The Lodge was opened in due form , after which the W . M . initiated into the mysteries of Freemasonry Mr . Albert Smith Green , surgeon , North-street , Leeds , the

ceremony being performed with that impressiveness and accuracy which ia one of the characteriatioa of the working of this Lodge , Bro . Eddison then proposed that Bro . Youings be presented by the Lodge with a P . M . ' s jewel , to mark the admirable manner in whioh

he had discharged the dutiea appertaining to the chair of K . S . Thia waa seconded by Bro . Y . Smitb , supported by Bro . Winn P . M P . P . G . Supt . Wks ., and carried with acclamation . The scrolling for W . M . was then proceeded with , and was unanimously in favonr of Bro . W . H . Bradford S . W . Bro . Fourness P . M . waa re-elected

Treasurer , and S . Barrand Tyler . Bro . Jacques gave notice of a resolution increasing the initiation fees of this Lodge . It was stated that the P . G . M . Bro . T . W . Tew had signified his intention of investing Bro . Townsend P . M . P . G . Organist with the clothing and jewel which had been subscribed by the Leeds brethren , as a token

of their appreciation of services rendered on behalf of the Leeds Benevolent Institntion . Upwards of 50 brethren were present afc the snpper , and the evening was one of the happiest in the history of the Lodge , speech and song providing an enjoyable variety . It should be stated that Bro . Balfour , M . P ., was detained by his parliamentary dnties in London .

A- MEETING was held afc fche Fox and Hounds Hotel , Putney , on Wednesday , the 2 nd insfc . Bros . Collick W . M ., Williams S . W ., Strong J . W ., Watkins Treasurer , Robinson P . M . Secretary , Wing S . D ., Wright acting J . D ., Oliver Steward , Sandalls I . G ., Bowler Tyler ; Pardee I . P . M ., P . M . ' s Collings Dir . of Cers ., Page , Mansell , Whitley . Visitors—Bros . Maples 141 , Johnson Asaph ,

Bond Wolsey , Beard Temple , Stokes Alfred Lodge , and 19 other members of this Lodge . The Lodge was opened in due form , and tbe minutes of lasfc meeting were read and confirmed . Messrs . Munslow , Warlow and Moore were balloted for and initiated . Bros . Saville , Bosworth , Tildersley and Payers were passed . After the Bye-laws

had been read the brethren proceeded to ballot for a W . M . and Treasurer for the ensuing year . Bro . Williams having expressed a desire not to stand , Bro . Strong was unanimously elected to the chair of K . S . After Bro . Strong had suitably thanked the brethren , Bro . Watkina , who has been Treasnrer since the consecration of the

Lodge , waa unanimously re-elected . Bro . Walkley , the Tyler , was also re-elected . Bros . Bosworth , Cannon and Coombe were elected Auditors . Later on it was unanimously resolved that the sum of 25 guineas be voted to Bro . P . M . Whitley , for the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution ; also that the nsual P . M . ' s jewel be given to

tbe Worshipfnl Master . Five gentlemen were proposed for initiation , and after hearty good wishes the Lodge was closed according to ancient custom . At 8 p . m . the brethren sat down to an excellent repast , served in the splendid style characteristic of the worthy host , Bro . P . M . Page , and after the somewhat protracted labours of the

evening ifc was naturally done full justice to . The toasts of the Queen , the Prince of Wales , the Pro , the Deputy Grand Master , and Officers Pasfc and Present , were enthusiastically received and heartily drank . The I . P . M ., in felicitous terms , proposed the health of the W . M ., congratulating him on his successful year of office , and

complimenting him on his correct rendering of the ritnal . Bro . Page sang " Simon the Cellarer ; " then the W . M . responded . By request Bro . Price recited " Tho Two Scars , " by G . R . Sims . The next toast waa thafc of the Initiates , in proposing which tbe W . M . expressed the satisfaction he had felt in having so much work to

perform . After a song by Bro . Coleman , Bros . Munslow , Warlow and Moore suitably returned thanks . The health of the Visitors followed , coupled with the names of Bros . Bond , Maples and Stokes . P . M . Whitley sang " A Fresh Water Trip , " ancl tho Visitors replied , Bro . Maples remarking that as a Putney man he was surprised to

find snch a prosperous Lodge as the Commemoration existing without its being more patronised by Putney brethren . The next toast was the Past Masters . The W . M . sang "The Tempest of the Heart . " P . M . ' s Pardee , Robinson , Collings and Whitley responded , tbe remarks of the latter , being couched in his usual witty strain , caused

considerable amusement . The toast of the Treasurer and Secretary was followed by a song Jfrom P . M . Page , and the Secretary responded , apologising for tbe Treasnrer , who had been compelled to leave early . In proposing the health of the W . M . elect , the W . M . congratulated Bro . Strong on his attaining the chair a year earlier

than had been anticipated . Brother Strong , in reply , remarked that he thonght he was to be pitied rather than congratulated , as he would otherwise have had another year wherein to study , and so

have been better able to carry ont the duties in a manner more nearly to follow the splendid example of the present W . M . To the Officers , Bros . Strong , Wing , Collings and Oliver replied , and the Tyler ' s toast closed a very enjoyable meeting .

Bro . Alfred Greenham then rose and briefly

introduced Bro . James Stevens P . M . P . Z ., who had be n invited to deliver his well-known lecture on " The Ritual and Ceremonial of the Symbolic Degrees of Freemasonry 1813-1886 . " Bro . Stevens proceeded to explain , in a very clear and lucid manner , the working of the Ritual from 1813 , and the innovations which had been intro .

dnced , more especially during the last twenty . five years , many of which he did not a » ree with . For fully two hours the brethren listened with the greatest attention to Bro . Stevens in the delivery of his interesting lecture . Many points in the working of the three degrees were alluded to . Some might be considered of small matter ,

bufc if Officers of Lodges paid greater attention to them the working would go smoother and the ceremonial be made far more impressive than was often the cape . At fche end of fche lecture several questions were asked and replied fco , and Bro . Stevens received fche

congratulations of the brethren present for fche treat he had afforded them , A cordial vote of thanks was unanimously passed , which Bro . Stevens suitably acknowledged . Lodge was then closed , and fche brethren adjourned to the banqueting-room , where they passed a very pleasant evening .

The Great City Lodge of Instruction , No . 1426 . — A meeting was held at Masons' Hall , Masons' Avenue , EC , on Thursday , 3 rd inst . Tbe work of the evening comprised the re . hearsal of tbe installation ceremony ; the W . M , elect , Bro . F . Potter , was ably inducted into the chair of K . S . by the Installing Master , Bro . Benj . Williams , and the addresses ably given hy B ** o . Paddle .

The ceremony of initiation was then rehearsed , Bro . rotter ocenpving the chair . Amongst those present were Bros . Williams , Potter . Pitt , Rush , Puddle , Jardino , Whit-hoiise , Tattewall , Wnlker , Pnnh , Gaskin , Ball Secretary . We nre naked to mention thafc the smoking

concert , to be given on 24 fch March , will have the sopp' . rr . of a la ga number of professional btethren , who have kindly volunteered tiieir assistance . A large gathering and a very enjoyable evening may be anticipated .

M . for next Thursday .

At the North London Chapter of Improvement , at its new quarters , Northampton House , St . Paul's Road , Canonbury , on Thursday , 3 rd insfc .,. Comp . Brasted was tho M . E . Z , Jenkins H ., Barnet J ., Sheffield S . E ., Dean S . N ., Radoliffe P . S . The ceremony of exaltation was ably rehearsed , and a profitable evening was spent by those present .

A complmintaiy dinner , followed by a smoking concert , was given on Tuesday , the 1 st insfc ., to Bro . J . D . Langton , Pasfc G . M . Surrey , the occasion being his resignation of

fche secretaryship of tne Lancaster Clnb , Savoy . The President of fche Club , the Rev . H . White . Chaplian of fche Savoy , made tbe presentation , and the proceedings were of an unusually harmonious and agreeable character .
