MASONIC BALL AT NORTHAMPTON .
NORTHAMPTON and diatriot brethren celebrated the festive seaaon by a ball , on a somewhat exceptional scale , whioh took place at the New Masonic Hall and Club , Princess-street , on Monday . It was held under the auspices of the Pomfret Lodge , No . 360 , the Eleanor Cross Lodge , No . 1764 , the Dalapre Lodge , No . 1911 , the Rt . Hon . the Earl of Euaton , D . L ., R . W . Provincial Grand Master of Northonts and Hunts , W . Bro . Butler Wilkin 3 P . G . S . B . Eng . D . P . G . M .,
and waa in every way a complete success . Dispensations were granted by the Authoritiea of tho Craft , Royal Arch , Mark , Royal Ark Mariners , Roae Croix , Knighta of the Temple , and other Masonio bodiea to wear the clothing of their repectivo degrees , and tbe Officers of the Army , Navy , and Reserve Forces wero requested to appear in uniform . The arrangements were carried out by a Committee , and
were all that could be deaired : —Bros . T . P . Dorman , H . W . K . Mark , ham , C . E . Thorpe , H . Manfield , G . Ellard , R . Croft , G . Butcher , A . F . Mulliner , E . Fletcher , A . Jonea , W . H . Peirce , and T . Emery . Bro . W . H . Smith undertook the somewhat artluous duties of Hon . Secretary , and did hia utmost to promote the comfort and pleasure of the guests . The dancing took place in the large Lodge Room , and the
company numbered 100 . The robing-room was utilised as a retiringroom , and was most suitably decorated for the occasion . The large landing leading to the robing-room waa also used for a similar purpose , and was fitted out with lounges , couches , chairs , & o . The open space from the grand staircase was prettily draped with muslin our . tains , relieved by light blue drapery ; and the ante-rooms were also
requisitioned for the use of the guests . Tho programme contained 21 selections of the newest dance music , and the band was under the able direction of Mr . Louis Warner . Sapper waa set out in excellent style in the grand hall , and was supplied by Bro . W . F . Tipler . Tbo tables were decorated with great taste , and the vianda were of a recherche character . Dancing commenced at eight o ' olook , and was continued
until between two and three in the morning . Bro . A . F . Mulliner 1764 efficiently acted as Master of the Ceremonies , and the following as Stewards : Bros . E . B . Fletcher W . M . Eloct 360 , C . E . Thorpe J . D . 360 , W . H . Peirce 3 G 0 , T . P . Dormau W . M . 1764 , H . Manfield Treasurer 1764 , H . W . K . Markham See . 1911 , and W . H . Smith Hon . Sec . 1764 . The Mayor ( Mr . G . Norman ) , the Mayoress , and the Ex-Mayor ( Mr . \ V . Mills ) were among the guests .
A grand Masonic ball will be held in the Assembly Rooms , Westgate Road , Newcastle-on-Tyne , under the banners of Walker , No . 1342 , St . Nicholas , No . 1676 , and St . Peters , No . 481 , Lodges , on Wednesday , 28 th inst .
Pormission has been obtained to wear Masonic jewels on this occasion . The ball is being promoted by an influential Committee , and the Hon . Secretary ia Bro . 3 ? . W . Sykes P . Grand Steward , the Sanatorium , Newcastle-on-Tyne . Mr . Amers's band will supply the music for the occasion .
The North London Masonic Beuovolent Ball , under tho patronage of Messrs . Bartley , Cowley Lambert , Richard Chamberlain , Sir A . K . Rollit , and Captain Pen ton , M . P . ' s , will take place at the Freemasons' Tavern , in January . The members of tho Keusington Lodge , No . 1767 , propose to hold a ball at the Lidbroke Hall , ou the 30 th inst .

Valian offered himself as a candidate to be passed , and answered the necessary questions . Lodge waa opened in the second degree , and the Worahipf al Maater rehearsed the ceremony . Lodge was resumed ,
and Bro . Harnell was elected W . M . for the 15 th inat . Tho ceremony of installation will be rehearsed by the W . M . and tbo W . M . elect of the Mother Lodge on the 8 th . The W . M . elect appointed his Officers in rotation . On rising for the third time Bro . G . Reynolds proposed that the aunual New Year ' s Gifts , of £ 1 13 to Bro . Weeka and 5 a to
Bro . Tooley , the aerving brother , be voted from the fnnd 8 of the Lodge of Instruction . Thia waa seconded and carried unanimousl y . Bro . Weeks thanked the brethren . Bro . Smith , the past Preceptor , received the hearty congratulations of the brethren on the improved state of hia health ; all hoped to see him amongat them more frequentl y . A SPECIAL meeting was held in St . John ' s Hall , 213 Buchanan Street , on the 23 rd ult . Bro . John Graham Provincial Grand Master presided , and was supported by a largo attendance of brethren , including Bros . Colin Galletly P . G . J . W ., Wm . Phillips Acting P . G . S . W ., Geo . C . H . M'Naught P . G . Secretary ,
J . M'Naught Campbell P . G . J . W ., and others . Tho Provincial Grand Master explained that tho purpose o £ tho special meeting was to hear a report from tho committee appointed at last meeting on a petition lodged by cortaiu brethren of Lodge St . Vincent , 553 , complaining of
irregularities iu that Lodge . The Provincial Grand Secretary read the petition , and another from the R . W . M . and I . P . M . of 553 , in defence of the chargeB contained in the first ; also an appeal from members whose vote tho first petition sought to nullify . Tho P . G . S . further reported that tho
committee recommended that the members who were alleged to have joined for the pnrpose of taking part in tbe election should be denied a vote at the election of officebearers for 1891 . Bro . Kennedy R . W . M . 553 moved , and Bro . Thomas )? . Hunter P . M . 128 seconded , that thoro
commendation made by the committee be not adopted , as the finding had been come to without regard to Grand Lodge law . Bro . Kelso Hunter moved , as an amendment seconded by Bro . Phillips , that the report be adopted . Considerable discussion followed , in which Bros . Denholm
and Thom , interested parties , though not members of Prov . Grand Lodge , were permitted to take part . On the motion and the amendment being put to the meeting it was decided by an almost unanimous vote to adopt tho recommendation of the committee . Bro . Kennedy
protested , and intimated an appeal to Grand Lodge . It was in these circumstances resolved that at the meeting of the St . Vincent Lodge , to be held to-night , tho office-bearers
be elected , but not installed , pending the issue of tho appeal . A committee was appointed to attend a meeting of 553 , and see the decision of tbe P . G . Lodgo carriod out . Bro . Kennedy continues in the office 0 ? R . W . M .
