Johns was elected to represent tho Lodge on the Committee of Petitions .

Tho Lodge having been closed , the brethren adjourned to the Farley Hotel , where the banquet was provided by Bro . C . Walters , who , with the hostess , was subsequently thanked for their admirable catering . Lord Ebrington presided , and proposed tho Loyal toasts . His lordship ' s health having been drnnk , Lord Ebrington , in reply , heartily thanked tho brethren for their reception , and was glad that his first

important Masonic ceremony had been in tho Threo Towns—tho Motropolis of tho West . In proposing tho toast of W . Bro . Lose , and speaking of tho pleasnro it was to him to assist in founding a Lodge where it was wanted ( but only there ) , he said he felt proud of the Lodge being called "Ebrington . " He prayed that he might always bo found worthy of Freemasonry , and the Lodgo might bo always

worthy of him . Bro . Lose , in responding , said it had been his endeavour through life to make a friend whenever ho could , and always to avoid making an enemy . He felt pride in being the first Mastor , and would endeavour to show that the brethren who would be introduced into this Lodge would show , not only to the Craft , but to the world at large , that Freemasonry was something more than

a name . W . Bro . Isaac Latimer proposed tho health of tho R . W . Bro . tho Earl of Mount Edgcumbo Prov . G . M . of Cornwall , who was prevented from attending by an important pre-egagement , and of Bro . Col . Peard D . P . G . M ., who was provented being present from illness . COMMITTEE MEETING OF THE BOYS' SCHOOL .

THE General Committee of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys met on Saturday last , in tho Board-room , Freemasons ' Hall . There were present—Bros . W . Roebuck ( in the chair ) , W . F . C . Moutrie , S . Rosenthal , W . Paas , George J . Row , Henry W . Hunt , J . G . Chancellor , Thomas Cnbitt , Donald M . Dewar , William Mann , C . F . Matier , John Constable , W . H . Perryman , Charles Birch , A . Durrant , H . Massey , R . Warner Wheeler , Arthnr E .

Gladwell , Frederick Adlard , Charles F . Hogard , H . G . Buss , and F . Binckes ( tho Secretary ) . Eleven petitions wero considered , and the candidates placed on tho list for the April election . Outfits of £ 5 each were granted to threo boys who since leaving the School had obtained situations , and tho list of candidates for the April election was fixed at 81 , if three of the candidates comply with certain requirements . Tho number to bo elected in April wa 3 settled at 20 .

Our friends in the East End of London are proverbial for their support of the Charities , and generally for tbeirjenthusiaam in all affairs connected with the Craft . This naturally takes them from home very frequently , and the question " how to get back" is often a grave consideration . However , the comfort of a private carriage can be secured at a trifling expense . To those who contemplate adopting this method , wo adviso a visit to Bros . Rochester and Fox , 799 Commercial-road .

We have received a copy of tho latest issue of Messrs . Dick Eadclyflb and Co . 's Seed Catalogue , and have great pleasure in bearing testimony to the evident caro which ha 3 been taken in its compilation . This firm has now seenred a wide reputation , and wo feel assured that any orders with which it may bo entrusted will meet immediate attention , whilo tho goods will givo satisfaction .

Master ' s jewel was presented to tho retiring W . M ., Bro . Samuel Crowther , for his services during tho past year . Bro . Crowther announced his intention to serve as Steward at the ensuing Festival of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys . The W . M . ( Bro . Mills ) also intimated his intention to serve as Steward at the ensuing Festival of tho Royal Masonic Institution for Girls . All business being concluded , the Lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to tho banquet room .

INSTALLATION AND FESTIVAL OF THE LODGE OF LIGHTS , No . 148 , WAEEINGTON .

THE following is extracted from " Memoirs of the Life of Elia 3 Ashmole , drawn by Himself . " " October 16 th , 1646 . I was made a Freemason at Warrington in Lancashire , with Colonel Mainwaring of Karincham , in Cheshire ; the names of those who were then at the Lodge , Mr . Richard Penketh Warden , Mr . James Collier , Mr . Richard Saukey , Henry Littler , John Ellam , Richard Ellam and Hugh Brewer . " We need scarcely add that Eliaa Ashmole was the author

of the well-known " History of the Order of tho Garter , " and founder of tho Ashmolean Museum at Oxford . It is a matter for great regret that the ancient records of this Lodge are lost , and that tho history of Freemasonry in Warrington cannot now be connectively traced further back than 8 th November 1765 . From time immemorial the installation and festival of this old and flourishing Lodgo has been

held on the laat Monday in each year , and no deviation to this rnlo was mado on the last occasion . The Lodge was summoned for threo o ' clock in the afternoon , and punctually at that hour the W . Hindley , tho W . M . elect , for the benefit of installation .

Thi 3 being attended to , and tho W . M . elect having pledged himself to submit and obey , the Lodge was opened in the third degree . All brethron below the degree of W . M . now retired , except tho W . M . elect , who was entrusted before retirement . A Board of Installed Masters waa now opened in ample form , tho W . and S . being presided over by Bros . Armstrong and Finney . Tho W . M . elect now

applied for admission , which being granted , ho waa installed in duo form , according to ancient custom , and received tho congratulations usnal in tbia high degree . As a proof of his desire to maintain tho ancient landmarks of tho Order , tho W . M . then invited tho W . brethren to apply the usual " cement . " Labonr resumed , tho Board wa 3 closed in the " name and fear " and tho brethren in tho several

degrees re-admitted , and tho W . M . proclaimed , greeted and sainted . The W . M . thon appointed and invested his Officers for the ensuing year , as follows : —Bros . J . Rymer Young I . P . THE following is extracted from " Memoirs of the Life of Elia 3 Ashmole , drawn by Himself . " " October 16 th , 1646 . of the well-known " History of the Order of tho Garter , " and founder of tho Ashmolean Museum at Oxford . It is a matter for great regret that the ancient records of this Lodge are lost , and that tho history of Freemasonry in Warrington cannot now be connectively traced further back than 8 th November 1765 . From time immemorial the installation and festival of this old and flourishing Lodgo has been

held on the laat Monday in each year , and no deviation to this rnlo was mado on the last occasion . The Lodge was summoned for threo o ' clock in the afternoon , and punctually at that hour the W . Hindley , tho W . M . elect , for the benefit of installation .

Thi 3 being attended to , and tho W . M . elect having pledged himself to submit and obey , the Lodge was opened in the third degree . All brethron below the degree of W . M . now retired , except tho W . M . elect , who was entrusted before retirement . A Board of Installed Masters waa now opened in ample form , tho W . and S . being presided over by Bros . Armstrong and Finney . Tho W . M . elect now

applied for admission , which being granted , ho waa installed in duo form , according to ancient custom , and received tho congratulations usnal in tbia high degree . As a proof of his desire to maintain tho ancient landmarks of tho Order , tho W . M . then invited tho W . brethren to apply the usual " cement . " Labonr resumed , tho Board wa 3 closed in the " name and fear " and tho brethren in tho several

degrees re-admitted , and tho W . M . proclaimed , greeted and sainted . The W . M . thon appointed and invested his Officers for the ensuing year , as follows : —Bros . J . Rymer Young I . P .
