THE LATE CHIKFCON'STABLK WKEFOKD , OF PLYMOUTH . Amid many tokens of regard ami esteem , the funeral of Brother Wroford , for thirteen years oh of constable of Plymouth , took place on the 29 th ult . at Plymouth Cemetery . Leaving the deceased ' s residence iu Addison Place , the coi tego proceeded up the Tavistock Road and across Mntley Plain , and eutered the Cemetery by the upper gate . Representatives of the varions police forces of the

district walked in a body , four deep , at the head of tho procession . The principal mourners , who followed in two coaches , were Mr . C . Wreford , son of the decased , and Messrs . W . Leach , Leach Jan ., Poniroy , Govett , Holman , Friend , F . Friend , and Webb . Members of the Order of Freemasons , with which the late chief coustable was for many years associated , also by their presence paid a tribute of respect to Bro . Wreford ' s memory .

The remains of Brother Lawrance Phillips , of Park Road , Toxteth Park , who died on Tneaday of last week , wore interred , ou the 28 th ultimo , in the Jewish Cemetery , DeaneRoad , Fairfield , in the presence of a largo number of brethren , the deceased gentleman having been P . M . of Lodge 1356 , and First Principal of the De Grey and Ripon Chapter . The fuuoral service was conducted by the Rev . H . Barman and the Rev . S . Friedoberg .

On Saturday , the 7 th inst ., the funeral took place of Bro . H . J . B . Lawrence , of tho Royal Hotel , Rhyl . The interment took place at the now Rhyl Public Cemotery , and deceased was tbe first to be buried there . The funeral was attended by the members of the

Carodoo Lodgo , of which Bro . Lawrence was * n office bearer , and also the members of the Rhyl Improvement Commissioners , a body of which the deceased was a member for some years . The Rev . T . S . Ross , minister of the English Congregational Church , Rhyl , officiated at the grave .

The unveiling of the Maclean memorial , oreoted by the Logic Club of Freemasons and members of the theatrical profession , took place at Paddington Cemetery , on the 3 rd inst ., in the presence of a representative gathering of Masonry and the stage . The memorial

Committee included the names of Bros . Henry Irving , J . L . Toole , Wilson Barrett and Fred Burgess . The Chairman of the Committee , Bro . G . E . Fairchild , in unveiling tho memorial , said that the simple , though suitable inscription , oxpressed tho feelings of tho Craft and the stage for the well-known actor . The inscription was as follows : —

To the fraternal memory of John Maclean , actor , born 31 st March 1836 . Died 15 th March 1890 . Ercctod by the members of tho Logic Club of Freemasons and other friends and comrades . He was highly esteemed in the Dramatic profession , admired as an accomplished Freemason , and beloved by all with whom he came in contact . "

The Irish Masonic Centenary celebration , to be held in Dublin during the week commencing the 16 th of May , is interesting so many people both at home and abroad—it beiug conducted on such an unprecedented scale—that a short descriptive account of the formation of the School in whose aid this monster bazaar and . fdo is designed for , may be read with interest by not a few . The

English Freemasons owed the idea of establishing an institution for the orphan danghters of their brethren to the Chevalier Rnspini , physician to Kiug George III . In 17 SD their school was started with some thirty pupils ; it now receives 280 , and only threo years ago celebrated its Centenary by raising over £ 52 , 000 . The Irish brethren were not slow in following the English example , and

just one hundred years ago founded a similar school in Dublin , which increased yearly until it outgrew , in 1882 , tho building provided by the Duke of Leinster ( who was Graud Master of Ireland for sixty years ) , and since then tho school as it stands at Balls Bridge—built at the cost of £ 13 , 000 , subscribed by the Irish Freemasons—has

maintaiued and taught eighty orphans yearly , drawn from every part of Irelaud aiid the Colonies where Lodges aro bold under the " IriBh Constitution . " How well tho work is done the annual reports of the governors fully attest . The object of the approaching celebration is to raiEe and invest a substantial sum to help deserving pupils when Inoy leave the School to advance and establish themselves in life .
