An interesting feature of the post-prandial proceedings was the introduction of a toast to " The Mayor and Corporation of Colchester , " with special reference , of conrse , to those who were Masons . It was
most happily proposed by Bro . Welch , who said the Lodge felt it a high honour to number the Chief Magistrate and several distinguished members of the Town Council among its members . Referring to the Mayor , Bro . Welch , amid great applanse , said he ventured to affirm that no one had filled that exalted position with greater dignity and urbanity than Bro . Past Master Chaplin . The Mayor , in
responding , thanked the brethren for the hearty welcome they had accorded him ; and said , that though the annals of their Lodge dated back more than 100 years , he believed his position that evening was a unique one . Bro . Cole P . M . proposed the toast of "The Masonic Charities , " and mentioned the fact that at the present time
there were 214 girls , 230 boys , and nearly 400 old men and women dependent upon the three great Institutions of the Craft . Bro . Terry , whose name was coupled with the toast , took occasion to recognise the great assistance which had been given by the Angel Lodge to "The Charities , " and mentioned that a Mrs . Eade , of Colchester , was eleoted on the Foundation of the R . M . B . I . a short time since .
Altogether the gathering was a snccessful and happy one , and the pleasures of the evening were enhanced by some vocal music , under the direction of Bro . Osmond P . G . O ., by Bro . John J . C . Turner , A . S . B . Sparling , W . Sowman , A . Welch , E . Gowers , and R . Clowes . It is worthy of note that as far as can be ascertained Bro . Richey is the first military brother who has sat in the chair of the Angel Lodge

THE annual meeting of this Lodge was held at St . George ' s Hall , East Stonehouse , on Monday , when the W . Master-Elect , Bro . Charles Croydon , of Fore-streefc , Devonport , was duly installed as the W . Master for the year ensuing . There was a good attendance , including some twelve or fourteen Past Masters . Bros . R . H . Rae and J . E . Curteis ably performed the ceremony of installation , after which the Worshipful Master proceeded to appoint the following
brethren as his Officers : —Bros . Colonel Fitzgerald I . P . M ., A . S . Hendry S . W ., W . Ollis J . W ., Rev . W . Lemon Chaplain , Bayly Treai surer , R . H . Rae Secretary , G . Hawken S . They sat down to an excellent dinner , after which a pleasant evening was spent in the disposal of the customary toasts , occasionally enlivened by some

Lodge was successively opened in the 2 nd and 3 rd degrees , when the ceremony of raising was rehearsed , Bro . S . Blasby candidate . Bro . B . Blasby was elected W . M . for the meeting on 29 th July . A letter was read from Bro . P . M . Roe , resigning his position as Preceptor of the Lodge . The resignation was accepted with much regret . The question of appointing a Preceptor was deferred until 29 ch July , Lodge was then closed in due form and adjourned until 15 th July at 7 . 30 p . m ., Officers' night , when the Andit Committee will meet .

and Bro . F . Watson F . C . for the candidates , there having been thirteen initiated during the past year . Between the toasts , Bros . Sy lvester and Wetton contributed a rich musical treat , with voice and instrument , which aided to wile away the time , far too short , of a most enthusiastic and happy meeting . We venture to predict a very successful year of office for the popular brother who now fills the chair . The Tyler ' s toast brought the evening to a close .

11 HE Anniversary Festival of this Lodge , with which was combined - the " Ladies Day , " was celebrated on the 7 th inst . by the W . M . Bro . A . W . Fenner , and many brethren , their ladies and friends . The " Crown Gardens" afforded them an agreeable resort , and they were fortunate in having a fine day . This' was especially appreciated , as on the occasion of the last annual outing , at the " Forest Hotel , ' Epping , the day was wet and stormy . The guests , who came
down both by road and rail , on their arriva soon joined in the many healthful sports and pastimes which can be enjoyed at these gardens . Amongst those present were Bros . A . W . Fenner W . Bening has evidently made these celebrations a special study , this will account for the perfect ensemble which marked the proceedings The banquet being ended , after grace the W . M . gave , in comp limentary terms , the health of Her Gracious Majesty the Queen , explaining to the ladies present the honour always done to the toast by
Freemasons . On the present occasion he would ask them to join the brethren in drinking the health of the Queen who , whether as a mother , a wife , or as the occupier of the throne , had won the hearts of her subjects . and Bro . F . Watson F . C . for the candidates , there having been thirteen initiated during the past year . Between the toasts , Bros . Sy lvester and Wetton contributed a rich musical treat , with voice and instrument , which aided to wile away the time , far too short , of a most enthusiastic and happy meeting . We venture to predict a very successful year of office for the popular brother who now fills the chair . The Tyler ' s toast brought the evening to a close .

11 HE Anniversary Festival of this Lodge , with which was combined - the " Ladies Day , " was celebrated on the 7 th inst . by the W . M . Bro . A . W . Fenner , and many brethren , their ladies and friends . The " Crown Gardens" afforded them an agreeable resort , and they were fortunate in having a fine day . This' was especially appreciated , as on the occasion of the last annual outing , at the " Forest Hotel , ' Epping , the day was wet and stormy . The guests , who came
down both by road and rail , on their arriva soon joined in the many healthful sports and pastimes which can be enjoyed at these gardens . Amongst those present were Bros . A . W . Fenner W . Bening has evidently made these celebrations a special study , this will account for the perfect ensemble which marked the proceedings The banquet being ended , after grace the W . M . gave , in comp limentary terms , the health of Her Gracious Majesty the Queen , explaining to the ladies present the honour always done to the toast by
Freemasons . On the present occasion he would ask them to join the brethren in drinking the health of the Queen who , whether as a mother , a wife , or as the occupier of the throne , had won the hearts of her subjects .
