MACDONALD LODGE , No . 120 R . THE installfltion mooting of this Lodge was held at tho Lodgo Rooms , afc Headquarters of the First Surrey Volunteer Rifles , at Camberwell , on Thursday , the 12 th inst ., when a largo attendance of members and visitors tos'ifiod to the interest , taken in tho continued progress of tho Macdonald . The Great City , and Burcham Cooper of the Ivy 1111 . After the confirmation of minutes , and the passing to the F . C . degree of the initiates in attendance , Bro . D . A . Ross the W . M . elect was presented to the W . M ., Bro . W . C Hale , for installation , and in due course was p laced in tho chair of K . S . by his immediate predecessor . The newly installed Master appointed his Officers in rotation , and Bro . Past

Master Bridges having delivered the customary addresses , the proceedings connected with the installation ceremony were completed . The Auditors' report met with n favourable reception , tho balance in favour of the Lodge being considered most satisfactory . Aftor the despatch of some routine business , the W . M . announced to the brethren that ho had made arrangements for tho banquet to take place

at the Bridge House Hotel , instead of tho largo Mess-room attached to Headquarters , and he fully explained his reasons for this departure from former custom , and satisfied his hearers that his reasons wore good and sufficient . Consequently , on the closing of the Lodge , each brother present declared his agreement with the Worshipfnl Master by accepting tho accommodation provided in the conveyances then

in waiting , and by means of which they speedily reached the banquetroom , prepared for them by Messrs . Roberts . We mnst candidly admit that , notwithstanding the hitherto good repute in whiph the festive gatherings of the Macdonald in their "Mess-room" have always been held , the contrast on this occasion , having regard to display and service , was greatly in favour of the view taken by the

new W . M . that change was necessary . At all events , a more elaborate menu , with excellent wines and liberal attendance , conld not have been desired , and the proprietors of the Hotel deserved the expressions of satisfaction which their efforts to plenso called forth . After clearance of the cloth , the W . M . gave the usual Loyal nnd Masonic toasts , his remarks being greatly assisted by the appropriate

Shakspearian quotations with which the menu card was liberally besprinkled . These were not of the usual character , hut appeared to be a perfectly now series , and the result of much research on tho part of the compiler , who , it was whispered , wns the Worshi pfnl Master himself . Whether that be so or not , the work was very creditable . The toast of the Worshipfnl Master was enthusiastically

received , and in a manner which testified to his popularity . In reply , the Worshipfnl Master again referred to the departure from former usage in leaving the Lodge rooms for a distant hotel , and his remarks called forth a further endorsement of tho policy he had adopted . The Visitors , in responding for the compliment paid to them , also expressed their conviction that the best interests of tho Lodge would be advanced by the new arrangement . The customary

acknowledgments of services of Fast Masters and Officers were made , and duly responded to . The proceedings of a delightful evening wero interspersed by excellent singing and recitals , amongst which may be particularl y noticed the recitation by Past Master James Stevens ( the originator of the Lodge ) of the admirable Masonic poem ' Masons' Vow « , " which he appears to havo made quite his own . With the T yler ' s toasfc this most enjoyable gathering came to a conclusion at a reasonable hour .

' PHE installation meeting of this very flourishing Chapter was - held at the Terminus Hotel , Southend-on-Sen , on Wednesday , the 18 th inst . Excellent Companion Rev . H . J . Hatch M . E . Z . presided at the opening of the Chapter . The preliminary business being completed , Bro . Dr . Thomas King , M . D ., P . M . 160 P . P . G . P . Essex ,

was duly exalted to the supreme degree . After the delivery of the three lectures , Excellent Companion James Terry P . Z . 174 P . G . D . C . Herts proceeded to instal the Principals for the ensuing year , viz .: — Companions W . Pissey M . E . Z ., E . Judd H ., Dr . J . F . Jones J . At the conclusion a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Bro . Tony for nis able and impressive rendering of the ceremonies . The following

THE installation meeting was held on Tuesday , at the Assembly Rooms , Bognor , when tho retiring W . M . Bro . R . Talmy Turner installed , as his successor in tho chair , Bro . Arthur Smith Prov . G . Steward . Bro . A . Smith , who is an enthusiastic and efficient Mason , served last year , with much distinction , as W . M . of tho Union Lodge , No . 38 , Chichester . Having returned thanks for the election to tho

S . Swersee , No . 185 , were raised to the sublime degree ( tho latter by the courtesy of the W . M . ) It was a pleasure to listen to the working of the W . M ., whose perfect and impressive rendering of the ceremonies has rarely beeu excelled ; the traditional history was given in full . The resignation of Bro . Nathan was accepted , with regret . Lodge was then closed until October . The brethren sat down to a

sumptuous banquet and dessert , provided by Bro . Nicols , and superintended by Bro . Silver . The W . M ., in proposing the toast of Her Most Gracious Majesty , alluded to her having attained her 62 nd birthday , and hoped that she might continue to reign for many years . The National Anthem was sung . Iu proposing the toast of the D . G . M . and the rest of tlio Grand Officers of tho Grancl Lodge of England , the W . M .

spoko oi the honour conferred upon Bro . Prince Leopold in creating him Duke of Albany ; he must not forget , however , that fchey had a Grand Officer present , Bro . E . P . Albert Past Grand Pursuivant , in whom this Lodge is honoured , in having him for one of its Officers . After a response from Bro . E . P . Albert , the W . M . proposed the toast of the Visiting Brethren . There were many present , and he

would be pleased to hear any remarks each or any might make . In responding , several of tho guests paid great compliments to the W . M . for the able manner in which the ceremonies had been performed , and the genial presidency he displayed ; while the efficient manner in which tho Officers carried out the business of the Lodge left nothing to bo desired . Bro . L . J . Salomons I . P . M . then rose to

propose the health of tho W . M . The expressions given utterance to by the visiting brethren had taken the words out of his mouth . However , the P . M . ' s felt thoy all owed him a debt of gratitude for the way he had filled the chair . One and all were proud of him . The W . M . said he felt gratified to hear the compliments paid him ; he hoped he had done some service for the brethren ; this assurance

would be a sufficient incentive to him to do anything for the Lodge and for the Craft in general . The Lodge would nofc meet again until October , when ho hoped the brethren would assemble in health and prosperity . Tho Past Masters was next given ; they had been tried , and never been found wanting . Bro . L . J . Salomons is one who has gained the good will and the approbation of the Lodge . Bro . Albert

held three positions ; he is a P . G . P ., a P . M . of the Lodge , and its Sec , and the members owe him a debt of gratitude . Bros . Grunbaum , Chevalier S . Pollitzer , and Gulliford , had all done their duty . Bro . L . J . Salomons I . P . M . responded j he could hardly find language to speak after tho kind words of the W . M . The services of the Past Masters wero always at command . Bro . Gulliford followed . Tho

W . M . had spoken of the excellent working of the King ' s Cross Lodge of Instruction ; he might add it stood second to none in the Craft . The W . M . then proposed the toasfc of the Wardens , Secretary , Treasurer , and the Junior Officers , and made especial reference to the valuable services rendered by Bro . P . E . Van Noorden . Bro . Syer S . W . iu brief and eloquent terms responded , and then the Tyler's

toast was given , concluding a very agreeable and harmonious evening . The W . M . provided an excellent musical melange , under the direction of Bro P . E . "Van Noorden . Miss Florence Dysartand Bro . P . E . Van Noorden sung a very effective duet . Bros . Lindsay Sloper , Dr . Chandler , and Davis contributed to tho harmony . Bro . W . H . Gulliford displayed great care ancl attention for the comforts of the brethren .

At the Leeds Town Hall no less than 10 , 000 persons attended the three successive recitals on the grand organ , " In memoriam , the Earl of Beaconsfiehl , " by the Corporation organist , Dr . Spark , who also produced a new / and effective funeral march for the occasion , which has just been pnblished and appropriately dedicated to Mrs . Blagden , wife of the Vicar of Hnghonden . This lady , it will be remembered , plavcd the music afc the funeral service of the lat « Earl .

S . Swersee , No . 185 , were raised to the sublime degree ( tho latter by the courtesy of the W . M . ) It was a pleasure to listen to the working of the W . M ., whose perfect and impressive rendering of the ceremonies has rarely beeu excelled ; the traditional history was given in full . The resignation of Bro . Nathan was accepted , with regret . Lodge was then closed until October . The brethren sat down to a

sumptuous banquet and dessert , provided by Bro . Nicols , and superintended by Bro . Silver . The W . M ., in proposing the toast of Her Most Gracious Majesty , alluded to her having attained her 62 nd birthday , and hoped that she might continue to reign for many years . The National Anthem was sung . Iu proposing the toast of the D . G . M . and the rest of tlio Grand Officers of tho Grancl Lodge of England , the W . M .

spoko oi the honour conferred upon Bro . Prince Leopold in creating him Duke of Albany ; he must not forget , however , that fchey had a Grand Officer present , Bro . E . P . Albert Past Grand Pursuivant , in whom this Lodge is honoured , in having him for one of its Officers . After a response from Bro . E . P . Albert , the W . M . proposed the toast of the Visiting Brethren . There were many present , and he

would be pleased to hear any remarks each or any might make . In responding , several of tho guests paid great compliments to the W . M . for the able manner in which the ceremonies had been performed , and the genial presidency he displayed ; while the efficient manner in which tho Officers carried out the business of the Lodge left nothing to bo desired . Bro . L . J . Salomons I . P . M . then rose to

propose the health of tho W . M . The expressions given utterance to by the visiting brethren had taken the words out of his mouth . However , the P . M . ' s felt thoy all owed him a debt of gratitude for the way he had filled the chair . One and all were proud of him . The W . M . said he felt gratified to hear the compliments paid him ; he hoped he had done some service for the brethren ; this assurance

would be a sufficient incentive to him to do anything for the Lodge and for the Craft in general . The Lodge would nofc meet again until October , when ho hoped the brethren would assemble in health and prosperity . Tho Past Masters was next given ; they had been tried , and never been found wanting . Bro . L . J . Salomons is one who has gained the good will and the approbation of the Lodge . Bro . Albert

held three positions ; he is a P . G . P ., a P . M . of the Lodge , and its Sec , and the members owe him a debt of gratitude . Bros . Grunbaum , Chevalier S . Pollitzer , and Gulliford , had all done their duty . Bro . L . J . Salomons I . P . M . responded j he could hardly find language to speak after tho kind words of the W . M . The services of the Past Masters wero always at command . Bro . Gulliford followed . Tho

W . M . had spoken of the excellent working of the King ' s Cross Lodge of Instruction ; he might add it stood second to none in the Craft . The W . M . then proposed the toasfc of the Wardens , Secretary , Treasurer , and the Junior Officers , and made especial reference to the valuable services rendered by Bro . P . E . Van Noorden . Bro . Syer S . W . iu brief and eloquent terms responded , and then the Tyler's

toast was given , concluding a very agreeable and harmonious evening . The W . M . provided an excellent musical melange , under the direction of Bro P . E . "Van Noorden . Miss Florence Dysartand Bro . P . E . Van Noorden sung a very effective duet . Bros . Lindsay Sloper , Dr . Chandler , and Davis contributed to tho harmony . Bro . W . H . Gulliford displayed great care ancl attention for the comforts of the brethren .

At the Leeds Town Hall no less than 10 , 000 persons attended the three successive recitals on the grand organ , " In memoriam , the Earl of Beaconsfiehl , " by the Corporation organist , Dr . Spark , who also produced a new / and effective funeral march for the occasion , which has just been pnblished and appropriately dedicated to Mrs . Blagden , wife of the Vicar of Hnghonden . This lady , it will be remembered , plavcd the music afc the funeral service of the lat « Earl .
