Committee meeting three-quarters of an hour earlier for the purpose

The usual Twelfth Night Entertainment to those of the Girls who remain at the School during the Christmas holidays will be given on Monday next , commencing at 4 p . m . We have no doubt there will be the usual number of visitors present , and we are sure they will make a point
of doing their utmost to contribute to the pleasure of the little girls . Those who are compelled to remain behind , either because their relatives are beyond visiting distance
or abroad , or from other cause , deserve that some such kindness as this should be shown them , and we trust the meeting will pass off as agreeably as it invariably has done in former years .
During the past year tho Royal National Lifeboat Institution has rescued , by means of its lifeboats , 811 persona from drowning , and has saved 35 vessels from destruction . In addition , it has distributed rewards to the crews of fishing and other boats for saving 200 more persons , making a total of 1041 lives saved through its instriipenality ,
