METROPOLITAN LODGE , No . 1507 .
THE installation meeting of this Lodge was held on Wednesday , 20 th inst ., at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet-street , London . As usual , the assemblage was a largo one , tho attendance , both of members and visitors , being very great . Bnrstow , E . J . Chant and M . J . Rowley wero severally raised to the degree of Master Mason . Tho report of the Audit Committee was then presented and formally received , after which the W . M . elect , Bro . William Side , was
presented for the benefit of installation . Bro . James Willing jun . P . M . acted as Installing Muster , and proceeded to place Bro . 'Side in the chair of tho Lodgo with the customary formalities . Ho having been saluted , appointed the following brethren as his Officers : —Bros . C . J . Scales Immediate Past Master , W . M . Stiles Senior Warden ,
H . Stiles J . W ., J . Willing jun . P . M . Treas ., J . J . Michael P . M . Sec , II . Lovegrovo S . D ., G . Clark J . D ., T . Gilbert jnn . I . G ., J . Daly Tyler . A Past Master ' s jewel was presented to the retiring Master by Bro . Side , who , in asking Bro . Scales to accept the gift , as a memento of his term of office , complimented him on the way in which the Locige had been carried on during tho past year , Bro . Scales suitably
acknowledged tho gift . Tho efficiency of the newly-appointed Officers was soon to bo put to the test , for four gentlemen ( Messrs . H . Y . Carter , Henry Georgo Gent , James William Tubby and William P . Botly ) offered themselves for initiation ; thoy wero afc once introduced , and tho ceremony worked , to their benefit , the W . M . and his assistants proving themselves < m fait in their duties . A proposition ,
standing in tho namo of Bro . Michael , for the purpose of increasing the annual subscription , was thou brought forward . Bro . Michael explained the reasons which had led him to make the proposal , and pointed out tho desirability there was for the alteration . Bro . Willing seconded the proposition , which was eventually carried , but not until . the pros and cons of tho case had heen
argued with somo spirit . Bro . VV . B . Clarke especially threw all his energy into tho discussion , and that too in a way whioh few others aro capable of—indeed , we doubt if many Lodges can boast such a champion of their rights as can the Metropolitan in the person of Bro . Clarke . The Secretary then read a letter he had received from tho daughter of a late mernbor , whose recent death had loft his widow and
family in great distress ; a proposition was made , and unanimously carried , that the sum of ten guineas bo voted from the Lodge towards relieving their present needs . Tho names of two gentlemen as candidates for initiation were then handed in , after which Lodge was closed , and the brethren proceeded to the banquet hall , where a first-class repast awaited them . As usual , the Bros . Clemow personally

The brethren had , he said , seen that night how capable Bro . Side was to fulfil the duties of the chair . Ho had acquitted himself most efficiently , both in Lodge and at the banquet table . The toast mot a hearty
reception , ancl the W . M . m reply said he folt it impossible to find words to express his thoughts ; ho was gratified boymid measure at tho reception that had heen accorded him , and hoped ho shonld prove himself fit for the oflieo he had undertaken . It would be his constant endeavour to advance the interests of the Craft , and of tho Metropolitan Lodgo in particular . Ho was proud of being Master of
so distinguished a Lodge , and felt the brethren must participate in the gratification ho experienced in being connected with a Lodge held in such high reputation ns was the Metropolitan . No effort should be wanting on his part to render his torm of office a success . He next proposed the health of tho Past Masters . The brethren , having just had twelve months' experience of the I . P . M . ' s capabilities , were well
able to judge for themselves of tho qualities he possessed . No brother could have taken a greater interest in promoting the welfare of tho Lodge than he had done , and they could look back with pleasure to the evenings they had spent under his presidency ; the W . M . referred , in a few well chosen words , to each of tho other Past Masters who were present . Bro . Scales heartily thanked tho
brethren for their good feeling towards him , and for the handsome jewel they had presented him in the Lodge . Bro . Jas . Willing assured tho brethren that the samo spirit animated him as animated the other I ast Masters , who wero ono and all desirous to do all they could for the benefit of the Lodge . They
had witnessed the growth of the Lodge from insignificance to a position among tho proudest of any iu England , ancl it was but naturnl they should feel a pride in seeing the good work continued . Comfort was examined , entrusted , and retired , and the Lodge having been opened in the third degree , he was raised to the sublime degree of M . M . Bro . Moody then expressed his sincere thanks to the W . M . for his conrtesy in having allowed him to
perform the ceremony , as well as to the brethren for their attention to the work . Lodge having been closed in the third and second , and work resumed in tho first , the chair was taken by Bro . Dolley I . P . M ., when Bro . Davey having been examined and entrusted , Lodge was re-advanced to the second degree , and he was passed to thnfc of Fellow Craffc . Locige having heen resumed to the first
two propositions were submitted by the Wor . Master , and seconded by Bro . C . Galpin , after which Bro . Moody , having obtained the permission of the W . M . to offer a few remarks , earnestly recommended the brethren to attend as frequently as possible the Lodge of Insti notion connected with the parent Lodge , which , be said , met every alternate Tuesday at the New Tun , Hall-street . Lodge was then closed , after hearty good wishes from the Visitors . After
supper the usual Loyal and Masouic toasts were given , Bros . Hodgson ( Tenor , Magdalen College ) and Mills-Parker contributing greatly to tho harmony of the evening , while Bro . Moody gave a very effective recitation of Othello ' s Apology . It should be added that Bro . Bowdou P . P . G . P . responded for tho toast of tho Prov . G . Officers , ancl Bros . Bowden and Green for that of the Visitors . The toast of the W . M . 's health was , as usual , most warmly received .

Skollard S . W ., C . J . Innes S . D ., T . B . Linscotfc J . D ., A . L . Jeffries I . G ., John Greenfield 1602 D . C , Nowell Tyler . The principal businoss was the installation of Bro . P . M . Finch , the l . G . of this Lodge , as
W , M ., and tho investiture of the Officers as above . The ceremony of installation was powerfully and impressively performed by Bro . Allen P . M . 173 , who attended with a large number of brethren from fcho Phoenix Lodge , fco render to Bro . Finchall the honour tbey could upon this occasion , and to show the way in which he is admired ancl loved by the brethren of his mother Lodge . Bro . Allen was
subsequently unanimously elected a member of the Lodge . There were present the following P . M . ' s of the Locige , viz ., Foulger , Hodges , and Harvey , with many visitors , including Bro . Weaver P . M . 820 . Lodge was closed in due form , when the brethren had an opportunity of enjoying the lovely scenery in the neighbourhood , and afterwards met at a banquet , served by Bro . Deacon in his well-known style . The
usual toasts were given , and the health of the I . P . M . Bro . Sharpe was proposed by P . M . Foulger , and drunk , in his unavoidable absence , through sickness , for which much regret was expressed by the members of the Lodge , by whom he is universally beloved . Bro . J . Greenfield responded for Bro . P . M . Sharpe , claiming a right to do so as a friend of many years' standing . The brethren returned to town by
an early train , in saloon carriages provided by the Great Western Railway Company , who invariably do all in their power to study the comfort of the brethren of this admirably conducted Lodge , to which it is expected there will be n , considerable influx of joining members from No . 173 and No . 180 , several members of those Lodges having expressed their intention of joining before next May meeting .
Wellington Lodge of Instruction , Wo . 548 . —Members of the Craft assembled in considerable number at the White Swan Hotel , High-street , Deptford , on Monday , the 18 th inst ., to witness tho working of the Fifteen Sections hy the members .
