meet his approval . The duties of Secretary of their Lodge had entailed much work in the past , and it would mean much more if the Lodge went on prospering as it had lately done . Brother Potter was a model Secretary , inasmuch as he never tired of his duties , or neglected any part of them . He seemed willing to give up anything rather than omit to perform any part of the Secretarial work . Tho Master was very pleased indeed to inform Brother

Potter that the Lodge recognised his services , and his manifest desire to carry out all the work of his office . The members felt indeed delighted in making the presentation he was entrustod with , and hoped it would be accepted as a small mark of recognition on the part of the New Concord Lodge . They did not wish Brother Potter to take it for its intriusic worth alone , but rather for what it was intended to imply . Were it possible for Brother Potter to read and hear all the kindly expressions that had been

written or uttered by different members at the time they were asked to subscribe to the testimonial he would indeed be proud , and he would then be convinced of the sincerity of his ( the Master's ) utterances . He trusted that when Bro . Potter or his family used any of the articles included in the presentation they would be reminded how pleasant it was to live to be respected . The presentation was intended to show the regard of the members of the New Concord Lodge , and not only them , but also everyone who knew Bro . Potter .

In addition to tho several articles included in the presentation a handsomely engrossed vellum was handed to Bro . Potter . This latter was to the following effect :

New Concord Lodge , No . 813 . To Bro . Alfred J . Potter P . M . and Sec . We , the Worshipful Mastor , Wardens , Past Masters and Brethren of the New Concord Lodge , desire to convey sentiments of the highest esteem and regard towards you , and further , to express our appreciation of your invaluable services as Secretary of the Lodge and your worth as a Freemason .

We trust the Great Architect of the Universe will spare you for many years , that we may not only have your services as Secretary but your fellowship as a Brother of the Now Concord Lodge . Signed , on behalf of Subscribers , H . Sprake W . M . John Downing I . P . M . H . D . Blake S . W .

THE TELEGRAPH CABLE LODGE , No . 2470 .

IT is always interesting to notice the progress of new Lodges , and as far as possible we endeavour to visit each in turn . Bullock decided to rehearse the ceremony of initiation for the instruction of the Brethren . The ritual was most impressively rendered by the acting W . M ., and able assistance was given by the Officers , the work of Brother W . 0 . Smith as Deacon being especially good .

Bro . W . P . Slater , of tho Brook Lodge , No . 2005 , was received as a Joining Member . Bro . George Jack having accepted the office of Steward for the next Festival of the Boys School , the sum of fifteen guineas was voted from tho Lodge funds to head his list , and it is gratifying to mention that before the Brethren separated upwards ol fcrty-five guineas was ' promised . These facts prove that the Lodge is in a most healthy condition . Upon the conclusion of the business the Lodge was closed in due form , and the Brethren adjourned to dinner , after which a very pleasant evening was spent . o o o
