HOTSPUR LODGE , No . 135 . ON Wednesday afternoon , the 16 th instant , the installation meeting was held in the Freemasons' Hall , Alnwick . The W . M . Bro . A . S . Cockburn presided . The Deputy Provincial Graud Master Bro . C . B . Reed and the Officers of Provincial Graud Lodge were received in due form by the brethren . The ceremony of installing Bro . A . J . Main as W . M . was then proceeded with .
Dr . Main having been presented by Bro . A . S . Cockburn W . M ., the ceremony of installing him in the chair was impressively performed by Bro . R . B . Reed . Tho W . CONSTANTINE LODGE , No . 145 . ON Wednesday , the 16 th inst ., Lord Henniker , as Provincial Grand Master of tho Mark Masons of East Anglia ( which comprises the counties of Essex , Suffolk , Norfolk , and Cambridgeshire ) visited Colchester for the purpose of being present at the installation mooting of this Lodge . His Lordship reached Colchester from Thornham Hall , Eye , by the 4 * 38 train , and was met at Colchester station by Bros . Welch and Bailey P . M . ' s of tho Constantino Lodge , and by
them escorted to the Lodge-room , where his lordship was mot by the Rev . 0 . J . Martyn D . P . G . M ., and Bro . N . Tracy the P . G . Secretary . A large number of brethren were present in tho Lodge , and Lord Henniker and his Deputy , wore received with the honours due to their exalted rank . The principal bnsiness of tho meeting was the installation of Bro . William Sowman S . W ., as Worshipful Master
for the ensuing year , which ceremony was ably performed by Bro . Tracy , and as ably assisted by Bro . J . P . Lewin Treasurer of tho Constantine Lodge . The Officers for the year wero invested , as under : —Geo . A . Eustace I . P . M ., R . D . Poppleton S . W ., Arthur H . Bowles J . W ., tho Rov . W . Morgan Jones M . O ., H . J . Skingley S . At the conclusion of tho Lodge business , the Worshipful Master proposed a hearfcy voto of thauka to Lord Henniker for his kindness in honouring the Lodgo by a visit .
The motion was seconded by tho Treasurer of the Lodgo Bro . Lowin , and carried by acclamation . Lord Henniker , in responding , thanked the Brethren for their hearty reception . He was glad to havo the opportunity of visiting tho Constantino Lodge , which ho was happy to know was one of the strongest and boat worked in his Province , and he congratulated the Installing Masters upon the ability thoy
had displayed in conducting the ceremony of tho day . He waa glad to be supported by his dear old friend Bro . Martyn , aud said that their joint aim was to do all they could to promote tho good of Mark Masonry in East Anglia . Thanks were also accorded to Bro . the Rev . C J . Martyn for his attendance , and to tho Installing Masters for the able manner in which they had carried out their work .
Before the Lodge was closed Bro . A . J . H . Ward ( Town Clerk of Harwich ) presented a potitiou , for the recommendation ofthe Lodge , for tho formation of a Mark Lodge at Harwich . This having been signed by the W . M . and principal-Officers , Lord Henniker attached his signature , saying he should have great pleasure in recommending the petition to the favourable consideration of the M . W . G . M .
Subsequently between 40 and 50 brethren dined together at the George Hotol , under tho presidency of the W . M ., who was supported by Lord Henniker , the Rev . C . J . Martyn , Bro . Tracy , and other distinguished brethren . In proposing Lord Honniker ' s health , the W . M . alluded to the fact that it was mainly through tho good oflices of his Lordship that H . R . H . the Prince of Wales had joined this
branch of Freemasonry , and was now their Grand Master . In responding , Lord Henniker said that , being a resident in the Eastern Counties , he had , he supposed , passed throngh Colchester thousands of times , but had only been in the town on two occasions—in 188 * t , " when he held his Provincial Grand Lodge , and on tho present occasion . All he could say was that these two visits had been very agreeable ones , and he should always look back on them with groat
pleasure . At tho time that ho had the bonour of occupying tho post •) f Graud Master of this degree it progressed by leaps and bounds , and although at the present time they had fallen npon quieter times , Still he was happy to know that the Mark degree was flourishing , and nowhere more than his Province o £ East Anglia . by acknowledging the groat assistance he received in ruling the Province from Bro . Martyn hia Deputy , and Bro . Tracy the P . G . Secretary . His Lordship shortly afterwards left the Lodge , amidst bhe hearty plaudits of the Brethren , and proceeded by the 7 * 50 train to town .

are based , than myself . I am therefore compelled to decline to enter into further controversy throngh the medium of your journal . I am directed to inform you that the books and accounts will be
