WE nnderstnnd that all tho necessary arrangements for the Masonic satherinq : at the Mansion House are m a fair way of completion . Ifc has been already announced that these were entrusted to a Committee , consisting of Sir A . W . Woods ( Garter ) , Grand Director of

Ceremonies , Sir John B . Monckton , President of the Board of Genera ] Purposes , and Lient .-Col . Shad well PI . Gierke , Grand Secretary , and we need hardly say that a better selection could not havo been made . The number of

brethren , including the members of Grand Master ' s Lodge , No . 1 , of whioh tlio Lord Mayor is both W . M . and P . M ., will be from 250 to 300 , but amongst these will be included some of the most distinguished representative Masons in the country . Moreover , the Prince of Wales

will be accompanied by both his brothers , the Duke of Connaught P . G . S . W . and Prince Leopold P . P . J . W . and P . G . M . Oxon . It may well be imagined that the number of applications to be present on so interesting an occasion has been very great , amounting , indeed , to several

hundreds . We are not surprised at this , though , at first sight , it seems strange that people should ask to be invited , when , as a matter of course , there will be an extension to all present of that hospitality for which Bro . Lorcl Mayor Truscott has so justly earned a reputation . There have

been many grand gatherings of the brethren in past years , and Princes of the reigning house have taken part in them * , but we are not aware of any occasion on which the Lord Mayor for the time being , and a distinguished Mason , holding high office in Grancl Locige to boot , has Masonically received ancl entertained at his official residence a Prince of

Wales who was also Grand Master of Masons in England . We trust , as indeed we have every reason to anticipate , that everything will pass off as successfully as grand receptions invariably do in the grancl Old City of London .

terms , proposed the health of Comp . Wyer M . E . Z . of the Beadon Chapter , and alluded to the very able manner in which he had dis . charged the duties of exaltation that evening . Tho toast was onthu . siastically received . Tho M . E . Z ., in responding , thanked the Comps . for the very flattering way in which the toast proposed by Comp , Coste had been received by them , and remarked that both in the

Lodge and in tho Chapter ho had , by gradation , served every office , and had now arrived at the summit of his profession . It shonld be his study in tho future , as well as it was iu the past , to di serve their confidence . The M . E . Z . then gave tho health of Comps . 11 . Thompson and P . Sharratt II . and J ., and the former as M . E . Z . elect ; ho had no doubt that they would maintain tho

reputation of tho Beadon Chapter . The toast was well received . Comp . 11 . Thompson , in acknowledging the honour which had been conferred npon them , said ho wished on his own part to thank all for the unanimous way in which they had that night elected him to fill the exalted position of M . E . Z . of the Beadon Chapter . The elevation to that dignity had been more rapid than he expected , for , unlike their

present M . E . Z ., he could not say thafc he had passed through all the subordinate offices , and consequently he had not had the same time for making himself acquainted with the duties he should have to perform . He must , therefore , ask , if they should discover any short , comings on his parfc , that they would grant him their indulgence . A . t the samo timo he could assure them that no effort should he wanting

on his part to give thom satisfaction , and if he failed it would not be from want of inclination , but ability to do so . The M . E . Z . then gave the P . Z . 's of the Chapter , for whioh Comps . Jacobs , Coote , Avory ancl Green severally returnee ! thanks . The next toast was that of the health of their newly-exalted Comp . Wood , the M . E . Z . remarking fchafc this waa a toasfc that was always given with great pleasure , as fchey

required the introduction of new blood to keep up the vitality of the body . Comp . Wood returned thanks for the honour conferred upon him ; he was deeply interested in the ceremony through whioh he had passed , excelling anything he had yet known in Freemasonry . The Visitors was the next toast , for which Comps . Ridley ,

Turner , Godfrey , and Cook responded , each expressing the gratifica . tion he had experienced in visiting the Chapter , not only on account of tho hospitality they had received , but for the admirable working they had witnessed in the Chapter . The Janitor ' s toasfc brought a very harmonious meeting to a close .

St . Aubyn Chapter . —A convocation was held afc the Ebnng . ton Masonic Hall , Devonport , on Monday , 18 th insfc . The ceremony of installation was carried out by E . Metropolitan Chapter ot Improvement . —The first meeting for the season of this Chapter of Improvement was held on Tuesday evening , 12 th October , at the Jamaica Coffee House , St . Michael ' s Alley , and was well attended by some eminent Eoyal Arch Masons . The offices were filled as follow : —Comps . Wyer Z ., Massa H ., Lander J ., Brown Preceptor S . E ., Pennefather P . S ., Webb S . N .,

and Walker candidate . The other Companions present were Higgins , Lilley , H . Thompson , Kirke , Gillard , Brand , J . S . Fraser , W . Fraser , J . Constable , Payne , and Edwards . Tbe ceremony of exaltation was gone throngh , the whole of the work being admirably performed , showing that this Chapter of Improvement still maintains its high

reputation . Comp . W . Fraser , of the Hope and Unity Chapter , No . 214 , was elected a member . The following were the elected Officers for the next two meetings : —Comps . Lefevre Z ., Higgins H ., and Lander J . The meetings of this Chapter will now take place continuously until May next .

It having been thought by a great number of the brethren of this Province thafc some public effort shonld be made to benefit the Devon Masonic Educational Fund , a meeting was convened in Plymouth last evening by Bro . Gover Hon . Secretary , for thafc purpose , and to take into consideration the advisability of holding a concert for the benefit of the Fund . Amongst those present were—Bros . Whittley , Baxter

Cawsey , Powell , Mitchell , Moon , V . Bird Treasurer , Miller , Eendle , Marsh , Davies , Westcott , Lord , Jew , Cross , Goodall , Curteis , and a large number of brethren representing the various Lodges . Tlie Kev . Bro . Whittley was unanimously voted to the chair . Bro . Moon remarked that nothing had been done publicly by the brethren of the Province since the visit of the Prince of Wales Grand Master of

England , ancl it was felt that the presiif'e of a meeting in Masonic clothing , under a dispensation from the E . W . Bro . Viscount Ebring . ton P . G . Master , would ensure a financial success on behalf of the charity ; ancl further that it would recommend itself to the members . He had also communicated with the P . G . Master , who expressed his fullest and warmest sympathy with the Institution , and would do his

utmost to make it a succefs . Bro . Moon also suggested the formation of various Committees necessary for the carrying out of tbe object . It was resolved that a concert be held in tho Guildhall on the 15 th of December , and that the several Committees consist of the following brethren : — Musical Committee—Moon , Eendle , Hole , Binding , and Hoarder .
