ON Wednesday , the 1 st instant , there was an unusually large gathering of the brethren of " the mystic tie " at the St . John ' s Lodge , No . 279 , held at the Leicester Masonio Hall , drawn together largely out of respect to Bro . J . Farndale I . P . M ., and to congratulate him upon his appointment to the office of Chief Constable of Birming . him . Bro . Orlando Law , the newly installed Worshipful Master , occupied the chair , supported on the dais by Bros . Toller Deputy
Prov . Grand Master , S . S . Partridge ( Past Prov . S . G . W . ) Prov . Grand Secretary , Clement Strefcton , J . M . M'Allister , and S . Cleaver , Past Masters . After the disposal of the ordinary business , the Worshipful Master , in a very complimentary speech , presented to Bro . Farndale , in the name of the Lodge , a very handsome Past Master ' s -jewel , as a mark of the great esteem in which he was held by the brethren ,
and of appreciation of the very satisfactory manner in whioh he had discharged the duties of W . M . daring the past year . Bro . Law took occasion to congratulate Bro . Farndale , both on his own behalf and on behalf of the brethren generally , upon his appointment to the office of Chief Constable at Birmingham , and to wish him every possible happiness and success in his new sphere of labour .
