GRAND LODGE OF MASSACHUSETTS .

A Special Communication of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts was held at Brockton , on the 10 th May , for the purpose of dedicating the new Masonic apartments of the Paul Revere Lodge . Bro . S . 0 . Lawrence M . W . G . M .

presided , and among the Grand Officers present were Bros . Edwin Wright Deputy Grand Master , F . Lyman Winship Senior Grand Warden , Nathan S . Kimball Junior Grand

Warden , Samuel Wells Grand Treasurer , Tracy P . Cheever Recording Grand Secretary , Jonathan Bigelow D . D . G . Master District No . 2 , John B . Thayer D . D . G . Master

District No . 19 , and Rev . Hiram L . Kelsey as Grand Chap , lain . Grand Lodge having been opened in Prelate Hall , the Grand Officers marched in procession under the conduct of a Committee of the Paul Revere Lodge , where was

assembled a large concourse of the brethren , members of the Lodge and of other Lodges in the neighbourhood . Prayer having been offered by the acting Grand Chaplain

, the ceremony of dedication was most impressively carried out by the Grand Master , who , when he had completed this portion of his task , briefly addressed the brethren on the

present prosperous condition of Freemasonry in the State . The address concluded with the expression of a hope for the continued prosperity of the Paul Revere Lodge , after which Grand Lodge withdrew to the Prelate Hall , and was

then closed . In the evening the Grand Officers were most hospitably entertained b y the members of the Paul Revere Lodge , the day terminating with a levee and reception given to them and the ladies .

On the 8 th June the regular Quarterly Communication of Grand Lodge was held in the Masonic Temple , Boston , under the presidency of Bro . S . C . Lawrence Most Worshipful Grand Master , who was supported by the following

ttrand Officers , namely , Bros . F . Lyman Winship Senior Grand Warden , Henry G . Fay as Junior Grand Warden , Tracey P . Cheever Recording Grand Secretary , George P . ' Sanger Corresponding Grand Secretary , John L

Stevenson as Grand Marshall , Charles M . Avery and J . Francis Lotts G . Lecturers , Charles Harris G . J . Deacon . ' There were also present Past Grand Masters Bros . Chas . Dame , S . D . Nickerson , and Charles A . Welch , and Past

Deputy Grand Masters Bros . G . W . Warren , Charles L . Woodbury , and A . H . Howland jun ., together with the representatives of eighty-one Lodges in the jurisdiction . The greater part of the proceedings was without interest

outside the limits of the State , but Grand Lodge accepted the Report of the Committee appointed to consider tbe question of centenary Warrants being granted to Lodges entitled to receive them and centenary medals

being worn b y regular members of all such Lod ges . The following is the body of the proposed Warrant , the preamble—a _ mere statement of the circumstances of its grant—being unnecessary : —

Now , therefore , know ye , That I , Grand Master of Masons in Massachusetts , by virtue of the authorit y in me vested , do hereby give and grant to all and each of the members of tbe said Lodge permission to wear in all Masonic meetings , suspended bv the left

oreast b y a ribbon of blue , a jewel or medal , of the pattern or device of the drawing in the margin hereof , as a centenary medal . But such medal is to be worn only by those Brethren who are in regular standing in the said Lodge . Given at the Masonic Temple , Boston , this day of A . L .

Provincial Contributions To The Masonic Institutions,

PROVINCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE MASONIC INSTITUTIONS ,

DURING THE SEPTENNIAL PERIOD 1875—81 . THE analytical task we have imposed upon ourselves in connection with the Provinces and the Anniversary Festivals of our three Institutions , during tbe seven years , from 1875 to 1881 , both inclusive , still lacks a something in order to make it complete . That something is a summary of the three tabular statements we have published of

the amounts contributed by the Provinces to all three Institutions . We have give the details to each Charity , we now give the totals for all three . In doing this , we

shall avoid retraversing the ground we have gone over already , but there are one or two features to which it seems desirable we should call the attention of our readers . It will be a source of satisfaction to the Craft to be

informed that no less than thirty or rather more than twothirds of the Provinces have been represented at eleven Festivals and upwards . Of these the following eight have sent Stewards to each of the twenty-one held during this period , namely , Kent , East Lancashire , West

Lancashire , Middlesex , Oxfordshire , Suffolk , Surrey , and West Yorkshire . Three Provinces , Berks and Bucks , Cheshire , and Herts have attended all the Festivals but one , Berks and Bucks having missed the Benevolent Festival in 1876 . Cheshire , the Benevolent of 1879 , and Herts , the Girls ' Festival of 1876 . Four have subscribed at nineteen

Festivals , namely , Hants and Isle of Wight , unrepresented at the Girls' Festivals of 1875 and 1877 ; Somersetshire absent from the Girls in 1877 and the R . M . I . B . in 1880 ; Surrey from the Benevolent in 1875 and the Girls' in 1876 ; and Warwickshire from the Benevolent Festivals of 1876 and

1878 ; Derbyshire , Devonshire , and Essex have missed three Festivals ; the first the Benevolent of 1876 , and the Girls' of 1876 and 1877 ; the second , the Benevolent of 1879 , the Girls of 1875 , and the Boys of 1880 ; and the last , the Benevolent of 1875 , and the Girls' Festivals of 1876

and 1879 . Gloucestershire , unrepresented in 1875 and 1876 at the Benevolent and Girls' Festivals , has sent Stewards to seventeen Festivals . Dorsetshire , North Wales and Salop , and Staffordshire have attended sixteen Festivals ; Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire fifteen ,

Wiltshire fourteen , Norfolk and South Wales , East Division , thirteen , Durham and Northumberland twelve each , and Leicestershire and Rutland eleven . The remaining Provinces . show the following attendances , namely , Bristol ten ; Notts and South Wales ( Western Division ) nine

each ; Norths and Hunts eight ; Cornwall , Cumberland and Westmoreland , and Worcestershire . seven each ; Northumberland six , Cambridge and Jersey three , Beds and Herefordshire two , and Channel Islands one . Somersetshire , West Lancashire , and West Yorkshire have each had the

honour of furnishing the Chairman at two Festivals . Durham , Gloucestershire , Hants and the Isle of Wight , Lancashire East , Norfolk , Norths and Hunts , Oxfordshire , Staffordshire , Warwickshire , and North and East Yorkshire , by their respective Chiefs , have presided each at one

Festival , while Oxfordshire and Staffordshire may be said to have shared the honours of the presidency at the Benevolent Festival in 1877 , Prince Leopold Prov . G . M . of the former having undertaken to preside , but being at tbe last

moment prevented by illness from carrying out his intention , while the late Earl of Shrewsbury and Talbot generously took the place of His Royal Highness . The Chairman at the Girls' Festivals in 1877 and 1879 , and the Boys'
