to Chester , a saloon carriage being attached to the 8 . 18 a . m . train for their convenience . On arriving at Chester , two hours were pleasantly spent in viewing the Cathedral and the ancient walls . Luncheon was served at the Grosvenor Hotel at noon , after which the party proceeded to Eccleston by the steamer Toronto , which was in charge of Mr . Gapner , late of Stafford .

The party walked through Eaton Park and subsequently returned to Chester , from Ironbridge . Dinner was partaken of at the Grosvenor Hotel , and home was reached at 9 . 45 p . m ., all having spent a most enjoyable day . The arrangements were well carried out by the Secretary Bro . L . W . Potts , to whom a hearty vote of thanks was passed .

BEAUREPER LODGE , No . 787 . fTnHE 40 th anniversary of this Lodge was held at the Lion Hotel , Bolper , on I Thursday , 22 nd ult ., when Bro . R . W . Mapp S . W . was installed by Bro . Geo . T . Terry as W . M . There was a fairly good attendance . The ceremony was performed very ably . Subsequent to the Lodge business the banquet was served by Bro . Reason , and the usual Masonic toasts followed .

DALHOUSIE LODGE , No . 865 . FTnHE installation meeting of this Lodge , which may be justly called JL " Kensington-out-of-Town " Lodge , was held on Wednesday , 21 st ult ., at the Greyhound Hotel , Hampton Court . A large attendance of members and visitors was present .

In the unavoidable absence , through illness , of the W . M . Bro . Betts , the chair was occupied by Bro . Cox P . M . P . G . S ., who initiated one candidate , and passed three others in a very able manner . The ceremony of installation was performed by Bro . W . Essex P . M .,

Bro . E . J . Green S . W . being duly presented and installed in the chair of K . S . according to ancient custom . A very choice banquet was provided by Bro . Beltram . The usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were given , and a very excellent programme of music was gone through .

ZION LODGE , No . 1798 . riTHE regular meeting was held at the Grand Hotel , Manchester , on JL Wednesday , 14 th ult ., Brother Mark Steel W . M . After the reading and confirmation of minutes , a successful ballot was taken for Mr . Harry Steel , Wholesale Jeweller , Manchester , a brother . of the W . M . and of the I . P . M .

Bro . Mark Steel W . M . performed the ceremony , assisted by Bro . W . Dagnall J . W ., the latter delivering the ancient charge in a very effective manner . At the festive board , Loyal and Masonic toasts were agreeably varied by songs , recitations , & c , the contributaries being Bros . Bernhard Steel I . P . M ., W . Dagnall J . W ., J . B . Levy , Harry Steel , and Edwd . Roberts P . M . 1459 , a very pleasant evening being spent .

The visitors present were Bros . Geo . Broughton S . W . 1345 , W . Broughton P . M . 1345 D . C , Edwd . E . Roberts 287 , and Geo . Hawkins 336 .

TILBURY LODGE , No . 2006 . FORTUNATELY favoured by fine weather , the midsummer meeting of this most hospitable Lodge took place on Saturday , 8 th inst ., with the greatest possible success . Most of the members left Fenchurch Street Station at 10 . 15 , and immediately upon arrival at Tilbury proceeded to the fine Hotel , where Bro . Plumer C . Walker W . M . opened the Lodge for the business of the day .

He was assisted by Bros . A . Lucking P . G . P . Eng ., A . J . Constable I . P . M ., A . J . Brickwell S . W ., George RyonJ . W ., A . J . Dudgeon P . P . S . G . D . Treasurer , Joseph Burton P . P . G . D . C . Secretary , F . J . W . Martin S . D ., H . Long P . M ., J . R . Hill ( the present Master of the Bedford Lodge ) as I . G ., F . Clark P . P . G . D . C , W . J . Flack , & c .

The following visitors were also present : Bros . W . Winn 2509 , C . E . Mercer 172 , G . K . Durrant 2291 , F . Gilbert Wocdgrange , F . Griffiths W . M . 2508 , Orlton Cooper P . M . 211 , & c . Great regret was expressed at the absence of Bro . T . J . Railing Provincial Grand Secretary , who had hoped to be present , but was prevented at the last moment by a sore throat .

The Lodgo was formally opened and the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . Several communications were then read from Brethren who were unable to accept the invitation of the Lodge . Bro . Frank Elliott , a candidate for tho sublimo degree , proved his proficiency as a Craftsman , and the Lodge being opened in the third degree he was regularly raised to the rank of a Master Mason . The ceremony was admirably rendered by Bro . Walker , who was ably assisted by his Officers .

Bro . Dudgeon gave the particulars of the great preparations that are being carried out for the reception of the Provincial Grand Lodge at Tilbury , on the 26 th inst ., at which a large gathering is expected . The resi gnation ot a member was accepted with regret ; and this concluding the business of the day , the closing hymn was sung , and the Lodge was closed .

The Brethren then proceeded to the Quay , where the steam launch " Danube " was awaiting them , and a very pleasant run was made to Southend . Luncheon was served on board , and the afternoon was passed in a very agreeable manner . The party returned to Tilbury about six o ' clock , when Bro . Cave , the courteous and genial manager of the Hotel , had prepared an excellent dinner , to which full justice was done by the Brethren , whose appetite was whetted by the sea breeze .

Upon the termination of the repast Bro . Walker proposed the customary Loyal and Masonic toasts , and bore testimony to the great satisfaction felt in tbe Province of Essex by the promotion of the Earl of Warwick to be Deputy Grand Master of England . Bro . Lucking responded for the Grand Officers , and thanked the

Brethren for the assistance always rendered to Grand Lodge . Bro . Dudgeon replied for the Provincial Grand Officers , who were always anxious to be of service to the Craft in general . They were doing their very best to welcome their Essex Brethren on the 2 Gth , and he thought the result would be worthy the occasion , and the reputation of the Tilbury Lodge .

In eulogistic terms Bro . Constable proposed the health of the W . M . It was always a great advantage to have an experienced Mason as Master of a Lodge , and the Brethren had expressed their satisfaction with his services by

electing him for a second time as their ruler . He hoped that every member would support him at tho Provincial Grand Lodge . Bro . Walker , in reply , said he felt very highly the compliment paid him , by being elected for a second time to the obair , and he would continue to do all in his power to promote the success of the Lodge . If the weather proved

propitious on the 26 th he was sure the gathering would be a memorable one . The Brethren , ever mindful of the wants of others , then passed round the Charity Box for the relief of poor and distressed Masons ; one of the customs of the Tilbury Lodge being to sell the contents before counting the amount collected . After a spirited competition the box was bought by Bro . Flack , and the funds of the Lodge Benevolent Association were increased to

a considerable extent . Bros . Cooper and Griffiths responded for the Visitors , and thanked the Lodge for having given them such a pleasant and enjoyable day . At the W . M . ' s request Bro . Lucking promised to convey to Bro . Railing the expression of their regret at his absence on the occasion , with the hope that he would soon recover his health .

Bro . Walker proposed the Officers , and said he was fortunate in having such hard working Masons to assist him . A Master was of little use unless he was supported by Officers who knew their work , and the Lodge was certain of success when that was the ease . Bro . Brickwell S . W . acknowledged the compliment in suitable terms , and Bro . Blartin brought the proceedings to a close with the Tyler's toast .

The harmony of the evening was enlivened by some capital songB , by Bros . Brickwell , Ryon , and Gilbert , and the Brethren returned home after what was voted by all to , have been a very enjoyable day .

CLEMENCY LODGE , No . 2341 . THE members of this Lodge , accompanied by ladies , held their annual outing on Thursday , 22 nd ult ., and paid a very pleasant trip to Skipton and Bolton Abbey . The weather was dull in the morning , but subsequently it cleared up , and the afternoon was delightfully fine . The party numbered fifty-two , and left Mumps by train shortly after eight o ' clock . Saloon carriages were waiting at Victoria Station to convey them to Skipton . Praise

was showered upon Bro . W . H . Harrell I . P . M ., and Bro . H . Wilde S . W ., for the admirable arrangements they had made , and the time-table drawn up by them was adhered to religiously . A capital dinner was provided at the Devonshire Hotel , Skipton , after which a most enjoyable drive to Bolton Woods and Barden Tower was taken . On the return to Skipton at five o'clock , the party was quite ready for a substantial tea , which was again provided by mine host of the Devonshire Hotel .

Subsequently a brief toast list was gone through . Bro . C . C . Spencer W . M ., who presided , proposed tho Loyal toasts . Bro . Harrell proposed the toast of the W . M . and his " good lady , " and Bro . Spencer responded . Bro . Wilde proposed the toast of the ladies , which was acknowledged on their behalf by Bro . Mallalieu .

The return journey was started at 7 . 15 , and Oldham reached before eleven o ' clock . Every credit is due to Bro . J . Allan Hanson P . P . S . G . D ., who was an admirable Master of Ceremonies .

ST . NICHOLAS LODGE , No ; 2586 . THE members held an enjoyable picnic on Wednesday , 28 th ult . The party left Scarborough for Kirbymoorside by train at 9 . 10 a . m ., arriving at 10 . 46 . At the station they were met by waggonettes , and a circular drive was made through Kirkdale , Hold Caldron . Fadmoor , and

Gillamoor , returning to the White Horse Hotel , Kirbymoorside , for dinner . After this repast , another drive to Lastingham , via Toadworth and Huttonle-Hole , returning by way of Appleton to the Hotel for tea , took place . The return journey was commenced at a quarter to seven , and Scarborough was reached at about nine o ' clock .

PYTHAGORAS CHAPTER , No . 88 . rriHE half-yearly convocation was held at the Lion Hotel , Cambridge , on X the 23 rd ult . The Grand Superintendent of Cambridgeshire Comp . Colonel R . T . Caldwell attended , as also visiting Companions from London and elsewhere .

JORDAN CHAPTER , No . 1402 . AN emergency meeting of the Chapter recently constituted in connection with the Jordan Lodge was held at the Masonic Temple , Torquay , on Monday evening , 19 th ult . Comp . John Lane P . A . G . D . C . Eng . presided , with Comps . T . H . Wills Prov . G . 1 st A . S ., and W . Winget Prov . G . Treas . as second and third Principals .

Four honorary members were elected , in the persons of Sir Stafford Northcote Prov . Grand Superintendent , Comp . W . J . Hughan P . A . G . Soj . Eng ., Comp . G . C . Davie P . G . St . B . Eng . Prov . G . H ., and J . StackerP . A . G . D . C . Eng . Prov . G . S . E . Fourteen candidates wore then elected , and ten exalted , four Companions being elected as joining members .

HALSEY CHAPTER , No . 1479 . AT the Town Hall , St . Albans , on Tuesday evening , 13 th ult ., the installation meeting was hold , after which the Companions and friends partook of an excellent banquet , at which the usual Arch toasts were honoured .

JORDAN CHAPTER , No . 1402 . AN emergency meeting of the Chapter recently constituted in connection with the Jordan Lodge was held at the Masonic Temple , Torquay , on Monday evening , 19 th ult . Comp . John Lane P . A . G . D . C . Eng . presided , with Comps . T . H . Wills Prov . G . 1 st A . S ., and W . Winget Prov . G . Treas . as second and third Principals .

Four honorary members were elected , in the persons of Sir Stafford Northcote Prov . Grand Superintendent , Comp . W . J . Hughan P . A . G . Soj . Eng ., Comp . G . C . Davie P . G . St . B . Eng . Prov . G . H ., and J . StackerP . A . G . D . C . Eng . Prov . G . S . E . Fourteen candidates wore then elected , and ten exalted , four Companions being elected as joining members .

HALSEY CHAPTER , No . 1479 . AT the Town Hall , St . Albans , on Tuesday evening , 13 th ult ., the installation meeting was hold , after which the Companions and friends partook of an excellent banquet , at which the usual Arch toasts were honoured .
