Quincoy of 1178 , were then duly presented , and exalted to the degree . The Chapter being closed , banquet was served , made doubly pleasant by the genial supervision of Bro . Clemow , and then followed tho usual toasts . Tho responses , though of tho stereotyped character , namely everybody praising everybody else , somo deservedly so , and others who havo no claim for such distinction , only
that iu the present instance most of the commendatory language was extremely apropos . The visitors justly remarked that in their experience , during a considerable series of years , they had never witnessed officers immediately upon their installation and investiture proceed to perform their appointed work Avith so much address and ability . The M . E . Z ., always careful in all ho undertakes , was
excellent ; aud even to tho lowest officer each Companion comp leted his Avork most satisfactorily . As to the performance of the installation ceremonies , Comp . Cubitt observed : Ifc was a treat ; he had never seen them done better . Thero was some very pleasant and amusing singing , by Comps . Mortlock , Constable , Stead , and Pinder , and a few more speeches by the exaltees aud subordinate officers before tho assembly separated . It should he mentioned that
the report of the Audit Committee , which was unanimously adopted , and ordered to bo entered upon tho minutes , showed the Chapter to be , financially speaking , in a most gratifying condition ; upon this tho members have every reason to congratulate themselves , as also upon the fact that under the guidance of the present chief its prestige and prosperity can scarcely fail to be considerably increased .
Sincerity Lodge , No . 174 . —Ifc is proverbial that at Installation Meetings of the brethren of this prosperous Lodge there is sure to be a large attendance ; the members on Wednesday last assembled unusually strong , and there was a very long list of visitors , amongst whom wo may mention Bros . H . G . Buss Assistant Grand Secretary , Jas . Terry P . M . 228 , P . G . D . C . Herts , & c , G . Ward
Verry P . M ., T . J . Barnes P . M . 554 , T . J . Maidwell W . M . elect 27 , J . H . Cambridge S . W . 15 , R . Moss 152 , A . Mellish 188 , Aug . G . Perceval 453 , J . J . Berry P . Hubbort , Wilfred Mnrch , Walter Rawloy , George Palmer , & c . The
W . M . Bro . G . J . Hilliard opened his Lodgo , and after the minutes had received confirmation , proceeded with the work of the evening , which Avas unusually heavy . The ballot was brought into request for Gro . H . G . Savage , formerly a Past Master of the Lodge , and this resulted in his being accepted , and placed again on the list of members . Bro . Gray was a candidate for the third degree , and he was examined ,
entrusted , aud iu due course raised . There were three candidates for the second degree ; they all gave evidence of progress in their Masonic knowledge , and Bro . Hilliard completed the work of his year of office by passing them . The chair was now taken by Bro . John Newton P . M ., and the Worshipful Master elect , Bro . John Appleby , was presented and formally obligated . Those brethren not entitled to
wear the levels were now requested to retire , and a Board of I . M . a was formed . Bros . Rawley and T . J . Barnes acted as Wardens . On the re-admission of the brethren tho appointment of Officers Avas made Bros . G . H . Seddon S . W ., Dunstan J . W ., Rawley P . M . Treas ., John Newton P . M . Sec , Webb S . li ,, Jones J . D ., F . Brown I . G ., Verry Tyler , James Fraser D . C , Miller W . S . After tho addresses had been
given , the new W . M . had an opportunity of giving the brethren " a taste of his quality , " as there was a candidate for initiation , for whom tho ballot had been taken at a previous meeting . This gentleman , Mr . John Thomas Cook , was introduced and initiated into our mysteries , Bro . Appleby and his Officers performing their duty in a most perfect and impressive manner . Bro . Rawley P . M . proposed ,
aud Bro . C . Lacey P . M . seconded a motion that £ 10 be voted from the funds of tho Lodge to the R . M . B . I ., the amount to be placed ou the list of Bro . C . J . Perceval . This was unanimously agreed to . The resignation of a member was then tendered and accepted . Bro . Appleby , on behalf of the Lodge , presented the retiring Master , Bro . G . J . Hilliard , with the jewel voted at tho last meeting ; he
hoped he should have tho pleasure of seeing it adorn Bro . Hilliard ' s bieast at many future gatherings of the Lodge . The I . P . M . thanked tho brethren ; ho trusted the day was far distant when his associations with the Sincerity Lodgo would cease . A cordial vote of thanks was then passed to Bro . John Newton , for his services as Installing Master , and then tho Lodge was closed . The
banquet was capitally served , and the W . M . proceeded with the toasts . After that of the Queen and the Craft and tho M . W . the Grand Master , the National Anthem and " God Bless tho Prince of Wales " was sung . The third toast comprised the M . W . Pro Grand Master tho Right Hon . the Earl of Carnarvon , the R . W . the Deputy Grand Master Lord Skelmersdale , and the rest of the Grand Officers . Bro . Appleby said the Pro Grand Master and the Deputy Grand
Master were most deservedly popular ; when we take into cousideration the great extent of Freemasonry , Ave may form an idea of the amount of work entailed on the Grand Officers . Wo have with ns to-night one AY ho holds the responsible post of Assistant Grand Secretary ; he would couplo Avith the toast the name of Bro . H . G . Buss . On rising to respond , Bro . Buss said * Tho W . M . had justly remarked that a vast amount of Avork devolved on the Pro G . M ., the Depnty

G . M ., and tho rest of tho Grand Officers . The Pro G . M . always found opportunity when the calls of his duty were paramount . No ono Avas more popular than Lord Skelmersdale , most especially so iu his own Province . This had been tho first Lodge he ( tho speaker ) ever visited . It was here he made the acquaint , anco of Capt . Oman , a representative man of his day , and one who
Avas doubtless AVOII remembered by many present . Our worthy brother then related somo interesting episodes in connection Avith tho history of the Lodge , and concluded by thanking tho brethren for tho Avay they had received the toast . The health of the Initiate was given , aud Bro . Newton sang the "Entered Apprentice" song . Bro . Cook acknoAvledged the compliment ; they had given him a
hearty reception ; ho thanked them for it . To bo a worthy Mason was the sincere Avish of his heart . The health of the Worshipful Master was proposed by Bro . Hilliard , after which Bro . Moss sang tho Avell-knoAvn descriptive song , made famous by Henry Russell , of "The Desert , " tho accompaniment , so essentially necessary here , being admirably played by Bro . G . H . Seddon . The W . M . thanked
them for having unanimously placed him m the chair . It would be his utmost endeavour to carry oat tho expressed wish of the Installing Master , and hand doAvn the Avarrant to his successor unsullied . Before sitting down ho would propose success to the Charities , they hud with them , in the person of Bros . Terry and Perceval , brethren who would ably advocate tho cause of the Masonio Institutions .
Bro . Terry was Secretary of the Royal Masonio Benevolent Institutition , and Bro . Perceval had undertaken to act as Steward at the approaching Festival for that Institution . Ho would leave the advocacy of the claim of the Charities to these brethren , and wonld content himself Avith calling on tho members to drink success to the Masonic Charitable Institutions . Bro . Terry in the course of his reply referred
to the progress made by tho Masonic Institutions dnring the past thirty years . He considered tho Charities belonging to our Order were better supported than the majority of similar institutions . He then directed special attention to what had been done during the past tAvelve months . The amount raised up to the 31 st December reached £ 43 , 000 . The Institution with which he was more
immediately connected had emerged from the obscurity in which it Avas enveloped a few years back , and now stood foremost . Bro . Terry then recapitulated the benefits his Institution was conferring , and congratulated thoso present on the additions that Avere being made for thoso who desired to participate in the advantages offered by our Scholastic Institutions . Last year , thanks to the exertions of his
Board of Stewards , he had a very successful Festival j this year he trusted he might realise fully as large an amount . He then referred to the present depression of trade , Avhich prevented many from giving as liberally as they could desire . He trusted both his colleagues would bo successful , and referred to tho unsatisfactory state of health of Bro . Littlo , which prevented the Secretary of the Girls '
School taking so active a part as he could desire . Bro . Binckes had a member of the Royal Family for his Chairman ; this , ho was sure , would be gratifying to all . He then passed a deserved eulogy on Bro . O . J Perceval , Avho , though he had already qualified himself as a V . P . of the Benevolent Institution , had kindly again undertaken the duties of Steward . Bro . Terry closed his remarks by saying that the I . P . M .
Bro . Hilliard had offered to serve as SteAvard for the Festival of tho Boys' School . Bro . Perceval Avas gratified at the reception given to him in his capacity of Steward , and he thanked the members for the cordial response made to his appeal . The health of the Visitors was then given from the chair . The Lodge desired to givo them a hearty welcome . Bro . Barnes was called on to
reply ; the W . M . remarking that personally he Avas much indebted for the instruction he had received from Bro . Barnes . Bro . Barnes , in a most comprehensive speech , replied . He expressed tho gratification tho Visitors had felt at tho effective Avay in which tho Avork of the Lodge had beeu carried out . The health of the Past
Masters Avas acknowledged by Bro . Hilliard , and tho Officers severally responded to their toast . The summons for the Tyler followed , and then tho brethren dispersed . During the evening Bros . Hall , Moss , Miller , Weige , & c , favoured the company with songs ; Bro . Keeble gave a dramatic sketch , Avhile Bro . Seddon contributed an excellent pianoforte solo .

Their advent formed a chain of mutual intercourse and sympathy at our Masonic gatherings , aud every member was pleased to see them . He referred to a pleasing episode , as regarded tiro . HOAVO ' visit . Ho was lately a member , and the brethren hoped
