A MEETING of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons for the Province of Cheshire was held at the Crewe Arms Hotel , Crowe , on Thursday afternoon , the 27 th ult ., when Companion the Rev . Charles "William Spencer Stanhope , M . A ., was installed as Grand
Superintendent of Royal Arch Masons for Cheshire , to which office he was appointed by his Royal Highness the Prince of Wales Most Excellent Grand Superintendent of England , in succession to the late Companion Lord de Tabley . There
was a large attendance , and the proceedings throughout were of a most imposing and impressive character . The Installing Officer was Companion Colonel Shadwell H . Clerke , of London , Grand Scribe E ., who acted as first
Grand Principal , Comp . F . A . Philbrick Grand Registrar and G . S . of Essex , officiated as Second Grand Principal , and the chair of J . was occupied by Comp . Colonel H . D . Sandeman Past G . Sup . of Bengal . The acting Grand Director of Ceremonies was Comp . J . H . Matthews
Past A . G . D . of C . There was also present a numerous assemblage of Royal Arch Masons . The Installing Officer having taken the chair , opened Provincial Grand Chapter , and stated the object of the
meeting . The roll of Chapters was called , when ifc was found that there were about 60 present , and that four Chapters were not represented . The Grand Superintendent Designate was announced , and sent in the patent which lie had received from H . R . H . the Prince of Wales .
A deputation of Provincial Grand Officers and Past Principals then introduced the Grand Superintendent Designate in clue form , and placed him in front of the pedestal . Tho anthem , " Behold how good and joyful , " having been sung
to the pianoforte accompaniment of Comp . Ellis , Comp . Lisle read the patent . The Installing Officer , addressing , Comp . Stanhope , said it gave him great pleasure to come to instal him as Prov . Grand Superintendent . He ( Comp . ^ st ^ sssssssssssstmiimism
Stanhope ) already possessed a distinguished Masonic record . He had been a Mason for a great many years , and had held the high position of Graud Chaplain of England , and a corresponding office in the Royal Arch degree . His
