THE annual installation meeting of this old and popular Lodge was held at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet-street , on Monday evening , the 3 rd inst ., when there was a goodly muster of the brethren , and some excellent working was witnessed . The ceremony of installing Bro . Richard Barham into the chair of K . S . was admirably performed by the Immediate Past Master , Bro . Robert John Taylor , assisted by his

Officers , and the proceedings were throughout of a most interesting and enjoyable description . At the conclusion of business Brother Clemow catered for the party in his usually excellent style , which elicited from the brethren expressions of approbation and thanks so frequently heard nt the mystic gatherings held in this old established and well-managed hotel .

ROTHESAY LODGE , No . 1687 .

THE annual installation meeting of this Lodge was held on Wednesday , at the Inns of Court Hotel , Lincoln ' s-inn-fields , on which occasion Bro . James Crossland was installed as W . M . The meeting was well attended , both by members of the Lodge and Visitors . Among the latter being Bros . C . A . Cottebrune P . G . P ., G . P . Festa S . W . 1900 . E . Farwig P . M . 180 , J . E . The business before the Lodge consisted of the election of Bro . Anstin , who offered himself as a candidate for joining , and the installation of W . M . A Lodge of emergency had been held the previous week , for the purpose of initiating and advanoing the several candidates

eligible . The Lodge was formally opened with the regular formalities by Bro . J . B . Docker W . M ., who was supported by Bro . James Crossland S . W ,, E . Dnret J . W ., Louis Beck P . M . Treasurer , W . C . Parsons P . M . Secretary , E . W . Livermore S . D ., F . Green J . D ., E . Valeriani I . G ., J . Borrow Organist , B . Swallow P . M . Steward . Lodge having been advanced , Bro . Crossland was presented , obligated and duly in .

stalled into the chaw by Bro . Docker , who performed the ceremony in a manner reflecting the greatest credit on his ability , for , notwithstanding the fact of his being a foreigner , he went through the ritual far better than do the majority of English-born Masters . The newly-installed Master having been saluted , invested the following as the Officers of the year : —Bros . Durpt S . W ., Livermore J . W ., Beck

Treasurer , Parsons Secretary , Green S . D ., Valeriani J . D ., Green jun . I . G ., Swallow Steward . Lodge was then closed , and the brethren proceeded to banquet where , under the presidency of the W . M ., a very enjoyable evening was spent . At the conclusion of the banquet grace was said , and then the Worshipful Master proposed the toast of the Queen , referring to the kindly sympathv displayed by

Her Majesty towards the widow of the late Brother President Garfield , which had created a most favourable impression in the minds of the American people , and which would , he thought , tend to materially increase the good feeling between the two countries . The toast of the Most Worshipful the Grand Master His Royal Highness the Duke of Rothesay was , the W . M . said , one intimately associated with their

Lodge , as the members of it were greatly indebted to His Royal Highness for having sanctioned the use of his title and arms in connection with it . The next toast was that of the Grand Officers , to whom the W . M . considered English Freemasonry owed much of its Buccess j he looked upon it that the prosperity of any institution materially depended on the skill and ability of those placed at the

head of affairs , and snch being the case , it was only necessary to look at the present condition of Masonry to form a good opinion of the Grand Officers . He referred with pleasuie to the presence of one distinguished member of Grand Lodge among them—Bro . Cottebrune had many years since won for himself the position of G . Pursuivant , and ever since that time had acted in the Craft in a manner which

clearly showed his was not an undeserved compliment . Brother Cottebrune replied , thanking the Master and brethren for the recep . tion accorded him . He was pleased to have seen the W . M . placed in the chair of the Lodge , for as he had , many years since , initiated him into Freemasonry , be considered he had that night witnessed the completion of the work he had so long ago commenced . He felt that

no Past Master could witness the installation of one of his own . initiates without feeling some amount of pride and satisfaction . Bro . Docker now assumed the gavel . He had great pleasure in proposing the health of the Master . He felt there was no need to remind the members of the Lodge that Bro . Crossland , as one of the founders of the Lodge , had contributed greatly to its present successful condition .

He had entered as J . D ., and had filled the several offices upwards , until he had now attained the summit of a Mason ' s ambition . He was satisfied , from past experience of what Bro . Crossland had done , that he would be an effieient ruler of the Lodge , and concluded by expressing the pleasure ho felt in having that night installed him . The W . M . tendered his hearty thanks for the way in which the toast

had been offered and received . He was gratified to hear that his efforts in the minor offices which he had filled had met with approval , and trusted that the brethren would never regret the further confidence reposed in him . He then proposed thejhealth of the I . P . M ., J . B . Docker , paying that brother a well deserved compliment regarding his working during the past year . He had also the pleasure of

presenting , for his acceptance , a Past Master s jewel , as some small recognition by the brethren of the way in which the duties of the chaii had been carried out , and in placing it on the breast of Bro . Docker he might say he felt there were few men in this world who deserved more fully all the honours it was possible for the Lodge to bestow on him . Bro . Docker tendered his thanks . He should value tho jewel just presented him as long as he lived . It would ever be his desire

to advance the interests of the Rothesay Lodge . The jewel , which was of gold , bore the following inscription on its back : — Presented to BRO . JEAN BAPTISTE DOCKER P . M . By the Brethren of the Rothesay Lodge , No . 1687 , As a mark of esteem , and for his valuable services as Founder and Fonrth Master .

1881 . The W . M . next proposed the health of the two brethren who had been initiated at the emergencv meeting already referred to , and each re . plied in suitable terms . The toast of the Visitors followed . The W . M . had yet to learn that the Rothesay Lodge could be considered second to any other in its reception of visitors . The members were pleased to see' all who had that night honoured them by attend .

ing , and he trusted that the guests had enjoyed the fare provided by the Lodge . Bro . Shand was the first to reply . He was very pleased to see the Rothesay Lodge in so flourishing a condition . Bro . Festa followed . He regretted . the absence through illness of Bro . Dean , the W . M . of the Montague Guest Lodge , as he felt some acknowledgment was due to the Rothesav Lodge for the

part they bad taken in securing the warrant for that Lodge . As S . W . of it , he desired to express the thanks of its members , and trusted that the two Lodges would continue the good feeling which now existed between them . Bros . Foss , Farwig , Ellis , Scott , and others also spoke to the toast . The W . M . coupled the health of the Past Masters with that of the Treasurer and Secretary . He regretted

there were not more of the Past Masters of the Lodge present . He thought there must be some fatality conneoted with their meetings which prevented the attendance of the Past Masters . As regarded the Treasurer , he considered Bro . Beck was in every way qualified for the office , and was pleaspd he had the opportunity of reinvesting him for the coming year . The brethren all knew how Bro . Parsons

had worked for them in the past , and if his attentions latterly had been in a somewhat different quarter , he could on ' y say it was but natural it should be so . He felt snre that while the brethren one and all sympathised with Bro . Parsons , they were united in the bpst of wishes for his future hnppiness and good health . He hoped he would long continue to act as their Secretary , and give the Lodge

the benefit of his experience . Bros . Beck and Parsons having replied , the W . M . proposed the health of the Officers , which was duly honoured and responded to , after which the Tyler brought the meeting to a conclusion . Some excellent songs were sung during the evening , those given by Miss Kate Beck and Mr . Coote being particularly good .

KINGSLAND LODGE , No . 1693 .

THE members of this Lodge held their annnal meeting on Tues . day , at the Jolly Farmers , Southga ' e-road , Islington , N . The Lodge was opened by Bro . James H . Hawkins the W . M ., and the following Officers were present during the meeting , viz ., Bros . A . W . Fenner S . W ., H . Hall J . W ., C- K . Killick P . M . Secretary , H . P . Isaac P . M ., H . Trewinnard P . M .. C K . Killick jun . P . M ., , T . Crosbie S . D ., N . E . Weston J . D ., N . Opperman DC , J . W . Roberts Organist , J . Thompson I . G ., W . Gnrsnn Steward , J . L . Mather P . P . G . D . of C .

Herts , and E . Bowyer P . P . G . S . W . Herts , Hon . members . There was also a large attendance of lay members , and several visitors . The business as set down on the agenda paper was exceptionally heavy , there being candidates for each of the three degrees , and great credit is dne to the W . M . for the ability he displayed in the several parts of the ritual he was called upon to conduct . The Lodge having been

opened and minutes confirmed , the report of the Auditors was presented and received , after which Lodge was advanced , and Bro . Thos . Casely having been entrusted , he was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason . Bro . C . J . Brampton was afterwards passed and then , after a favourable ballot , Mr . Carl Heinrick Meyer was initiated . Bro . A . W . Fenner the W . M . elect was then presented ,

obligated , and a Board of Installed Masters having been formed , he was installed into the chair of the Lodge , his predecessor , Bro . Hawkins , performing the work , as he had the three degrees , in a very satisfactory manner , fully deserving the encomiums passed on his working later in the evening . The following brethren were appointed by the W . M . as the Officers for the ensuing year , viz .: —Bros . Hall S . W .,

W . the Grand Master , and the Grand Officers were in turn honoured , and were followed by that of the W . M ., which was proposed by Bro . Hawkins I . P . M . He had great pleasure in proposing it . He might safely say that it was the one perhaps better received in the Kingsland Lodge than any other
