Kirk , Thomas Willicott , Murray Thompson aud P . H . Nicholls , candidates

for advancement , and in each case it proved unanimous . The chair was then taken by Bro . W . Ronie G . S . D . and Bro . J . S . Kirk was presented aud advanced to the honourable degree of M . M . M . The brethren then proceeded to the election of W . M . for the ensuing yoar , their choice fell unanimously on Bro . Milligan S . W . Bro . J . T . Richardson was elected Treasurer , Bro . J . B . Kirk T yler , and Bros .

Milligan , Peel and Middleton were appointed Auditors . A petition was then presented , signed by several brethren , praying the sanction of the W . M . and Wardens for the formation of a Lodge of Instruction for the Mark degree , in Manchester . The required permission was granted , with best hopes that the Locige of Instruction might prosper . Hearty good wishes were expressed from Union Mark

comprised the rehearsal of the ceremony of Initiation , Bro . Heinrich candidate . Bro . Isaac worked the first , Bro . The Old Concord Lodge , No . 172 . —The warrant was granted iu the year of grace 1708 , consequently this Locige has attained tho ripe age of 110 years , and if wo may judge from the prosperous condition in which we find ' it at the present clay , we may naturally anticipate—to use an oft-repeated phrase—it will continue to exist so long as the Craft is recognised . Tho installation meeting

was held on Tuesday last , at Freemasons' Hall , Great Queen-street , Lincolns-Inn-Fields . Bro . J . Sandilands Ward presided , ancl ho was supported by a goodly array of Past Masters , Officers , ancl members of his own Locige , whilst amongst tho visitors we recognised Bros . W . C . Clark S . regularly installed into the chair of King Solomon . Those brethren who are not privileged to wear the levels having been re-admitted , tho W . M . was saluted , and he proceeded to invest his Officers : —Bros . Gaubert S . W ., Hoadley J . W ., Hancock Treasurer , G . King P . M . Secretary , Gladwell S . D ., Stedman J . D ., Pemberton nominated as I . G ., E . Dottridge P . M . D . C , Drew Organist , T . C . Speight Tyler .

The few remarks uttered by Bro . Dottridge in addressing his Officers on their several appointments were well considered , and won the approval of all present . Bro . King then gave the addresses , ancl completed his work as installing Master in a most forcible and impressive style . Tho report of the Auditors showed the Lodge funds were in an eminently satisfactory condition , while to the balance of

the Benevolent Fund attached to the Lodge was credited tho substantial sum of £ 224 13 s 7 ci . Routine business followed , ancl au announcement was made that Bro . Gladwell S . D . had undertaken to act as Steward at the forthcoming Festival for the Royal Masonio Institution for Girls . Lodge was then closed and the brethren adjourned to the Crown Room , where a capital banquet was served by

Bro . Best , under tho superiiiteiidaiice of Bro . Dawkius . In due course the cloth was cleared , and Bro . Dottridge proceeded with the list of toasts . The health of tho Queen , ho said , was amongst assemblies of Englishmen always received with welcome •especially so amongst Masons . Throughout her long and prosperous reign she Las

always studied the welfare of her subjects . She loves her people us she loves her children ; she is a good mother , and this is evidenced by the consideration her children always accord her . Dottridge remarked that the brethren throughout tho length and breadth of the land appreciated the way iu which , in their emergency , the Princo of Wales had accepted tho office left vacant

by tho resignation of the Marquis of Ripon . His Royal Highness was at all times cheerful and affable , and as a proof that Masonry under his rule was popular , ho would merely direct attention to tho Lodges , over 200 , that have been added to tho muster roll of Graud Lodge . Ho would call on them to drink tho health of the Prince of Wales , whom all appreciated as a thoroughly good-hearted English

gentleman . The brethren were then called upon to toast the Earl of Carnarvon , tho W . M ., stating that tho Pro Grand Master at all times exhibited a knowledge of Masonio law and an acquaintance with tho ancient landmarks . He was recognised by all as an able statesman ; we , personally , could testify to his popularity as an able Mason . After due honour had been paid to the D . G . M . Lord Skelmersdale aud the

rest of the Grand Officers , Bro . Dottridge gave the health of tho Visitors . The members of the Old Concord were always pleased to see them ; he recapitulated their names and several qualifications ; ho tendered them on behalf of his Lodgo a hearty welcome , and personally ho wished one and all a happy and prosperous new year . Bros . Cusworth , Beunett , and Bowyer , who were called npon by tho

W . M ., acknowledged the compliment , and expressed the satisfaction of the Visitors at the way in which the proceedings , both in Lodge and at the festive board , had been conducted . Bro . "Ward I . P . M . proposed the health of Bro . Dottridge , and referred to what he had said when ho invested his officers as evidence of what mi ght bo expected of him . He ( Bro . Ward ) was convinced the W . M . would do

honour to their choice , ancl the lustre of the Old Concord , which had shono brightly for upwards of 100 years , would not be dimmed under tho present ruler of the Lodge . Tho W . M . said he hardly knew how to return thanks . He was reminded of an anecdote told of an old and gallant Member of Parliament , who declared he would at any time rather face an enemy than speak before a battery of bonnets iu

tho Ladies Gallery . He felt somewhat in the same position before the members of his Lodge . As Master ho would exert himself to tho best of his ability . He trusted they might have a successful year . He was gratified and proud to be in his present position and quarters . The Wan-ant was granted to hold the Lodgo in Great Queen-street , and here , after 110 years , they were still holding thoir

meetings . The Locige had , in the course of its existence , passed through vicissitudes , but ho trusted it would continue in its present prosperous condition for many , many years to come . Tho W . M . next proposed the health of the Past Masters ; during the year they had lost ono of the most respected—he referred to their late Bro . John Emmens—who had faithfully filled tho post of Secretary to

their Locige for upwards of twenty years . Their immediate Past Master , Bro . Ward , had faithfully discharged his duty , and tho brethren had unanimously voted him the P . M . ' s jewel ; this he had infinite pleasure in presenting . A similar jewel had been voted to many worthy recipients , but no worthier Master than Bro . Ward had ever filled the chair of the Old Concord Lodge .

After this had been feelingly acknowledged by Bro . Ward , the remaining toasts were given ; they comprised the health of the Treasurer aud Secretary , responded to by Bros . Hancock and George King P . M . ; Success to tho Benevolent Fund , coupled with the name of Bro . P . M . Gurton , who replied ; the Officers , acknowledged by Bro . Gaubert ; and finally tho Tyler ' s , which brought the evening to a close . The musical arrangements of the evening were entrusted

to Bro . Stedman , who was ably assisted by Miss Jessie Royd , Bros . Georgo Musgrave , Drew , and C . H . R . Marriott . Miss Jessie Eoyd's rendering of the song , by Skeaf , "Somebody , " afforded intense gratification ; Bro . Musgrave—always good—excelled himself iu " Tho Tar ' s Farewell ; " while Bro . Stodman ' s " Mary of Argyle " was given with exquisite finish .

PhceniX Lodge , No . 257 . —The installation of the Worshipful Master of this Locige for the ensuing year took place on Thursday , 27 th nit ., a large number of members and visitors attending . Bro . Dr . Jacob O'Connor , on whom the choice of the brethren had fallen , having been duly presented to the W . M . ( Bro . T . Court ) by Bro . De Fraine P . M ., was installed , according to ancient custom , the

W . M ., acknowledged the compliment , and expressed the satisfaction of the Visitors at the way in which the proceedings , both in Lodge and at the festive board , had been conducted . Bro . "Ward I . P . M . proposed the health of Bro . Dottridge , and referred to what he had said when ho invested his officers as evidence of what mi ght bo expected of him . He ( Bro . Ward ) was convinced the W . M . would do

honour to their choice , ancl the lustre of the Old Concord , which had shono brightly for upwards of 100 years , would not be dimmed under tho present ruler of the Lodge . Tho W . M . said he hardly knew how to return thanks . He was reminded of an anecdote told of an old and gallant Member of Parliament , who declared he would at any time rather face an enemy than speak before a battery of bonnets iu

tho Ladies Gallery . He felt somewhat in the same position before the members of his Lodge . As Master ho would exert himself to tho best of his ability . He trusted they might have a successful year . He was gratified and proud to be in his present position and quarters . The Wan-ant was granted to hold the Lodgo in Great Queen-street , and here , after 110 years , they were still holding thoir

meetings . The Locige had , in the course of its existence , passed through vicissitudes , but ho trusted it would continue in its present prosperous condition for many , many years to come . Tho W . M . next proposed the health of the Past Masters ; during the year they had lost ono of the most respected—he referred to their late Bro . John Emmens—who had faithfully filled tho post of Secretary to

their Locige for upwards of twenty years . Their immediate Past Master , Bro . Ward , had faithfully discharged his duty , and tho brethren had unanimously voted him the P . M . ' s jewel ; this he had infinite pleasure in presenting . A similar jewel had been voted to many worthy recipients , but no worthier Master than Bro . Ward had ever filled the chair of the Old Concord Lodge .

After this had been feelingly acknowledged by Bro . Ward , the remaining toasts were given ; they comprised the health of the Treasurer aud Secretary , responded to by Bros . Hancock and George King P . M . ; Success to tho Benevolent Fund , coupled with the name of Bro . P . M . Gurton , who replied ; the Officers , acknowledged by Bro . Gaubert ; and finally tho Tyler ' s , which brought the evening to a close . The musical arrangements of the evening were entrusted

to Bro . Stedman , who was ably assisted by Miss Jessie Royd , Bros . Georgo Musgrave , Drew , and C . H . R . Marriott . Miss Jessie Eoyd's rendering of the song , by Skeaf , "Somebody , " afforded intense gratification ; Bro . Musgrave—always good—excelled himself iu " Tho Tar ' s Farewell ; " while Bro . Stodman ' s " Mary of Argyle " was given with exquisite finish .

PhceniX Lodge , No . 257 . —The installation of the Worshipful Master of this Locige for the ensuing year took place on Thursday , 27 th nit ., a large number of members and visitors attending . M ., was installed , according to ancient custom , the
