o o o LONGSIGHT LODGE , No . 2464 . THE regular meeting was held at the Club Rooms , Birch Lane , Longsight , on Wednesday , the 3 rd inst . There were present : Bros . Councillor Thos . Uttley P . M . D . G . D . C W . M ., H . Grimshaw S . W ., William Gadd J . W ., Frederick G . Berry P . M . Treas ., Wm . H . Wilson Asst . Sec , Aid . Lloyd Higginbottom S . D ., Hy . Sheard
J . D ., E . H . Ritson I . G ., Harry Mundy , Henry Wood , C . S . Cotton Stewards , F . W . Lean P . M . P . G . S . D . D . of C , Edward Roberts P . M . Asst . Prov . G . T . ( FREEMASON ' S CHRONICLE ) , James Crossley , Fred . Grammer , David Baxter and John Adamson . Visitors : Bros . W . J . Melling P . M . Treas . 2185 , H . Clulow Treas . 993 , J . Grimes 163 .
The ballot was taken for Messrs . William Arthur Bacon and Andrew Ellor . Proving successful , they were initiated , the former by Bro . Uttley W . M ., and the latter by Bro . Lean . The ancient charges were delivered by Bro . Higginbottom , and the working tools presented and explained by Bro . Gadd .
The usual festive board succeeded Lodge business , when Loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed , Bros . Bacon and Ellor replying to that of the newly initiated brethren in short but well chosen terms .
Bro . Adamson proposed the health of the W . M ., and took the opportunity of inviting all the members of tho Lodge to a dinner which it is his intention to give at tho Victoria Hotel , Manchester , on Wednesday , the 17 th inst . He also stated that each brother would have the privilege of inviting a Masonic friend .
In responding , the W . M . said that without attempting to boast , it was a pleasure to him to be in the position of Worshipful Master of the Longsight Lodge . With regard to the ceremonies he had performed , and which had seemed to have received the approbation of the visitors , he might say that the pleasure which he derived frcm the rendering of them was equally as great as that which they experienced in listening to them . Both he and his Officers had
endeavoured to perform them in such a way that they should be felt in the hearts , and impress the listeners with a feeling of reverence . Speaking of the social element , he said that the festive board had really nothing to do with the practical objects of Freemasonry , the former was of benefit only so far as it kept the brethren together in closer contact ; but the latter appealed to the inner nature , and if this object was attained , it had done all that was intended .

A STARTLING FACT about the influenza has been recently published . Many people think that doctors enjoy a wonderful immunity from sickness , and thus is established a great deal of the faith which the public have in their skill . The influenza fiend , however , has no respect for the medical profession , according to the annual report of a medical benefit and life assurance society . Last
November the claims for sickness were seventy per cent , higher than the proceeding year , and it is expected that through this disease the claims this winter will be heavier than those during any period since the Society ' s foundation . Although it is evident doctors cannot cure themselves , Holloway's Pills and Ointment either cure or relieve all sufferers from this terribly dangerous malady .
