Samuel E . Creed and Mr . Henry Mark Kingston , thosw gentlemen were dnly initiated into Fraomasonry , nil the ceremonies being impressively conducted hy the W . M . Bro . Alfred IT . Coopci

snggested that a Charity Box ( which lie offered to present to the Lodge ) should in future be passed round at tbe banquet table , in order to increase the funds of the Lodg 9 for charitable pnrpowp . The W . M . explained that there was already in pxi ^ tenona Benevolent fund in connection with the Lodge , which wa 3 iu a fhuriehiug condition , there being a balance at present on hand of over £ 100 . The merits of the suggestion were duly discussed , and it was decided thnt

as the Lodge was already supplied with funds for benevolent purposes the charity box was not required . Bro . Cooper statad his intention of bringing the matter forward at a subsequent meeting . The application of two distressed brothers for relief were recomnionded , and signed by the W . M . in the name of tho Lodge . The business of the evening having thus terminated , the eouipauj adjourned to the baneiueting room , where a most enjoyable evening was spent .

James William Abbott P . M . P . P . G . D . C , by the brethren , na a token of their esteem and regard for tho many great services rendered by him . Bro . Abbott entered Masonry in the Egerton Lodgo 19 years ago , and haa never since been absent from its meetings , and for tho last 11

years haa acted aa D . C . of the Lodge , and devoted much time and labour in ctinnectiou with the duties appartaining thereto . The R . W . Prov . Grand Master ( Col . Starkie ) appointed him successively to the offices of G . A . D . C . G . D . D . C . and G . D . C . in his Province , and Bro . Abbott performed those several duties with great credit to himself and satisfaction to tho R . W . P . G . M . and tho brethren , tho former

personally thanking Bro . Abbott for the attention he had given to his duties , and the able manner in which he had performed them . Tho presentation was made to Bro . Abbott by Joseph MoKim W . M ., who ably spoke of the services rendored by Bro . Abbott to the Lodge , and of the respect and esteem he was held in by all tho brethren . He said that as this waa Bro . Abbott ' a jubilee , thoy were anxioua to

mark it by giving somo tangible proofa t ) f how they appreciated his worth . Thoy sincerely hoped that he might lon <» live to remain n member of tho Egerton Lodge . Bro . Abbott replied that the presentation had come upon him aa a great surprise , aa he waa quite unaware that anything of the kind waa to take ploce , but ho none the less appreciated the truly Masonic way iu which his brethren had

thought fit to mark their approval of tho services he had tried to rondor to hia raothor Lodge , and he hoped that he might be long spared to do what he could for tho benefit and welfare of tho Lodge . He assured the brethren that tho address whioh had been presented to him would ever be highly prized by him , and ho felt snre that tho members of his family would feel proud when they read it to think
