JUBILEE CELEBRATION .

THE ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the Marketsquare Cougvegational Church , Merthyr , waa performed on the 11 th of June 18-10 , by Bro . Hopkins , P . M . of the Loyal Cambrian LooVe , in the presence of several brethren of the Lodge , in . eluding Bro . Dyke , who was then J . W ., and who is still a momber . In oelebration of the Jubilee of that function a large number of

Masons , in full regalia , attended the morning service on Sunday , the 8 tb insk » when a brilliant discourse waa preaohed by the Eev . Dr . Chapman , Prinoipal of tho Western College , Plymouth . The Officers and a large number of the members of the Loyal Cambrian were present , ftg well as a large number of visiting brethren . Tho brethren [

assembled at the Masonio Hall and marohed to the ohnroh in procession , the W . M . ( Bro . D . R . Lewis ) bringing up the rear , with the Tyler immediately in front of him carrying a Bible . Upon arrival at the churoh the W . M . oooupied a seat under the platform , and the Past Masters and Wardens sat next to him in the seats below , the

other brethren being placed in the first seats in the centre of the building . After the preacher had pronounced the bonediotion at the close of the service , the W . M . offered tho following beautiful prayer : " Brethren , pray we the Great Arohiteob of the Universe to shower His blessings upon this Chnrcb , its pastor and congregation . May

He grant that our presence here this day may bring to them renewal of prosperity and usefulness , and that this building , standing on its Masonio foundations , may in the future be perfect in all ita parts , and honourable to the builders ; so mote it b ? . The brethren marched book to the Hall in the same order as they came . Luncheon was provided for visitors at tho Castle Hotel .

Bro . J . W . Boughton P . M ., lessee and manager of tbe Theatre Eoyal Portsmouth , has been presented with a beautifully-framed illuminated vote of thanks by the Committee of the Royal Masonio Institution for Girls , in grateful recognition of the valnable services rendered by bim on tho occasion of the Centenary Festival . Tho principal features of tho design are a reproduotion of Bartolczzi ' s

celebrated engraving of the children being led through the ball by the Chevalier Ruspini , tho founder of the Institution , in the presence of the Prince of Wales , tho Duko of York , and other noble and prominent patrons . The quaint costume of tho children of that day contrasts strongly with that of the prosont in the companion picture ,

taken from a photograph depicting the children drawn up in a square awaiting the arrival of their Royal Highnesses tho Priuce and Princess of Wales , at the Albort Hall , London , on the 4 th of June 1888 . Above these drawings , which are encircled by foliage , is a repro 3 entatiou of the centenary jewel worn by the stowarda , and at the side are tho arms of tho Royal Chairman , emblazoned in proper colours .

The one huudred pound prize of tho Art Union of London , has been selected from tho 19 th Century Art Society ' s Exhibition in Conduit Street . Tho wosk is by Hamilton Mnrr , A . R . C . A .
