Alexander , in returning thanks for tho President , Vice-Presidents aud Committee , said they wero all thankful for tho hearty rospanso that had boon given to tho toast . Bro . Alexander thon gavo a long account of tho history of tho Benovolont Fnnd , which ho stated was
established by tho lato Bro . Dr . Constatt , in 1819 . Year by year tho amount in hand had increased , but during tho last twolvo months thoy had been called on to disburse largo sums . During the last s ' ' x months they had givon £ 292 2 s 6 d ; in tho six months ending Jnno thoy gavo £ 160 ; that wns a largo amount from a single Lodgo . Tho Worshipful Master had mado an appeal to them ;
Bro . P . M . L . Lazarns had , by his exertions , collected tho sum of £ 17 17 s . Theirs was essentially a local fund ; thoy never accepted anything from visiting brethren . Tho Secretary then announced that tho W . M . had givon £ 5 5 s , tho S . W . £ 2 2 s , the J . W . 2 ls , Bro . E . P . Albert 10 s , and several other brethren had likewise subscribed . Tho J . W . then annonnced that he had a son five days
old ; ho would givo in his name 10 s 6 d . Bro . James also tendered 21 s . Bro . L . Aloxander P . M . said ho wonld now take tho gavel , and direct their attention to tho toast ho was about to propose , which they wero aware was the health of tho W . M . He was sure the brethren did not require him to

In replying , Bro . Jackson adverted to tho largo increase in the number of Masons , but he thought so many new Lodges wero not necessary . Thero was plenty of room for good
men in tho existing Lodges . Bro . Curteis , in proposing the Charity toast , referred to the fact that ho had had the pleasure of taking from tho Lodge and tho neighbourhood largo sums for the great Charities . Ho took the opportunity of mentioning that the Lodgo had not yet , aa a Lodge , subscribed to the local Charity—the Devon Masonio
