THE ceremony of consecrating this Chapter took place in the Hall of the Wilberforce Lodge , St . Luke-street , null , on tbe 28 th ult . The consecrating Officer was the Hon . W . T . Orde-Powlett acting M . E . Z ., his assisting Officers being Bro . M . C . Peck Provincial Grand Seoretary North and EaBt Yorks , W . Tesseyman P . G . H . North and Euat Yorks , Thos . Thompson , F . Fullerton , J . Clarke , W . Reynolds ,

D . J . O'Donoghue , Vessey King , and T . Hewaon . There was a very large attendance of visiting brethren from sister Chapters in Hull and district , and the proceedings throughout were most solemn and impressive , and were watched with absorbing interest . The ceremonial was that usually adopted in tbe consecration of a Chapter , and at

its close the regnlar meeting of the Wilberforce Chapter followed , when Bro . W . Reynolds , the Installing Officer , invested tho following brethren as the Officers of the new Chapter : —Comps . T . T . Davis M . E . Z ., J . Mackaill H ., and W . Gillet P . Z . J . A banquet followed , and a moBt enjoyable evening was spent by tho assembled brethren .

ISRAEL CHAPTER , No . 205 .

A CONVOCATION of this Chapter was held at the Cannon-street Hotel , on Tuesday , the 18 th nit ., and being installation night attracted a good attendance of members and visiting Companions . The Visitor present included : —Comps C . H . Webb P . Z . 1744 , H . H . Shirley M . E . Z . 619 , W . Littaur 188 , T . J . Maidwell P . P . G . S . B . Middlesex , and W . W . Lee 1524 . Chapter being opened , the minutes were confirmed , and the audit report adopted . Comps .

J . A . Gartley M . E . Z . elect , L . Norden H . eleot , and E . H . Norden J . elect , were installed into their respective ohairs by the retiring First Principal Comp . J . H . Phillips , who rendered the ceremonies with conspicuous ability and impressiveness . The other Officers invested were Comps . C . F . Hogard P . Z . P . D . G . D . C . S . E ., I . P . Cohen Treas ., J . Liohtenfeld P . 8 ., Sol . Jacobs 1 st A . S ., S . Danoyger 2 nd A . S .,

Glnckstein D . C ., and R . Marous Steward . Comp . Gartley , in presenting the I . P . Z . with a handsome Past Principal's jewel , said it was a small token of the appreciation of the members of the ability displayed by Comp . Phillips , not only during tbo post year , but also in the impressive manner in whioh he had installed the Principals . It was particularly gratifying to them to know that they now had an

Installing Prinoipal in the Chapter , and no doubt his exertions in the future in carrying out the work would be as satisfactory as iu the past . Comp . H . J . Phillips briefly returned thanks for the band-Home gift , and for tho kindly remarks of the M . E . Z . A notice of motion by the S . E ., respecting the subscriptions , was carried unanimously , as was another altering the days of meeting to the

second Wednesday in February , May , and December . The S . E . was instructed to write to Comp . Rev . M . Haines , sympathising with him in his illness , and expressing the hope of the Companions for his Bpeedy recovery . The Chapter was formally closed , and the Companions partook of a substantial repast . The customary toasts were briefly given from the ohair , in order that the Companions

should enjoy the excellent concert that followed . Comp . Hogard , having replied for the Grand Officers , Comp . H . J . Phillips I . P . Z . proposed tbo health of the M . E . Z ., remarking that they all knew Comp . Gartley aa a most •excellent man and Mason . They were well acquainted with bis talents , and modesty would forbid him ( the I . P . Z . ) to expatiate upon them if ho had tho ability . Comp . J .

A . Gartley heartily thanked them for tbe vory kind manner in which hia health had been proposed and received . He hoped they would have a happy year , and he should bo pleased to exalt any brethren the members might bring into the Chapter . He was pleased to think he had such able supporters in the H . and J ,, and he asked the Companions to rise and drink to their health and prosperity .

Comps . L . Norden and E . H . Norden responded , after whioh the Visitors was given . Comp . C . H . Webb expressed tbe pleasure it had afforded the visitors to be present . It was particularly gratifying to him to see four of his past pupils present , and to see three of them installed into their respective chairs . In giving the Past Principals , the M . E . Z . said they had an illustration of the beautiful work of Comp . Phillips I . P . Z ., which was admirably performed , and

which set a good example to the Chapter . It was an impetus to those coming on to aim at as high a point of perfection as possible . Comp . H . J . Phillips returned thanks , and , the Officers having been given , tho Janitor ' s toast closed the proceedings . The Companions

wore then joined by the following ladies and gentlemen , who rondered an excellent selection of music aud recitations , in a charming manner , and contributed materially to a vory pleasant and enjoyable evening : Miss M . whole of the work was carefully and satisfactorily performed . The other two candidates , Bros . Looker and Moss , were not present , and there being no further business hearty good wiBhes were expressed by the visitors , and the Chapter was closed in peace and harmony , at 8-10 . The Companions shortly afterwards adjourned to the banquet room , and partook of a most enjoyable littlo dinner , tho preparing

and serving of whioh reflected tho greatest orodit on Brother and Mrs . Phillips . When the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts had been proposed , Comp . A . H . Jefferis P . Z . P . P . G . Soj . proposed tho health of the six newly exalted Companions , in pleasing terms , and tbe invitation was promptly and heartily responded to . Other toast 3 were honoured , and an enjoyable evening spent . In referenoe to the

unusually large number of exaltees , it is a significant fact that for some long time , when the Chapter held its meetings at Levenshulme , candidates were conspicuous by their absence , in addition to which the membership became smaller by degrees and beautifully loss , but no sooner is a removal to the Freemasons' Hall resolved upon , than in less than six months seven brethren are exalted , in addition to one

joining member , and there is not the shadow of a doubt , despite certain trilling drawbacks , that this East Lancashire headquarters of Freemasonry is , on account of its central position , well suited to the general requirements for conducting Masonio business , and should in all cases , when opportunities present themselves , be made use of for snoh purposes in preference to Hotels . Our experience of tho buildiug for many years is that it is equal to the general demands made

upon it , and that the Manager and Manageress ( Bro . and Mrs . Phillips ) , assisted by a competent and experienced staff , are capable of catering for the most fastidious , in addition to which Brother Wm . Jaffrey ( Chairman of the Club ) and the Committee do all in their power , with a liberal hand , to give satisfaction , either when providing banquets or catering for soirees , & c , an undeniable proof of this being the universal satisfaction we have heard expressed by the ladies .

Our experience of tho buildiug for many years is that it is equal to the general demands made

upon it , and that the Manager and Manageress ( Bro . and Mrs . Phillips ) , assisted by a competent and experienced staff , are capable of catering for the most fastidious , in addition to which Brother Wm . Jaffrey ( Chairman of the Club ) and the Committee do all in their power , with a liberal hand , to give satisfaction , either when providing banquets or catering for soirees , & c , an undeniable proof of this being the universal satisfaction we have heard expressed by the ladies .
