John the Baptist , tbe Brethren of the Masonic 1 . odge " Himalayan Brotherhood , " clothed in their peculiar costume , and decorated with their jewels , walked in procession from the Lodge-rooms to the Station Church , preceded by a band of music , which was obligingly lent them for the occasion . On arrival at the church door the Brethren entered in reversed order . The church was filled bladies and gentlemen who had
asy sembled for the purpose of witnessing the procession , and of joining in the solemn service of the clay , which was performed by the Rev . Mr . Tucker . The Rev . Gentleman , although labouring under indisposition , in compliance ivith the request of the Brethren , kindly preached an eloquent discourse , taking for his text , v . 17 , c . ii ., 1 st Epist . Gen . of Peter . AVe regret our inability to do justice to the impressive manner in which Mr . Tucker illustrated his text , ancl enforced the necessity of practising
charity towards our fellow-creatures . After service , a collection was made by the Masonic Brethren , in behalf of the local charities of Simla . Tbey returned to the Lod ge-rooms in the same order as before . Thus closed the first Masonic procession on the Himalaya mountains . On the evening of the same day , the Brethren , consisting of the gentlemen in the civil , military and uncovenahted services of the Honourable Companyas well as otherswith their guestssat clown to
, , , a sumptuous dinner , at which the utmost harmony prevailed ; and the f ' 'feast of reason and flow of soul" did not terminate till " high twelve , " when the Brethren departed to their homes , delighted with then- evening ' s entertainment , the rain pouring in torrents over the heads of some ivho were too eager to creep into bed . The extensive wall under process of construction , shuts out from view the Golgotha , which has so long disfigured this otherwise pleasant and healthy spot .
