Israel Abrahams and supported by tho Lodgo generally , and the Secretary waa directed to forward the letter aa soon as possible .

The chair was then vacated by Bro . Gr . rdiior in favour of Bro . Lewis Lazarus , who forthwith proceeded to instal hia son , tho ceremony boing most impressively rendorod . Bro . being closed , the brethron adjourned to tho large hall , whero the banquet was corved . At tho termination of tho repast the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts wcro dnly honoured , Bro . Sadler G . T . r 6 epondit ) rj for tho Grand Officers . Bro . Gardner I . P . M . then proposed the health of the now Master , and said the brethren would soon find out what kind of a Master they had elected , aa there waa

plenty of work before him ; but judging of his capacity during the past year , ho bad found him careful , painstaking , and always ready at hia duty . Ho therefore hoped that the Lodge would find him capable of good work , and heartily wished him health and prosperity during hia yenr of office . The W . M . replied with becoming modesty , and paid ho would do his host to show the brethren they had made

no mistake in placing him in the ohair . Bro . Lazarus P . M ., in submitting tho toast of the I . P . M ., eaid that it waa somewhat irregular , though not wrong , for him to usurp the Master ' a privilege , but the Master had kindly consented to hia doing so . Bro . Gardner had been a momber of the Lodge for some years , and had worked his way atop by step until he reached the chair whioh he had filled

to the satisfaction of tho entire Lodge . He had been moat fortunate in having a good staff of Officers , and had altogether had an enjoyable reign . The W . M . then presented Bro . Gardner with the Past Master ' s jewel of the Lodge , which was inscribed with tho following words : — " Presented to Bro . W . J . Gardner , by the Lodge of Joppa , No . 188 , aa a mark for esteem of hia services as W . M .

during the year 1890 . " Bro . Gardner , m returning thanks , aaid that Bro . Lazarus had painted his portrait iu glowing colours and he wished ho could flatter himself he was worthy of it . During his year of office he had only one wish , viz ., to do justice to tho Lodge and give tatisfaotion to the brethren ; he had endeavoured to perform his duty strictly and hononrably . He thanked hia lato Officers for

their aesiatanee , and promised to help the W . M . and Lodgo generally to the best of his ability . Bro . Israel Abrahams , as tho oldest Vice-President of the Lodge Benevolent Fund , responded to that toaat ; he stated thoy had now a balance of £ 768 , which would be devoted to the benefit of members . Lodge , in responding for " The "Visitors , " gave some excellent advice to the W . M . Bros . Emanuol , H . Massey and Rooke , also replied . Bros .
