LAYING THE FOUNDATION STONE OF THE MASONIC HALL AT SIDMOUTH .
THE foundation stone of a new Masonio Hall for the Perseverance Lodge , No . 161 , Sidmoatb , took place on Satnrday afternoon , the 8 fch inst . The site is in Upper High Street , and the hall is to be built from plana prepared by Bro . J . Jerman P . P . G . S . by Mr . W . M . Critchley . Brethren having met in the Lodge at the London Hotel , marched iu procession to the Parish Church , where a service was
conducted by Revs . H . G . J . Clements , Vioar , and H . E . Eoberts , Curate ; the sermon being preached by Rev . Bro . R . Swansborongh , in the absence , through illness , of Rev . Bro . R . T . Thornton . At the conolnskn of the service , the procession was reformed and proceeded to the site . On arriving at the site , the hymn " 0 Lord of Hosts , whose glory fills , " was sung , and prayer waa offered by a Past Provincial Graud
Chaplain . A bottle , containing names of subscribers and relics of Lodge 164 , having been deposited , Bro . J . Albert Orchard P . M . P . P . G . D . C . proceeded to lay the foundation stone in Masonio form , having first been presented by Bro . Jerman with a silver trowel , subscribed for by the brethren of the Lodge of Perseverance . The stone having been laid , Bro . Orchard poured corn , wine , and oil on it ,
expressing a hope that the building wonld never lack that which those things were emblematical of . Bro . E . H . Shorto 39 then gave an oration on the principles of Masonry , after whioh Bro . Orchard handed the architect the plans , and thanked Bro . Jerman , on behalf of the brethren , for the kind and brotherly feeling whioh had induced him to prepare the plans , & o ., free of charge . A Masonic
ode was then sung by those present , and a thanksgiving was said by a Past Provincial Grand Chaplain , and the proceedings were brought to a close by the singing of the National Anthem . The procession was then re-formed , and the brethren proceeded to Brother Huxtable ' a London Hotel , where they dined together . Several of the tradespeople exhibited bunting , and a number of persons witnessed the ceremony .

A MEETING of the Court of Governors of the West Lancashire Masonio Educational Institntion was held on the 7 th inst . at the Masonic Hall , Hope-street , Liverpool . Bro . J . de Bels Adams , one of the Vice-Presidents of the Charity , cjcupied the chair , and there was a very numerous attendance of Governors . The minutes of the annnal court , tbe f mnca committee , and the general
committee having been read and confirmed , the election of a number of children on the foundation of the Institution was proposed aud carried . The report of the work of tbe past year and the Treasurer ' s statement wore nnanimonsly adopted ; and , in view of certain
proposed alterations in the bye-laws of the Institution , Bro . Captain Macnab P . M . 241 ( one of the Honorary Secretaries of the " West Lancashire" ) consented to withdraw the resignation of his office in the meantime . A vote of tharks to the Chairman closed the proceetlings .
