direction of Bro . Dr . Warwick Jordan . Tho customary dedication and invocation , with processional hymns and prayer , brought the ceremony to a near conclusion and the consecration terminated with tho wrand Anthem '' i have surely built Thee an house to dwell in : — ' My \ i : iuie shall bo there , '" and tho Patriarchal Benediction . Aa we have already said , the entire function was most creditable to all
concerned , and we could havo wished that a still larger gatherin <» than was presont could have benefited by the imposing ceremony and shared the pleasuro and satisfaction it communicated . Tho installation of the Worshipful Master designate was thou undertakon by the Grand Secretary , and Bro . H . E . Joyce , P . M . of the United Pilgrims Lodge , No . 507 , was inducted into the chair as the
first Master and principal founder of tho St . Stephen ' s Lodge , No . 2424 . The Wardens designate were Bros . Gordon Millor P . M . 257 and J . W . 1900 , and Charles Rawla P . M . 1685 and J . D . 2369 , and these the W . M . invested , with appropriate remarks in token of their assistance as founders . Bro . R . Turtle Pigott , D . C . L ., P . A . G . D . C . was invosted aa aoting I . P . M . The founders wero then called upon to
oleofc a Treasurer , and their unanimons choice fell on Bro . J . C . Merryweathcr , of No . 127 , but business matters having that day necessitated a journey to Antwerp , bis investment was postponed until the first meeting of the Lodge . Tho W . M . appointed Bro . H . F . Bing P . M . and Seoretary 1597 , P . M . 1962 and P . P . G . D . Middlesex , to the office of Secrotary , congratulating the Lodge that
such appointment had been cheerfully accepted , investing him with liia collar of office , and presenting him with a founder ' s jewel . The remaining Officers appointed and invested wero Bros . J . Harrison 810 S . D ., A . R . Carter P . M . 1728 Seo 234 , 7 J . D ., Arthur Harrison 810 I . G ., C . F . Matier P . G . S . B . Dir . of Cers ., and C . Warwiok Jordan , Mus . Doo ., 1314 Organist . In addition to the foregoing the
following brethren signed tho petition as foundors : —Bros . Curwen Sisterson 1196 , R . Martell 507 , Edgar Shand 379 2256 , I . A . Stovell 2345 , and H . G . Bowles 507 . Bro . Ball P . M . was elected and invested as Tyler . The V . W . Grand Seoretary completed his duty as Installing Master by an able and omphatio delivery of the three addresses , and was pleased to receivo at the hands of the W . M .
a special founder's jewel in token of the invaluable services he had rendered to the Lodge . The whole of the Consecrating Offioers were elected houorary members , and a few matters of routine business having beon disposed of , the Lodge was olosed and the meeting adjourned . The banquet was served in the handsome and spacious assembly room of the hotel . An excellent menu had been prepared ,
and great pains taken by the Stewards to secure general satisfaction . Truth compels us , however , to remark that their endeavours were somewhat frustrated by insufficient supply and inefficient service , particularly at the beginning of the feast . Wherover the fault lies this should bo remedied on f nture important gatherings in connection with St . Stephen ' s Lodge . The cloth having been cleared the toast
of tho Queen aud tbe Craft was heartily given and as heartily reapouded to , tbe national anthem boing Rung by tho choir . Iu proposing tho health of the M . W . G . M . tho W . M . expressed congratulations on the return of H . R . H . from his recent visit to tbe Continent , iu good health , and tho sympathy of tho Craft generally with him in tho great trouble himself and the Royal Family had lately gone
through . Ho trusted that much utility would attend the visit of both Her Majesty and HI ' Itoyal Highness to warmer climates , and that health nnd strength for tho fnturo may havo been thereby secured . For tho Pro Graud Mas tor , tho Deputy Grand Master aud Grand Officers , Bro . Sir John Moucktoii expressed rogret that having so much to say in praise of their good qualities ho had so
littlo timo to say it in ; ho would however state , ou their and hie own bohalf , the gratification it gave thorn to find a uew and promisiug Lodgo consecrated in so admirable a manner has the St . Stophou ' . s had been , by a brother whoso recent appointment had caused much satisfaction , and who bad that day given the brethren , for the first timo since such appointment , a taste of his qnality as
an efficient worker of Masonio ceremonial . Tho Graud Secretary proposed the health of the Worshipful Master Bro . II . E . Joyce , in the selection of whom as their ruler he co-isiderod tho founders had exerciser ! much discretion , llo had thought it right on his own purt to mako himself acquainted somewhat with thoir W . M . ' s Masonio career . Bro . Joyco was not by any means new to the
duties and responsibilities of Mastership , having been W . M . of the United Pilgrims Lodge , No . 507 , for two successive years , and iu 1885 rotiring therefrom , with cordial expressions and practical evidences of tho high esteem in which his Lodgo held him . As an exemplar of tho true principles of our Order , and a guide for the members of tho new Lodge , no more worthy or highly osteemed
brother could have been chosen , and bo trusted that under his governance the St . Stephen ' s Lodgo would realise tho capacity for doing that good in Freemasonry of which it now appoared there is such ample promise . Tho toast was drunk with much ' enthusiasm . Bro . Edward Dalzell sang " Thinking of Home , " in his usual effective manner . For this occasion this and other songs in the programme
were specially arranged with vocal accompaniment , which had a novel and pleasing effect ; and wo may hero say that the musical arraugemonts , under the direction of Bro . Dr . Jordan , aud the individual performances of Brca . Schartau , Dalzell , Bradford and Johusou throughout the evening left nothing to bo desired . Ou rising to respond to the toast in his honour , Bro . Joyce received
qui to an ovation and a few moments olapsed before ho could secure a hearing . Ho thanked tho Grand Secretary for what he feared must bo the almost too laudatory tortus iu which hia health had been proposed ; if however they may havo been so , he could at least conscientiousl y declare that it had been his ambition to doaurvo them , lie was not aw old Mason having regard to the

He had now tbe pleasing duty to submit a toast in honour of the Consecrating Officer of the Lodge

Stephen ' s Lodge was the first on what he hoped might be a long roll of Lodges to be consecrated by Bro . Letchworth as Grand Secretary of the Order . The perfect unanimity with which the appointment of Bro . Letchworth to the office of Grand Secretary haa
been accepted by the Craft is the surest evidence that the Grand Master's selection is a good one . Efficiency of Masonio work and kindly courtesy are distinguishing characteristics , whioh Freemasons highly appreciate , and there need be no doubt that in both these respects they will not be disappointed in Bro .
