Latimer ) was reminded thafc he had beeu appointed Junior Warden of the Provinco in the same year that the Prince of Wales opened the Guildhall in Plymouth , and he had
also had the pleasure of seeing him installed in London . All knew how popular the Prince of Wales had made himself to all classes , and how mnch during his reign Freemasonry had flourished , and that , notwithstanding the depression of trade , over £ 44 , 000 had been sent to the great Charities in London during the past year . Bvo . Cnrteis proposed the Grand Officers , speaking highly of thoir
well-known abilities . AV . Bro . John Treeby , in proposing the health of the Prov . G . Master Lord Ebrington , stated his lordship ' s father was initiated in the Charity Lodge in 1845 , and presided as Master of the Lodge in 1849 . they had decided—and he thought wisely—that thoy would not be a peripatetic Lodge , bufc would prefer to remain in Plymouth . Ho had travelled about a thousand miles during the past year to attend his Lodge , and had been amply rewarded . Other toasts followed , and a very happy nnd insbructivo evening was spent . Stevens in Grand Lodge , and expressed an opinion that it was calculated to do good , and that a revision of the ritual in many quarters was desirable . In replying to the toast of tho Prov . Grand Lodge of North and Bast Yorkshire , Dr . Boll spoke of the progress of Masonry in tho districtand ;

aunciod to the coming Benevolent Festival , when the Earl of Zetland would preside , and expressed a hope that the Province would bo well represented . Bro . T . B . AVhytehead proposed tho Visitors , and spoke of tho hospitality of the Lodges in York a century ago , as proved by the nnmber of visitors recorded in their minute books . Ho also said that he was thoroughly with Bro . Stevens in wishing to
see a suppression of certain foolish excrescences Avhich had grown npon the orthodox ritual in certain Lodges , and he thought Bro . Stevens had adopted tho most straightforward and commonsenso plan of going to the fountain head in the first instance , and claiming the aid of the Grand Lodge in the matter . The toast list was soon

H . tho Prince of AVales , as a whole-hearted Englishman , aud an honoured Mason , and one to whom all looked up with loyal and respectful
confidence . Tho health of tho Pro G . M . the Earl of Carnarvon , was drunk ab tho bidding of Wor . Bro . Hnsband . AVdr . Bro . Harvey proposed the Prov . G . M . of Cornwall , and had the whole company heartily with him in describing tho Earl of Mount Edgcumbe as a model Provincial Graud Master , governing the Provincial Grand Lodgo with consummate tact , firmness and courtesy . The brethren subsequently celebrated the Festival of St . John at a
sumptuous banquet , served by Miss Oliver , AVhite Hart Hotel , AVorshipful Bro . tho Eev . George Kennedy the newly-installed AV . M . presiding . When dessert had been laid , the AV . M ., in felicitous terms , gave tho Loyal toasts , speaking of tho Grand Master , H . E . H . tho Prince of AVales , as a whole-hearted Englishman , aud an honoured Mason , and one to whom all looked up with loyal and respectful
confidence . Tho health of tho Pro G . M . the Earl of Carnarvon , was drunk ab tho bidding of Wor . Bro . Hnsband . AVdr . Bro . Harvey proposed the Prov . G . M . of Cornwall , and had the whole company heartily with him in describing tho Earl of Mount Edgcumbe as a model Provincial Graud Master , governing the Provincial Grand Lodgo with consummate tact , firmness and courtesy . gavo tho Deputy Prov . G . M . Col . Peard , and AVor . Bro . Hnthnanco the Prov . G . L . of Cornwall . To the latter toast AVor . Bro . John Hocking jun . P . P . GJ . W . responded , feeling sure that the working of their Prov . Grand Lodge was equal to that of any Province . This was duo to the zeal and energy of the Prov . G . M ., who had most wisely encouraged Lodges to provide halls of their own . The Prov . Grand Lodgo
was never numerically stronger , aud its Charities never more liberally supported . Next came tho toast of the evening , the AV . M . of Cornubian , No . 450 , and it was received most enthusiastically . It was heartily submitted hy AVor . Bro . Pool , the senior P . M ., Avho Avas pleased to say without hesitation that during his membership of thirty years no one had filled tho Master's chair in a manner moro worthy of esteem , respect , and confidence than its present occupant .
