The Rye Lodge ia favoured by having amongst ita members many musical brethren , who during the evening gave several excellent songa and duets , which tended to render fche evening one of the most pleasant and successful the Lodge haa held .

SAVILE LODGE , No . 1231 .

THE Hall of this Lodge , whioh meeta at Elland , haa just been renovated and re-decorated . The Lodge room ceiling ia painted in cerulean blue , and powdered with gold stars j tho sun and moon are also introduced in their proper positions . The cornices are picked out in various colours , and effectively stencilled . Immediately under the cornice is a frieze , into whioh aro introduced tho square and

compaasea in gold and scroll work . The walls are divided into 19 panels , into each of whioh is painted the emblems of the varioua Officers of the Lodge , each bearing an appropriate motto , the acacia , and other Maaonic devices , in hand-painted decoration . Over the W . M . ' s chair , ia ei . Vazoned in true Heraldic colours the Savile arnia and motto , with tho W . M . ' a jowel , & c . An elaborate dado , in raised

work , with borders , & u ., completes the whole . The furniture ia alao treated to harmonise with tho rest of the decorationa . The anterooms , stairoaae , & c , are treated in an effective manner , and preaenfc an agreeable aapeot . The brethren have expressed great satisfaction wifch the thoroughly artistic and Masonic style in which fche whole haa been carried out .

THE monthly meeting of this Lodge was held on Wedneaday , the 12 fch inst ., at the Three Nuna Hotel , Aldgate . Bro . J . The brethren then proceeded to fche election of W . M ., Treasurer , and Tyler for fche ensuing year . Bro . 0 . VV . Swetman S . W . was unanimously elected W . M ., Bro . VV . Beck P . M . Treasurer for the eleventh time , and Bro . Longstaff Tyler . Brother

Loftus then rose , and , in a few appropriate and well-chosen words , proposed that the retiring W . M . Bro . Oxley bo presented with a Past Master's jewel , in recognition of tho ablo manner in whioh he had fulfilled his duties during his year of ofiice . This was seconded by the S . W ., and carried with acclamation . Brothers J . L . Green , Beard , and Holmes wero appointed auditors . During

the evening Bro . Holmes announced that , through the kindness and liberality of tho brethren , he had been enabled to take up a list of £ 47 9 s afc fcho recent festival of the Royal Maaonic Benevolent Inatitutiou for Aged Freemasons and Widows of Freemasons . The Lodge was thon closed , aud the meeting adjourned until Wednesday , the 12 th of April . Upwards of forty of the membera then partook of supper together , and spent a very pleasant evehing .

THERE was a numerous attendance as thc meeting of this popular Lodgo , hold on fche 17 th instant , at the Cock Tavern , Highbury Eailway Station . Thc Lodge waa opened by tho Worshipfnl Master , Bro . M . J . Jessop P . M . 1261 , who was supported by Broa . J . Joel Treasurer , M . do Leenw Secretary , T . Honey S . D ., E . J . Acworth J . D ., A . Levy D . C , W . Wright Organist , J . B . Joel I . G ., J . H . Gluckstoin and J . W . Bash Stewards , C F . Hogard P . G . S . B ., J . M .

Whifceway , who has yefc to be raised , was prevented ( by illness ) from attending on this occasion . In regnlar order the ballot was taken for the respective candidates . For initiation Mr . Henry J . Lewis was proposed by the Treasurer , and seconded by Bro . H . Warner ; Mr . Solomon Abrahams

had for sponsors Bros . II . I . Barnato and M . J . Do Lacuw . Thc result was in their favour , aud later ou these gentlemen were initiated by tho W . M . Tho candidates for joining were Biv . Georgo Howard No . 313 , proposed and seconded respectively by iho Bros . it . and H . Warner ; Bro . Stanley Bamberger , of the Tranquillity Lodgo , introduced by Bros . Joel J . W ., aud Thomas Honey J . D . j tho third

candidate waa Bro . John Abrahams , of tho Harmony Lodgo , Dutoitspan , who waa proposed by Bro . H . I . Barnato and seconded by fche W . M . In each case a favourable verdict was announced , and so the Lodgo can boast of having added five additional members to its roll ns a result of thia evening ' s meeting . ing they said everything they could think of that was good and kind of Bro . Hogard , who had acted aa I . P . M . at tho consecration of the Lodge , and also since their firat Worahipfnl Master Bro . Da Silva left for the Cape , but they wiahed to put in more than words whafc fchey felfc for him , aid therefore they decided to vote him a Past Master ' s jewel . Ifc was all thoy could do for him , but Bro . Barnato had added

a diamond , whioh would enhance the value of tho gift . He only hope ! Bro . Hogard would , in wearing tho jewel , feel the same pleasure that he now felt in pinning it on hia breast . Brother Hogard , replying , said he could hardly find worda svherewich to express hia thanks to tho Worahipful Master and members of the Lodge for their liberality , and for tho kindness he had at all times

received in the Lodge . He had the pleasure of being one of the founders , and since the consecration had attended every meeting and had done what he conld for the interest and welfare of the members , For the valuable jewel he begged to tender his sincere thanks , and especially to Bro . Barnato for generously presenting the diamond .

He accepted it with grateful thanks , but ho waa auro he need nofc say thafc ho did not require that mark of their affeafciou ; ho had at all times received auoh kindneaa from them , both in and out of the Lodge , that he did not want that outward sign of what thoy always folfc for him . The jewel bears the following inscription : —

On tho motion of the W . M ., seconded by tho Secretary , the sum of £ 2 10 s waa voted to fche Biuckea' Pension Indemnity Fund . After routine work , Lodge was olosed . The banquet was served under the personal supervision of Bro . Sams , and gave every satisfaction . The preliminary toasts were briefly introduced by fcho W . M ., and heartily greeted . Bro . Jabex Hogg P . G . D . returned thanks for the Grand

Officers . He did not think he had ever heard the ro-olecfciou of H . R . H . the Prince of Wales aa M . W . G . M . proposed in such eloquent and felicitous terms as thoso used by the Right Honourable the Lord Mayor afc the lasfc meeting of Grand Lodgo . When ho ( Brother Hogg ) firsfc entered Masonry it waa no uncommon matter to find Lodges boing poriorlically closed np ;

thus fche Lodge in which he was made became from No . 201 No . 150 , showing that then Masonry waa shrinking or decreasing . From that time forward , and especially during the timo the present Grand Master had presided , Masonry had extended on all sides and in every direction , and had now become one of the largest bodies of the kind in the country . Ifc waa nofc only largo , bufc moat influential . The brethren on his left had learned for the firsfc time

that brotherly lovo , relief , and truth wero tho most prominent features of the Order . They wore now joined in a bond of good fellowship , and ifc was that universal brotherhood that would bind Masons in universal love in all tbe fonr quarters of the globe . Ho was glad that night to have the pleasure and honour of being present at one of the younger Lodges . He heard from the brethren on hia

right that fche working of the Lodge waa really of a very distinguished character . It was his good fortune to be present at an older Lodge —the Lodge of Israel—when his esteemed Bro . Hogard had a very beautiful present made him for services rendered to that Lodge , and it was his good fortune thafc night to seo him again honoured . Bro . Hogard richly deserved fcho hononrs showered upon him ,

for no man interested himself more than ho in Fresmaaonry , Bro . J . Lowis Thomaa also replied . Bro . Hogard thought they had done full homage to the preliminary toasts ; they had now arrived ab the toasfc of fche evening—fche Health of fcho W . M . They had in their good friend the W . M . an old and tried P . M . of fche Craffc , and one who had done good suit and service , therefore when they elected

him to the chair they elected a brother who knew the proper way to perform the various duties of hia office . The way in which Bro . Jessop had discharged the duties in the Lodge in the various ceremonies , and the way in which he had preaided at the banquet table had equally commended itself to them , for ho united in his own person those two things—the suaviter in inodo and fortiter in re .

He hoped that in their Lodge the VV . M . would never be called upon to exercise fche latter virtue , but should thafc time come ho would do that as well as he had done tho suaviter in modo . Bro . Jessop , iu response , remarked that the brethren always said more than their W . M . deserved , at least ifc had been so since he had occupied the chair . From thc bottom of his heart bo thanked them for their kindness .

Bros . Lewis and Abrahams responded for the Initiates . Bro . I . Zaohrie iu speaking for tho Visitors said it afforded him great pleasure to be present , for two reasons . The first was thafc he had had the pleasure of mooting the VV . M ,, who waa an old and dear friend ; thoy belonged to the same Lodgo many years ago . The second waa to be present ab the initiation of an old friond , Bro . Lewis , whom he had known for many years , and whose career k 3 bad

watched . He was sure that brother would be an ornamenb to tho Lodge . Tho visitors folfc very grateful , for the kind reception fchey had received , aud only hoped they would havo tho opportunity of meeting tho members on many fnture occasions . Several ofcher visitors alao spoke . The W . M . nexfc called upon Brother Da Silva , No . 205 , fco reply on behalf of Bro . Jos . Da Silva P . M ., now absont afc the Cape . Bro . Da Silva tendered hearty thanks , assuring the members that hy would write and inform hia son of tho kindness

with whicn his name had been mentioned . Bro . Hogard , acting l . P . il ., said he felt ifc a great honour when asked bo become a founder of iho Lodge , and a acill greater honour when asked to become th "> I . P . M . right that fche working of the Lodge waa really of a very distinguished character . It was his good fortune to be present at an older Lodge —the Lodge of Israel—when his esteemed Bro . Hogard had a very beautiful present made him for services rendered to that Lodge , and it was his good fortune thafc night to seo him again honoured . Bro . Hogard richly deserved fcho hononrs showered upon him ,

for no man interested himself more than ho in Fresmaaonry , Bro . J . Lowis Thomaa also replied . Bro . Hogard thought they had done full homage to the preliminary toasts ; they had now arrived ab the toasfc of fche evening—fche Health of fcho W . M . They had in their good friend the W . M . an old and tried P . M . of fche Craffc , and one who had done good suit and service , therefore when they elected

him to the chair they elected a brother who knew the proper way to perform the various duties of hia office . The way in which Bro . Jessop had discharged the duties in the Lodge in the various ceremonies , and the way in which he had preaided at the banquet table had equally commended itself to them , for ho united in his own person those two things—the suaviter in inodo and fortiter in re .

He hoped that in their Lodge the VV . M . would never be called upon to exercise fche latter virtue , but should thafc time come ho would do that as well as he had done tho suaviter in modo . Bro . Tho visitors folfc very grateful , for the kind reception fchey had received , aud only hoped they would havo tho opportunity of meeting tho members on many fnture occasions .
