Wednesday ,- 19 th , at Bro . Hyde's , Bed Lion , Poppin ' s-conrt , Fleetstreet . Bros . Abell W . M ., Brown S . W ., Knill Abell J . W ., Parslee S . D ., Drmy J . D ., Balls T . G ., Long Preceptor , and many others . After the confirmation of tbo minntes the Lodge was opened in tho second degree , and Bro . Nanc > having offered himself ns a candidate for the third , was examined and entrusted . The Lodge was

then opened up , and the ceremony effectively rendered by the W . M . The whole of tho Lecture was gono through with the assistance of Bros . Tate and Brown . The Lodge was closed down to the first . A ballot having taken place at the last meeting , in which Bro . Tate was successful , tho sum of £ 5 5 s was voted from tho fnnds of the Lodge

in his name to such of the Masonic Charities as he shonld select . Bro . Marston having been previously appointed to preside aud perform the ceremony of installation on Wednesday , 26 th March , Bro . Brown S . W- was elected W . M . for the following week . The Lodge was then closed .

The Treasurer , Secretary and Tyler were each re-elected to their respective stations for another term . A notice of motion , given by Bro . Wise at the last meeting , to remove tho Lodge to Anderton's Hotel , Fleet-street , was brought forward , and unanimously carried . Lodgo was closed , and the brethren adjourned for refreshment , spending tho remainder of the evening in social enjoyment .

month to open Lodge with so few attendants ; common respect to the chair , the sense of duty to the Lodge , for the welfare of which every individual brother is directly responsible , and tho obligation which every brother owes to tho Craft , should impel the members of No . 1170 to attend to their duties . M . delivered the charge in a way which called forth the admiration of the brethren . It was unanimously resolved that tho sum of ton

guineas be paid from the Lodge funds to the Girls' School , and also a like amount to the Boys' School . At the conclusion of the Lodge business , refreshment wns provided iu the form of a capital sapper . The usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were given from the chair . For that of the Visitors Bro . P . V . Denham replied , and thanked the brethren for the kindly welcome he bad received from the Earl Spencer Lodge . A very pleasant evening waa spent .

The Great City Lodge , No . 1426 . —The annnal election meeting of this Lodge was held at Cannon-street Hotol , on Saturday , 8 th inst . Bro . Freeman the W . M . being at the time on the Continent , the duties of the chair devolved on Bro . P . M . Headon , who had tho assistance of the various Officers . Lodgo was advanced to the second , and then third degree , and Bros . Lawos and Robson were raised . On

resumption to the first degree , Bros . Mogridgo and King were questioned , and each was advanced to the runic of Fellow Craft . After the reading of the Bye-Laws , which , by the way , aro the most perfect and comprehensive we have ever had the privilege of listening to , the election of Worshipful Master for the next Masonic year required attention from the brethren . The acting W . M . announced

that there was but one dissentient to the promotion of the S . W . Bro . Blackie , and npon enquiry as to who could have oast the stone , it was remarked that Bro . Blackie , as a prominent Officer of the Lodge , wns naturally modest , and had on this occasion given practical proof of his powers of self-denial . Bro . Headon remarked that under the circumstances he felt justified in recording tho election as

unanimous . Bro . P . M . J . Stevens proposed , and Bro . P . M . H . Thompson seconded , that Bro . Headon be re-elected as Treasurer of tho Lodge ; the vote , on being put lo thn members , was named . Bro . Steedman waa also re-elected to fulfil the duties of Tyler . Brothers Green , Vowles and Hannaford were appointed to audit the accounts of the Lodge , their report to be presented in duo course . The most pleasing part of the day's proceedings now

followed . Bro . J . Stevens , on behalf of the members of the Lodge , handed to the custody of Bro . Headon a handsome salver , with tea and coffee service , which had been subscribed for as a testimonial to the W . M ., Bro . Freeman , in recognition of the good wishes of the members on his recent marriage . Bro . Stevens requested Bro . Headon to express to Bro , Freeman the hearty good wishes of his friends , and trusted ho and his wife would enjoy every happiness this world could afford . The salver bore the following inscription : —

Presented , together with a Tea and Coffee Service , To Brother JAMES FREEMAN , Worshipful Master of The Great City Lodge , No . 1420 , With the hearty good wishes of the Members , on the occasion of his marriage , 6 th March 1879 .

Bro . Headon expressed his willingness and pleasure in being entrusted with the presentation of the articles to Bro . Freeman . Reference having been made to the position of two candidates for the Boya ' School , whoso age will debar them if they are not successful at the next election , Lodge was closed , the brethren adjourning to what is facetiously termed a " Great City bread and cheese " repast . At the

conclusion of the supper , the W . M . gave the usual Loyal toasts . Bro . Stevens proposed long life and happiness to their absent W . M . and his wife , and followed it with a few words ou behalf of the acting Master Bro . Headon , This toast was most heartily received and briefly acknowledged . Brothers Stevens and Seex replied to the toast of the Past Masters , and then the acting Master tendered

a hearty welcome to the guests of the evening , several of whom replied . Bro . Moody , tho energetic Secretary , had double duty to perform on this occasion , bavins ; to acknowledge the kind sentiments of the brethren on behalf of tho Treasurer as well as for himself . Bro . Blackie briefly acknowledged the kind way in which mention of hia name was received in couiauction with the toast of W . M . elect .

To the toast of the Officers , several speeches complimentary and to the point , were given , and eventually the Tyler was summoned to give tho final toast , Visitors were Bros . J .
