THE second Grand Evening Concert of tho season 1 S 79-S 0 was given at tho Albion nail , London Wall , on Wednesday , 17 th inst . These musical entertainments , to which wo havo referred on previous occasions , seem to increase in popularity , if we may judge from tho Buccess that attonded this gathering . Tho conductor , Bro . G . T . II . Seddon , carries out his duties with a spirit of enthusiasm that is

well sustained by tho members of his band ; consequently , tho various selections they perform are rendered with scrupulous attention to all minor details , and as a result a well-balanced and effective programme is at all times put forth . with Clarinet Obligato for Mr . nuntor ; and the popular March , composed for tho marriage of tho Prince and Princess of Wales , "Tho Procession , " by A . Sullivan . Tho vocalists of the ovening were Miss Marian Burton and Bro . George Weige . We regret that the state of health of our esteemed brother prevented his remaining all the evening , bub , thongh suffering from acute pain , the way in which he delivered the

descriptive song , " Tho Wolf , " by Shield , gave intense gratification to the audience . Tho effect was greatly onhanced by the f nil Orchestral accompaniment . Miss Marian Burton waa down for fonr songs"The Better Land , " "Kathleen Mavonrneeu , " "The old , old Story , " and " My Love has gone a Sailing . " To our mind , she was most effective in tho last of these ; tho demands of the listeners

were most persistent , and after the "Old , old Story , Miss Burton kindly complied for an encore by substituting the ever popular " Jeannette and Jeannot . Veterans' Preceptory of Masonic Kni ghts Templar was holden at the Huysho Masonic Temple , Plymouth , on Tuesday , lfith inst ., when Sir Knight Thomas Heath , 1 st Captain , who had been previously unanimously elected , was duly installed as tho Preceptor of this tho oldest Preceptory of tho Province . After the formal business of tho evening , which included tho audit of tho

annual accounts—theso passmg unanimously and being declared by tho Treasurer Sir Knight J . Austin P . E . C . as exceedingly satisfactory —tho Encampment was duly closed in form . A Priory of Malta was afterwards opened , and tho E . Sir Knight Heath was installed as E . Prior of tho Order of . St . John of Jerusalem , Palestine , Ehodes and Malta . This ceremony , as well aa the preceding one—that of the

Eleanor Lodge , No . 1707 . —This Lodge , founded in 1877 , has been hitherto hold at the Angel Hotel , Edmonton , and during the time of its location there , tho number of members increased to twentyfive . Owing , however to a change in the proprietorship of tho hotel , and that the Lodge room wa 3 required by the new arrangements of tho present landlord , it was unanimously resolved to petition Grand

Lodgo for permission to remove the Lodge to tho Moorgate Eostaurant . This sanction having been granted , tho Eleanor Lodgo mot , for tho first time , in its new room , on Wednesday , 3 rd inst . Thero was a full attendance of members and several visiting brethron , all of whom expressed unqualified satisfaction with tho room , which ia well suited to the particular capacities of tho Lodge . The business of

tho evening consisted of initiating Messrs . Stonhill and Piggott , and electing a joining member . Bro . W . F . Catcheside 1063 having been duly balloted for and favourably received , waa then introduced ; after which tho initiation ceremony was very impressively and effectively conducted by Bro . Lovebond W . M . Lodge having been closed in due form , the brethren adjourned to a banquet in tho adjoining room . Graco having been sung , the W . M . gave . tho usual

Masonic toasts , which were heartily received and responded to , and the evening passed away very pleasantly . The general enjoyment was considerably enhanced by the recitations and vocal contributions of several visitors and members . Bro . Fountain Meen Org . 1707 proved of invaluable assistance by his ablo and cheerful conduct at tho piano . The excellent catering of Bro . Kent , tho proprietor , deserves special approbation .

Lodgo was regularly closed to tho first degree , Bro . Langdon was elected W . M . for the ensuing week . All Masonic business being ended , Lodge was closed in duo form . We last week described tho Britannia Lodge , No . 139 , Sheffield , as the oldest Lodge in the Provinco of West Yorkshire , this was an error , No . 61 , Probity of Halifax , being entitled to that distinction . The brethron of tho musical and theatrical professions will learn with deep regret that one of the most popular of their number has passed away . Talented , kind , genial ; with a hand ever open to meet a friend and relieve distress iu whatever form it presented itself to him , a good man and Mason , Bro . Charles Coote , after intenso suffering , died , on tho 6 th inst ., at his residence , 42 New Bond-street , aged

seventy-two . Bro . Coote was P . M . and Treas . of the Lodge of Israel , No . 205 ; Founder and P . M . of the Asaph Lodge , No . 1319 ; Founder and P . Z . of tho Asaph Chapter , 1319 . His loss will bo deeply felt by the musical profession , and by a large circle of private and Masonic friends . Hia funeral took place last Saturday , at Kensal-green , whore a numerous assembly gathered to pay tho last tribute to departed worth .
