LODGE OF BENEVOLENCE .
THE Lodge of Benevolence met on Wednesday evening ) in the Board Room , Freemasons' Hall . The three chairs were occupied by Bros . J . M . Clabon , Joshua Nunn , ancl James Brett . Bro . John Hervey attended as G . S ., Bro . H . G . Buss as Assistant Grand Secretary , and Bro . A .

E . Frost , J . G . Defries , and many others . The Lodge having confirmed the grants made at the last meeting of the Lodge , to the amount of £ 335 ,
considered the new petitions . There were a smaller number of these on the paper than has been the case for a long while , there being only twelve to be relieved , or considerably less than half the number that the Lodge has
been accustomed to for many months . Out of tho twelve cases , only one did not find a seconder for relief . The remaining eleven had grants made to them , of £ 335 , the highest grant being £ 100 , and the lowest £ 5 . The others received sums of £ 50 , £ 30 , £ 20 , and £ 10 .
The Bayard Royal Arch Chapter , No . 1615 , was consecrated on Saturday , under unusual circumstances . Our readers are aware that in this instance the ordinary rule of not granting a warrant for the formation of a Chapter in connection with a Lodge which had not been three years
in existence was departed from . Bayard Lodge was chartered less than two years since , but its services to Freemasonry have been so great , and its members are so distinguished by their zeal and ability , that a departure from the law was considered justifiable . Thus , on
Saturday , there was a very numerous gathering of R . A . Companions , and the ceremony of consecration was undertaken by Lord Skelmersdale Grand H ., there being likewise present , among others , Colonel Burdett Prov . G . Superintendent Middlesex , Lieut . General Brownrigg
