occupied by Bro . G . Gregory P . M . 1538 , who was supported b y Bros . Messer , Jackson , Boss , Bleakley , Dimsdale ( Secretary ) , and others . The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Bleakley acting as candidate . The first aud second sections of the first lectnre were

worked b y Bro . Ferguson , assisted by tho brethren . The snm of 0 rie guinea was voted oat of the Lodge funds to Mrs . Shary , an unsuccessful candidate at the last election of the Eoyal Masonic Benevolent Institution . Bro . Messer waa unanimously elected W . M . for the ensuing meeting .

The Actor ' s Benevolent Fund . —Tho fourth annual benefit in aid of this Fund will take place at the Lyceum Theatre on Satur . clay evening , 24 th inst ., when their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales have graoiously signified their intention of being

present . The ladies and gentlemen of the Lyceum , company have volunteered their services , and will appear in "The Bolls , " Mr Irving sustaining his original part . This will be followed by " Raising the Wind , " in whioh both Mr . Irving aud Miss Ellen Terry will appear .

The author of " Little Empress Joan , " " Nob Found Out , " & o ., has written a new serial story for Little Folks Magazine , which will be commenced in the July issue , forming the fir 3 t part of a new volume . In tho same number will appear a picfcui'e in colours , called

"Me Too ! " specially painted by Alice Havers , and details of a special "Home , Foreign and Colonial" Literary Competition for children of all ages , in which a large number of prizes and medals are offered to boya and girls residing in all parts of the world ,

The Late Major Doyle

THE LATE MAJOR DOYLE

THE obsequies of the late Major Thomas A . Doyle were solemnized 14 th June , at the First Congregational Church Providence , R . I . Business was suspended , and the city was dressed in mourning habiliments . The remains were escorted from City Hall to the charoh by a grand column , in which was represented the city government , city officials from all parts of New England , United States and

state officers , and representatives of leading business , commercial , literary , educational , charitable , and other societies of the city and state . The streets were thronged with people , and bells tolled dur , ing the passage to the church . The services consisted of the Kings ' Chapel ritual , conducted by Rev . Messrs . Slicer and Woodbury , and

singing by the choir and a chorus from the high school . Tho Grand Lodge of Masons took charge of the body at the close of the service , and escorted the remains from tho church , there being in the escort some of the most distinguished members of the Order from all parts

of the country . At Swan Point Cemetery the Masonic ritual was said , and as the body was lowered into the grave the children of the public schools cast flowei' 3 upon the oasket . The floral tributes wero superb masterpieces in size and beauty of arrangement , and commanded general admiration . —Exchange .

worked b y Bro . Ferguson , assisted by tho brethren . The snm of 0 rie guinea was voted oat of the Lodge funds to Mrs . Shary , an unsuccessful candidate at the last election of the Eoyal Masonic Benevolent Institution . Bro . Messer waa unanimously elected W . M . for the ensuing meeting .

The Actor ' s Benevolent Fund . —Tho fourth annual benefit in aid of this Fund will take place at the Lyceum Theatre on Satur . clay evening , 24 th inst ., when their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales have graoiously signified their intention of being

present . The ladies and gentlemen of the Lyceum , company have volunteered their services , and will appear in "The Bolls , " Mr Irving sustaining his original part . This will be followed by " Raising the Wind , " in whioh both Mr . Irving aud Miss Ellen Terry will appear .

The author of " Little Empress Joan , " " Nob Found Out , " & o ., has written a new serial story for Little Folks Magazine , which will be commenced in the July issue , forming the fir 3 t part of a new volume . In tho same number will appear a picfcui'e in colours , called

"Me Too ! " specially painted by Alice Havers , and details of a special "Home , Foreign and Colonial" Literary Competition for children of all ages , in which a large number of prizes and medals are offered to boya and girls residing in all parts of the world ,

THE LATE MAJOR DOYLE

THE obsequies of the late Major Thomas A . Doyle were solemnized 14 th June , at the First Congregational Church Providence , R . I . Business was suspended , and the city was dressed in mourning habiliments . The remains were escorted from City Hall to the charoh by a grand column , in which was represented the city government , city officials from all parts of New England , United States and

state officers , and representatives of leading business , commercial , literary , educational , charitable , and other societies of the city and state . The streets were thronged with people , and bells tolled dur , ing the passage to the church . The services consisted of the Kings ' Chapel ritual , conducted by Rev . Messrs . Slicer and Woodbury , and

singing by the choir and a chorus from the high school . Tho Grand Lodge of Masons took charge of the body at the close of the service , and escorted the remains from tho church , there being in the escort some of the most distinguished members of the Order from all parts

of the country . At Swan Point Cemetery the Masonic ritual was said , and as the body was lowered into the grave the children of the public schools cast flowei' 3 upon the oasket . The floral tributes wero superb masterpieces in size and beauty of arrangement , and commanded general admiration . —Exchange .
