New Cross Lodge , No . 1559 . ANNUAL DINNER . A HOST successful function resulted from the arrangements made by the popular Preceptor Bro . J . D . Graham and the highly esteemed Secretary Bro . G . Faaz , in connection with the annual dinner of this Lodge of Instruction , which took place on Tuesday , at the house of Bro . Lewis Lake , the Kemble's Head , Long Acre . The meeting proved to be one of the most enjoyable of its kind it has been our fortune to attend .

lor the time being work was not thought of , the aim of the promoters of the dinner being to be happy themselves nnd communicate happiness , and so there were merely friendly greetings and social intercourse prior to the adjournment to the dining room , where the tables were most tastefully decorated . The dinner was served in good old English style , and was a great credit to the popular host , at a reasonable cost .

The chair was occupied by the Preceptor who , at the conclusion of the repast , submitted the usual Loyal toasts . Bro . Provincial.

was their custom to devote one of their Instruction nights to an annual jollification , With the object of bringing the members together , and in the hope of strengthening the Lodge . He might say a great deal more in regard to their Masonic working , but as there were gentlemen present who wene not- members of the Order , that was not desirable . The New Cross Lodge of Instruction

was only a young organisation , but it was making good progress . They were always ready and delighted to welcome new members , as no Lodge could progress without such , and as they had one of the best of Preceptors in Bro . Graham he cordially invited his Brother Masons to join them . They might rely on Bro . Graham doing his

level best to instruct all who were seeking Masonic knowledge , and who . placed themselves under his tuition . He urged the members of the Lodge to show appreciation of his services by regular attendance , and a hearty reception of the toast he now had the pleasure to submit . With the health of their Preceptor he coupled prosperity to the New Cross Lodge of Instruction .

Bro . Graham sincerely- thanked the Brethren for their hearty reception of the toast of his health and for drinking to the prosperity of the New Cross Lodge of Instruction with so much cordiality . He should like to see the Lodge better supported , particularly by

members of the Mother Lodge . They had a very convenient room for their meetings , and Bro . Lake always did everything in his power for the comfort of the Brethren who attended , he could assure all who were seeking Masonic instruction that he would do his very best to give them the tuition they desired .

Bro . Menninger P . M . in brief but hearty terms gave the toast of the Secretary Bro . Faaz , whom he described as a hard working member , ever ready to do everything in his power to jjromote the prosperity of the Lodge ; no work on its behalf was too much for him to undertake . He had gone to great trouble in getting together the nice company assembled that evening ; his idea being not only

to ariord enjoyment to those who did attend , but also to attract new members to the Lodge . The work Bro . Faaz did for the Lodge was truly a labour of Masonic love . Bro . , Faaz tendered his hearty thanks . Although theirs was but a new Lodge he was proud to say they had a good number of members , and that the meetings were of a most cordial and Brotherly character .

Bro . Swash gave the toast of the visitors , to which Bro . W . B . Schwarz P . M . replied . Bro . P . Cariello submitted the toast of the host . It was a pleasure to do so as everyone knew Bro Lewis Lake did everything in his power for the welfare of the New Cross Lodge and the comfort of the Brethren who attended its meetings . As their

Secretary had told them it was but a young Lodge , but it was a very prosperous one , and there was every sign of continued prosperity in the future . They had a good Preceptor , a good Secretary , and a good host , ' arid he had much pleasure in calling on the Brethren to drink to the very good health of the last named Brother .

Bro . Lake tendered thanks for the toast and its very hearty reception . It was at all times a great pleasure to him to make the members comfortable , and to ensure that he did not mind what he did , or how much work he devotee ! to the interests of the New Cross Lodge of Instruction . Any trouble he took in connection with their annual gatherings was ' amply repaid when he saw how heartily the members and visitors appeared to enjoy themselves ; he was particularly pleased to see such a nice company present on that occasion .

Other toasts followed , and were duly responded to , great cordiality marking the whole of the proceedings . Among those present were Bros . J . D . Graham P . M . Preceptor , G . Faaz Secretary , W . Grove , A . R . Aston , E . Aston , P . Cariello , Fiske

W . D . , V . E . Gammon and son , W . Menninger P . M ., R . A . Miles , V . Middleton , W . B . Smith , A . J . Swash P . M ., W . Tipton J . Sutchffe , C . Johnson , S . Jacobs P . M ., L . Lake , E . Hancock , T . Wood , H . A . Jones , Beaching , W . B . Schwarz P . M ., J . Wynman , and several others .

Commendation is due to those Brethren and gentlemen who contributed to the enjoyment of the company by displays of musical talent , among them being Bros . Beaching , Gammon , Miles , Jacobs P . M ., and Messrs . Gammon jun . and Nelson . A word of praise is also due to Mr . Frank Gilford , for the way in which he contributed to the harmony by his presidency at the piano .

Wynman , J . Wheeler . '

The Lodge was opened in the three degrees and resumed to the first , when the ceremony of initiation was rehearsed Brother Elliott acting as candidate . The W . M . vacated the chair ' in favour of Bro . Coop , who rehearsed the second ceremony , with Brother Whittmgton as the candidate , he being first examined and entrusted .

Bro . W . H . Making was elected W . M . for Monday next . It was proposed that a hearty vote of thanks be passed , and recorded on the minutes , congratulating the W . M . on the very able manner in which he had fulfilled the duties of the chair , for the first time in that or any other Lodge , and this was agreed to . The in acknowled

W . M .. gment , said he did not expect such an honour . He sincerely thanked the Brethren for their indulgence . We may add that Bro . Firminger is W . M .-elect of the New Cross Lodge , and from what we saw on this occasion we may predict a successful years work in that Lodge , under his direction ,
