The report of the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company , to bo presented to the meeting on tho 8 th June , states , that owing to a reduction in the mail subsidies and a decrease in the receipts on the lines to and from Bombay , the result of tho operations of the half-year i 3 ! c ; : s favourable than for many years past .
After deducting from tho revenue the current expenditure , and adding the usual reserves for depreciation and insurance , there remains a profit on the working account , but not such as to justify the directors iu recommending the paymout of an interim dividend .
