M . thanked Bro . Hopwood for the manner in which ho had introduced tho toasfc ; Bro . Hopwood had said more in praise of him than ho felt ho deserved . He had worked hard to qualify himself for hia oxaliod

position , and ho thanked the Past Masters and the Officers of the Lodgo for the cordial support they had given him iu his condnct of the business . The next toast was the health of the Initiate , and Bro . Jamea Stevens jnn ., in acknowledgment , modestly referred to the esteem which had been imparted in hia heart for tho Institution . He waa not an absolute stranger in the Masonio world ; ho had had

the acquaintance—through hia father—of many who held position in the Craft , » nd had long desired to become a member . That desire had now been accomplished , and he trusted he might prove himself an honoured member of the Lodge , and a welcome associate with its members . The remaining toasts were done full honour to ; that of the Visitors waa replied to Bros . Taylor , Stevens , Morgan and others .

For tho Past Masters Bro . Hopwood replied , while the Wardens responded for the Officers . The proceedings throughout were enlivened by somo really splendid singing . The conditions of tho train service fov those who had any distance to travel wore dnly regarded , while grand entertainment was provided for all who dared the venture of fcho inevitable " last train . fTlHE tbirfcianth annual ball in aid of the Benevolent Fund in con-X noction with thia Lodge , of which Biother Henry Gabriel ia Treasurer , was held in the large hall at the Adelphi Hotel , Liverpool , on the 12 fch inst . There was a large attendance of members of fcho Lodgo , visiting brethren , and of course an equally large attendance of tho fair uninitiated . The arrangements for the ball hr 1 been

made by a committee , headed by Bro . Andrew Kirkpatriok , the Worshipful Master of tho Lodge , with Bro . the Rev . H . M . Silver P . M . aa Honorary Secretary . Bro . David Gabrielaon and Bro . S . J . Henocbsberg officiated as Masters of the Ceremonies to the satia .

faction of all present . An excellent programme of dance music waa supplied by Clayton ' s baud , and the ball waa kept np till threo o'clock Thursday morning . Tho entering was done under the direction of Mr . W . Ludlow in the usual Adelphi style . Bro . David Matthewa was the Captain of tho Stewards .

Walter James Parle , a candidate for initiation , who waa proposed by Bro . Deighton and seconded by Bro . Putland P . M . Tho result was unanimously iu favour of fche candidate , who was
