Lisenden ( FREEMASON ' S CHRONICLE ) . The Lodgo was opened at six , with solemn prayer , and the minntes of the previous meeting read and confirmed . The ballot was taken for Mr . Lionel E . Adams , and was declared unanimous . Mr . Adams was afterwards initiated into Freemasonry by the W . M . were Bro . Joseph McKinn S . W . delivered

the north-east corner stone address . Bro . William A . Vanghan J . W . presented the working tools , and Bro . Walter H . Vanghan P . M . P . P . G . Eegistrar explained the first tracing board to the candidate . In reply to a letter of condolence , sent by the Lodge to Bro . Krnsh , on the death of his son , a touching letter was read by Bro . Vaughan , received from Bro . Krnsh , expressive of his appreciation and

gratitude for the brethren's sympathy . A copy of the letter was ordered to bo entered on the minutes . After some further Lodge business had been transacted , hearty good wishes were expressed by the visitors , and the Lodgo was closed in peace and harmony , at 8 * 45 . The brethren snbseqnently sapped together , and the health of tbe W . M ., the newly initiated Brother , the Visitors , & c , were proposed and responded to .

GROSVENOR LODGE , No . 1257 . THE March meeting of this Lodge was held on Tuesday , the 4 th inst ., at Freemasons' Hall , W . C , Bro . G . E . Saunders the W 3 I . in the chair , and a good attendance of Officers and brethren . Aftor tho confirmation of the minutes of last meeting , the W . M .

passed Brothers Trot and Brightmore to tho second degree , in an impressive manner . The anuai election of Officers for the ensuing year took place . The Senior Warden Bro . John Chapman , was unanimously elected Worshipfnl Master , Bro . J . T . Pilditch P . M . Treasurer , and Bro . Whiting Tyler .

Tho dinner was a recherche affair , and did credit to the celebrated cuisine of " The Crown . " There waa a long list of Loyal and Masonic toasts , which wero interspersed by social harmonies of the most talented order , the festival throughout being ono of the most successful Craft functions that has taken place in the city for years past .

BAGSHAW LODGE , No . 1457 .

THIS maybe described as ono of the most successful of the Lodges in the Province of Essex . The meetings are invariably well attended , and tho members seem to be thoroughly imbued with a desire to do their best to carry out the true principles of the Order . At the meeting of Thursday , the 13 th instant , the Lodgo waa opened at the Public Hall , Loughton , at three o ' clock , when the W . M . Bro . William James Sbadrake was supported by Bros . J . 0 .

The agenda paper was essentially a heavy one , and after the reading and confirmation of the minutes , the W . M . commencsd the cere , monial work by raising Bro . Cusack-Smith . Bros . Lawford and Cuff were then separately passed , the W . M . conducting the

ceremonies , and emphasizing his work by giving the charges and explaining the tracing board of each degree . Mr . Jamos Stevens ( son of our old friend of Clapham ) was a candidate for initiation , and presented himself under the sponsorship of Bro . A . L . Sawer D . C . and the W . M ., who respectively proposed and seconded him . The Worshipful Master courteously vacated the chair in favour of our

veteran Brother Stevens , who , prompted by the ability Bro . Shadrake had displayed , exerted himself most successfully to carry out the ceremony with dignity and impressiveness . The charge in this degree was given by Bro . Shadrake , and then Bro . Stevens gave tho explanation of the tracing board . Bro . J . Ambrose , a resident at Loughton , of the Prudence Lodge , No . 388 , was elected a joining

member of No . 1457 , and then Bro . Shadrake , who had resumed the chair , brought forward tho motion to consider the purchase of an organ for the use of tho Lodge . The W . M . having particularised the conditions of purchase , the proposition waa duly seconded , and agreed to unanimously by the members present . We are inclined to believe that this outlav on behalf of the members will be much

appreciated ; it is well recognised tbat good music tends to make our ceremonies more enjoyable , and as the Loughton Lodge is especially strong as regards the musical talent of its members we may look forward to the purchase now completed being regarded as a most desirable ono . Eontine work followed , and in due course the Lodge was olosed . Eefreshmeuta of an ample character were supplied ,

Bro . Slawson , of the Old Kent-voad , having been entrusted with the catering . Brother Slawson ia well known , and on thia occaaion sustained his reputation . The viands were of the best quality , aud the service left nothing to be desired . On the removal of the cloth , Bro . Shadrake gave the loyal toasts , whioh were cordially received and heartily responded to . In speaking of the Pro Grand Master

the Earl of Carnarvon , the Deputy Grand Master , and the Grand Officers present and past , Bro . Shadrake said he came before the members of his Lodge with but a limited personal knowledge of those gentlemen , bnt as he had not beard anything to their detriment he conld readily endorse the general opinion , whioh is that they one and all carry out their duties in a thoroughly efficient manner . After

a song— " Alice , where art thou , " splendidly given by Bro . Bokenham , the W . M . again rose , to propose the health of the Provincial Grand Master Lord Brooke , M . P . Since Lord Brooke had had tho rule of the Province , Freemasonry had made rapid strides in Essex , and he ( the Worshipfnl Master ) felt assured that the announcements that have been made in the daily press aa to the illness of

Lord Brooke had been received by the brethren with intense regret . AU wished him a speedy recovery . With respect to the Deputy Prov . Grand Master and the Provincial Grand Officers , they one and all evidenced a deep interest in the welfare of the Craft . It was fully recognised that in the past the Bagshaw Lodge had turned out somo excellent Maaone . and the Lodge could congratulate itself that

the services of these brethren had received recognition at the hands of the authorities . Ho had groat pleasure in offering tho toast for tho acceptance of tho brethren . Bro . Godfrey Lawford now favoured the brethren with a song ; ho was accompanied by Bro . Walter Latta , R . A . M ., who not only in thia case , bnt throughout the evening , gavo tho brethren a sample of hia great musical ability . Bro . Crowther

P . M . replied , confining hia remarks principally to the popularity which tho Prov . Grand Master had secured for himself , and with the W . M . wishing him a speedy restoration to health . Bro . Tholander and others also replied for the Prov . Grand Officera . The health of the W . M . was proposed by the I . P . M . Bro . Hopwood . The choice of the brethren in selecting Bro . Shadrake had been a wise one ;

Jamos Stevens ( son of our old friend of Clapham ) was a candidate for initiation , and presented himself under the sponsorship of Bro . A . L . Sawer D . C . and the W . M ., who respectively proposed and seconded him . The Worshipful Master courteously vacated the chair in favour of our

veteran Brother Stevens , who , prompted by the ability Bro . Shadrake had displayed , exerted himself most successfully to carry out the ceremony with dignity and impressiveness . The charge in this degree was given by Bro . Shadrake , and then Bro . Stevens gave tho explanation of the tracing board . Bro . J . Ambrose , a resident at Loughton , of the Prudence Lodge , No . 388 , was elected a joining

member of No . 1457 , and then Bro . Shadrake , who had resumed the chair , brought forward tho motion to consider the purchase of an organ for the use of tho Lodge . The W . M . having particularised the conditions of purchase , the proposition waa duly seconded , and agreed to unanimously by the members present . We are inclined to believe that this outlav on behalf of the members will be much

appreciated ; it is well recognised tbat good music tends to make our ceremonies more enjoyable , and as the Loughton Lodge is especially strong as regards the musical talent of its members we may look forward to the purchase now completed being regarded as a most desirable ono . Eontine work followed , and in due course the Lodge was olosed . Eefreshmeuta of an ample character were supplied ,

Bro . Slawson , of the Old Kent-voad , having been entrusted with the catering . Brother Slawson ia well known , and on thia occaaion sustained his reputation . The viands were of the best quality , aud the service left nothing to be desired . On the removal of the cloth , Bro . Shadrake gave the loyal toasts , whioh were cordially received and heartily responded to . In speaking of the Pro Grand Master

the Earl of Carnarvon , the Deputy Grand Master , and the Grand Officers present and past , Bro . Shadrake said he came before the members of his Lodge with but a limited personal knowledge of those gentlemen , bnt as he had not beard anything to their detriment he conld readily endorse the general opinion , whioh is that they one and all carry out their duties in a thoroughly efficient manner . a song— " Alice , where art thou , " splendidly given by Bro . Bokenham , the W . M . again rose , to propose the health of the Provincial Grand Master Lord Brooke , M . P . Since Lord Brooke had had tho rule of the Province , Freemasonry had made rapid strides in Essex , and he ( the Worshipfnl Master ) felt assured that the announcements that have been made in the daily press aa to the illness of

Lord Brooke had been received by the brethren with intense regret . AU wished him a speedy recovery . With respect to the Deputy Prov . Grand Master and the Provincial Grand Officers , they one and all evidenced a deep interest in the welfare of the Craft . It was fully recognised that in the past the Bagshaw Lodge had turned out somo excellent Maaone . and the Lodge could congratulate itself that

the services of these brethren had received recognition at the hands of the authorities . Ho had groat pleasure in offering tho toast for tho acceptance of tho brethren . Bro . Godfrey Lawford now favoured the brethren with a song ; ho was accompanied by Bro . Walter Latta , R . A . M ., who not only in thia case , bnt throughout the evening , gavo tho brethren a sample of hia great musical ability . Bro . Crowther

P . M . replied , confining hia remarks principally to the popularity which tho Prov . Grand Master had secured for himself , and with the W . M . wishing him a speedy restoration to health . Bro . Tholander and others also replied for the Prov . Grand Officera . The health of the W . M . was proposed by the I . P . M . Bro . Hopwood . The choice of the brethren in selecting Bro . Shadrake had been a wise one ;
