A great many liberal-minded persons , however , of various religious persuasions , crowded the church , as much to assist the objects of an Asylum , which has been , during the last fifty years , the means of training up a number of poor girls in habits of industry and in the knowledge and practice of the Christian reli gion , as well as to express their respect for the universal principles of an Institution which , in the words of Dr . Anster ,
