Brother Loveland Lovoland said there -was another matter to be brought before Grand Lodge . He had to ask the acceptance by Grand Lodge of a full-length painting of His Royal Highness the Grand Master , as a present from

the General Board . It was a veiy faithful likeness , and ho was sure Grand Lodge would accept it . The Mark Masons would always be pleased to see their Grand Master , if not present in person present on canvas .

Bro . the Earl of Euston said he thought that this Grand Lodge could not do otherwise than most heartily and thankfully accept the handsome present now offered to them from the General Board . The walls of Grand Lodge ¦ wanted covering aud there was no doubt about it that the

chief person in Mark Masonry at the present moment was his Royal Highness the Grand Master , and therefore his was the most fitting picture to begin with . It was not only a thoughtful and kind gift , but one which the Grand

Lodge wanted more than any other on its walls . He would propose that the thanks of Grand Lodge be presented to the General Board for the gift , and thafc ifc be accepted and placed on the walls .

Bro . Capt . Philips said he had much pleasure in seconding the motion . Bro . Sir John B . Monckton , put the motion , which was carried . Grand Lodge was then closed in duo form .

A REGULAR Communication of the District Grand Lodge of Northern China was hold at the Masonic Hall , Shanghai , on Saturday , 7 th January 1893 , when there were present the following members of fche District Grand Lodge : —

The circular convening the communication was read . On the proposition of Bro . C . Thorne , seconded by Bro . T . W . Kingsmill , it was unanimously carried that fche minutes of the last regular communication , having been printed and circulated , be , as is customary , taken as read and confirmed .

Bro . D . E . Sassoon President District Board of General Purposes , on being called on by the District Grand Master , read the proceedings of the District Board as follows : —

Minutes of a meeting of the Distiict Board of General Purposes , held afc the Masonic Ha'l , Shanghai , on Thursday , 22 nd December 1892 , at 5 p . m . Present-. —Bros . D . E . Secretary . The circular calling the meeting was read . The minutes of the last regular meeting of the Board , held on 8 th September last , were read , confirmed aud si & . ied . The District Grand Secretary reported that in onseqnence of sickness various members of the Board were unable- to attend . Tho District Grand Secretary read a letter from Rev . JJro . J . M .

W . Farnham , D . D ., District Grand Chaplain , asking thu Board to urge on the trustees of tho Hnll fche necessity for providing- an inereaat . 1 exit , from the building in the event of fu .-. After full discussion and on learning from the President of the Executive Committee that the subject was receiving their considera / on , the Board directed the Secretary to inform Rev . Bro . Farnham that fche subject waa receiving the best attention of tho Executive Committee .

The Secretary informed the Board thafc copies of the Masonic Annual for 1892 had been sent to all Grand , District Grand Lodgea and other correspondence Masonio bodies . Bro . Cope brought to the notice of the Board a misleading statement in the Masonic Annual respecting the Northern Lodge of China

being the Senior Lodge working in Shanghai , and gave notice thafc he would address fche District Grand Master on fche snbjecfc . Brother Moore , in conjunction with the President of the Board , was appointed to audit District Grand Ledge accounts for 1892 . Records of proceedings from various Masonic bodies were presented for perusal as follows : —

District Graud Ledge of Canterbury , N . Z . 21 st July 1882 . „ „ Queensland , „ 9 th August 1892 . „ „ Burma , „ 24 th Sept . 1892 . lb was decided that the next regular Communication of District Grand Lodge shall be held on Saturday , 7 th January 1893 , at

9 o'clock p . m ., and that all Master Masons be invited to attend . The order of business to bo brought before District Grand Lodge I was discussed , and the District Grand Secretary instructed fco issue

circulars in accordance with the views of the Board , and to advertise the Communication in the nsual manner . There being no further business fche meeting adjourned afc 6 * 30 p . m .

S . R . GALE D . G . Secretary . Bro . James H . Osborne District Grand Junior Warden proposed that the report as read bo received and entered on the minutes of District Grand Lodge ; this , on being seconded by Brother H . J . Sharp D . G . S . D . was carried

unammon » ly . Tho District Grand Master then said , —Brethren , I am sure that you all regret tho absence , in consequence of illness , of Bro . E . Bois District Grand Treasurer , and will

with me thank him for the duty ho has performed notwithstanding a long sickness . Brother Moore has undertaken to present the accounts , and I will ask him to proceed with fche statement .

Brother Moore stated that the year commenced with a credit balance of Taels 341 . 09 ; fche income from all sources amounted to Taels 466 . 53 ; the expenditure amounted to Taels 475 . 27 ; leaving a balance to go forward for 1893 of Taels 331 . 73 . It would be remembered that there were

several items of extraordinary expenditure during the past year , i . e ., Engrossing , Taels 37 . 50 ; Masonio Annuals , Taels 33 . 69 ; and grant to Royal Hibernian Institute , not likely

to appear in our accounts again , and which would perceptibly increase our credit balance . The accounts have been audited by the President of the District Board of Geueral Purposes and myself .

The District Grand Master said , —Brethren , you have heard tho statement of accounts as summarised by Brother Moore , as also his explanation of the extraordinary expenditure incurred during the past year , an outlay wo shall not be likely to incur again . I cannot Icfc the

opportunity pass without expressing my great satisfaction at outsound and flourishing position , and my thanks to the District Grand Treasurer for his care of our interests . I have pleasure in proposing that the accounts as presented be passed ; Bro . West seconded , and the proposition was unanimously adopted .

The next business was the election of a District Grand

Treasurer for 1893 , and Bro . Lanning having consented to gerve if elected , the ballot was then taken and Bro . Lanning was elected unanimously .

Bro . Lanning thanked the brethren for the honour done him ; he would give his best services to the office , and trusted that the work would be done to their and the satisfaction of the District Grand Master .

The District Grand Master , assisted by the Deputy District Grand Master , then proceeded to invest the District Grand Officers for the year 1893 , addressing suitable and complimentary marks to each as presented . He felt sure that one and all would give due attention to
