CLAREMONT LODGE , No . 1861 .

THE members met to celebrate the first Anniversary of tho Consecration of their Lodge on Monday , the 11 th instant , at tho School Room , Park-road , Esher . This Lodge cannot boast of being strong in membership , but there prevails amongst the brethren a mutual desire to be comfortable , and to make all around them satisfied with tbe way in which the business is conducted . As a consequence , the

proceedings are universally characterised by a spirit of harmony which it wonld be satisfactory if we found more prevalent in onr midst . the minutes had been read and confirmed , the ceremony of Installation was proceeded with . In consequence of the S . W . Bro . Manning being already in the chair of a Lodge , tho choice of the members at the last meeting had fallen on the J . W ., Bro . J . M . Collins , who was presented by Bro . Frances P . M ., and the ceremony was carried ont with the customary formalities . On the readmission of the brethren

the Officers were appointed : —Bros . F . A . Manning S . W ., F . W . T . Goddard J . W ., T . Vincent P . M . Treasurer , H . E . Frances P . M . Sec , T . De Leliva J . D ., E . Pincott I . G ., B . Williams D . C , J . Snowden W . S . and Bowler Tyler , It was proposed and nnanimonsly agreed to , that the Rev . Brother Foakes-Jackson , Past Provincial Grand Chaplain Surrey , be made honorary Chaplain of the Lodge . Bro . Jaokson , in acknowledging

this compliment , expressed the pleasure it afforded him , comparatively a stranger , at being so honoured . It was with intense gratification he accepted the post . The new W . M . then presented his banner to the Lodge , and this having been formally accepted , a handsome P . M . ' s jewel ( designed by Bro . H . E . Frances ) was handed to the outgoing Master , together with an illuminated address , which bore the following inscription : —

Claremont Lodge , No . 1861 . This Testimonial , with the Past Master ' s Jewel of the Lodge , Was presented to BRO . T . VINCENT W . M . P . G . S . Surrey , On his leaving the chair ,

To commemorate his being the first W . M . and Founder . As a token of appreciation for efficient services , and to mark the esteem he is held in by the Brethren . July 11 th , 1881 .

These gifts were gracefully acknowledged by Bro . Vincent , who assured the ^ brethren it would be with infinite pride that he should wear the jewel amongst his brother Freemasons . After routine work Lodge was dosed . Later on a capital banquet was supplied . The W . M . Bro . Collins , presided , and the proceedings throughout were of a most agreeable character .

Kings Cross Lodge of Instruction , No . 1732 . —The regular meeting was held on the 10 th inst ., at Bro . Devine ' s , Blue Posts , Charlotte-street , Fitzroy-square . Bros . Birrell W . M ., H . L . Phillips S . W ., Vallentine J . W ., Devine Treasurer , L . Solomons Secretary , J . Edwards S . D ., W . J . Burgess J . D ., B . Kauffmann I . G ., Hemming Preceptor . Lodge was opened , and the minutes were confirmed . Bro . Vallentine worked the first , the W . M . the fourth

section . The ceremony of initiation was then rehearsed , Bro . J . C . Harvey acting as candidate . The ceremony of passing was next rehearsed , and the first section of that lecture worked . The W . M . informed the brethren that during the rebuilding of Bro . Devine ' s premises the LodSe of Instruction would be held at the house of the widow of the late respected Bro . Coplin , the Adam ' s Arms , Hampstead-street , Tottenham -court-road , where the first meeting will be held on the 17 th inst .
