Tiller for hie highly appreciated services to the Lodge during the past year , and there being no farther business the Lodge was closed . The Festival

of St . John was subsequently celebrated , and the spacious hall , when the brethren were seated at the table , presented a brilliantly illuminated appearance . After the banquet , the toast list waa proceeded with , that of the Queen taking , aa usual , precedence , Bro . Thomas and others singing the National Anthem , and also " God Bless the Prince of Wales . " The health of H . R . H . the

Princess of Wales waa duly honoured . Eaoh solo was sung by Bro . Thomas with fine effect and in his best style . The health of tho R . W . D . G . M . tho Rt . Hon . the Earl of Lathom , and the rest of the Grand Officera present and past , waa proposed by the W . M ., and heartily drank , after which Bro . R . R . Lisenden reoited " 'Arry Interviewed . " Bro . Wm . Goodaore , Past Grand Sword Bearer of

Englnnd , in thanking the W . M . for proposing the toast , and coupling his ( Bro . Goodacro ' s ) namo with it , said it had given him great pleasure to be present that day , and to witness the admirable manner in which the ceremony of installation had been carried out . The Architect Lodge , though small , and aituate in rather a remote corner of West Lancaahire , waa nevertheless an important and strong one ,

because it did nob forget to practise when needed the groat cause of Freemasonry , viz ., charity . Aa most of the brethren were aware , their Rt . W . P . G . M . Bro . the Earl of Lathom had consented to take the chair at the Festival of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys next June , and he trusted this fact would never be lost sight of by every member of the Lodge , who he relied upon to do hia utmoat to

subscribe as much as possible towards that grand Institution in order that the sum when announced by hia Lordship might be a handsome one , and do credit to them as West Lancashire Masons and to their Provincial Grand Master . It waa confidently expected that something like £ 5000 would be subscribed throughout the Province , and it therefore behoved every Brother to put his shoulder to the wheel for

that result , and he congratulated Bro . Tiller in carrying his proposition that tho sum of 20 guineas be given to the Boys' Institution . In response to the toast of the Rt . W . Deputy Grand Master the Earl of Crawford aud Balcarrea , and the reBt of the Provincial Grand Officers present and past , Broa . J . Laidlaw P . M . P . P . G . S . D . and S . Hargreaves P . G . S . replied . At this stage Bros . C . H . Beever J . W .

gave a clever performance on the Fairy Bella , which was loudly applauded . In rising to propose the toast of the evening—viz ., th ' j health of the Worshipful Master—Bro . John J . Tiller I . P . M . waa received with cheers , and after expressing the pleasure it gave him to propose the toast , aaid he felt convinced that no worthier man than Brother Nail was ever inatalled W . M . of a Lodge . Hia geniality and

kind disposition was well known and appreciated by all who had tho pleasure of his acquaintance , and he ( Bro . Tiller ) had not the slighteso doubt that their W . M . would perform hia dutioa in a highly creditable manner during his year of office . The brethren would have noticed daring the latter portion of the day's buainoss how eaaily Bro . Nail had fallen into the dutiea of hia

high and important office , and this he considered wa 3 a happy augury of the future . In wishing him a prosperous year of office , Bro . Tiller called upon the brethren to rise and drink the health of their new W . M . A perfect burst of enthusiasm followed this invita . tion from Bro . Tiller , whioh having subsided , Bro . Martin Thomas sang " Hore ' s to his health in a song , " in a masterly manner . Tho Worahipfal Master on rising to reply waa loudly cheered . After

health of the Installing Master Bro . John J . Tiller , congratulating him upon the very able manner in whioh he had performed the ceremony , and for the many good members ho had introduced during the past year . Bro . W . T . Hesketh P . M . here played a fantasia on Scotch airs , on tho violin , in a moat artistio manner , after whioh Bro . Tiller replied , iu appropriate terms . The Viaitora' toast

waa proposed , and reaponded to by Bros . Martin Thomas , J . Southam and S . Looko , after whioh Bro . G . R . Ward gave a performance on the bones . Bro . Fryer S . W . proposed the P . M . 's , and Bro . T . Hesketh replied on their behalf , after which the W . M . parodied the well-known song fromH . M . S . "Pinafore , "" The Queen ' sNavee , " with

a construction of his own , in whioh the peculiarities of certa \ u members of the Lodge were set forth , and caused roara of laughter . Tho Masonio Charities waa next proposed , after whioh Bro . R . R . Lisenden reoited "Kissing Cup's Race . " The Tyler ' B toast brought a most enjoyable evening to a close .

SOUTHGATE LODGE , No . 1950

THE members held their first meeting of the session at the Railway Hotel , New Southgate , on New Year ' s Day , presided over by the W . M . Brother Samuel Stretch jun . After preliminaries , Bro . Emery was raised to the sublime degree of M . M ., and subsequently Mr . Fenton Folkes was initiated into the Order . ThiB being eleotion day , Bro . Phipos S . W . was elected W . M . for the

ensuing year , while Bro . Lefeber , by the unanimous vote of the brethren , retains his post as Treasurer . The Lodge voted the sum of ten guineas , to be placed on the W . M . ' s list as Steward for the Old Peonle at the forthcoming Festival . Business oonolnded , the

brethren adjourned to a sumptuous banquet , provided by Bro . Folkea , the new proprietor of the hotel . Tho n 8 ual Loyal and Maaonio toaats were duly honoured , interspersed by musio and aong , and tho brethren , taking advantage of the season , heartily wished eaoh other a happy New Year .

Twenty-four candidates for initiation and 19 joining members were unanimously approved , and the following live candidates , viz .: Messrs . James Drysdale ( all Lewises ) , were initiated into Freemasonry in the most perfect and highly impressive manner , reflecting the greatest credit on nil engagod . The charge was delivered by the W . M ., with thrilling effect . Ten guineas were voted to the Boys' School Pension Indemnity Fund . Many fresh propositions for initiation and joining were received . The brethren then adjourned to the banqueting ball ,

whore Bro . Major Gordon provided an excellent repast . The usual loyal and complimentary toa 3 ta were duly and cordially honoured The Worshipful Master eloquently and gracefully proposed the toast of tbe Iuitiates , all of whom suitably responded , proving they were worthy sons of worthy Masons . The toast of the VisitorB elicited

very cordial and complimentary replies from Bros . J . H . Wildash , James Bishop , Eli Wilson , Sidney Napper , Walter Banks , Arthur Church , and W . Bradbear . Bros . F . THE members held their first meeting of the session at the Railway Hotel , New Southgate , on New Year ' s Day , presided over by the W . M . Brother Samuel Stretch jun . After preliminaries , Bro . Emery was raised to the sublime degree of M . M ., and subsequently Mr . Fenton Folkes was initiated into the Order . ThiB being eleotion day , Bro . Phipos S . W . was elected W . M . for the

ensuing year , while Bro . Lefeber , by the unanimous vote of the brethren , retains his post as Treasurer . The Lodge voted the sum of ten guineas , to be placed on the W . M . ' s list as Steward for the Old Peonle at the forthcoming Festival . Business oonolnded , the
