brother , Thos . Edward While ; his nephew , Thomas Reynolds White , P . G . I ) . ; and his great nephew , Thns . W . White , were all initiated in the Kmulation , which , can thus boast of having had on its roll of members representatives of four generations of thc
same family . What is still more noteworthy is , that from thr initiation ef the first of the four—Bro . W . White—in 1770 , to the death in iSCfiof Bro . W . IT . White , his son , there elapsed a period of no less then ninety and sis years . ,
( g ) Bro . Dr . R . P . Crucehx , born 111 1797 . After his initiation in the Burlington he joined Ihe Bank of Fngland Lodge , and was elected its Worshipful . Master in 1 S 32 . In 1 S 34 , he became editor of the "Freemasons' Quarterly Review , " which ollice , liowever , he resigned in 1 S 40 . He was
appointed a Granel Deacon in 1 S 36 , but in consequence of some serious disputes which arose between him and others , he was in 1 . S 40 suspended for six months from all his Alasonic functions and privileges . Thc differences , however , were put an end to . It is to his initiative that the Craft in Fngland
is indebted for the establishment of what is now the Koyal . Masonic Benevolent Institution , the youngest , but nrit the least useful , of our three Charitable Institutions . It was be who advocated the original plan for the
erection of an asylum for aged and decayed Alasons , and before hisdeath , which occurred at Bath on February 25 , 1 S 50 . he had the satisfaction of knowing that his wishes had been carried into effect . He was a great friend of the late Dr . Oliver .
(/_) Grand Lodge of Missouri bason its roll some 494 lodges , with an estimated membership of neaily 23 , 000 brethren . ( i ) H . R . H . Augustus Frederick , Duke of Sussex , sixth son of George III ., was born 1773 , and initiated into Freemasonry in Berlin in 17118 . On the death , in
1 S 12 , of Sir Peter Parker , D . G . Alaster , Grand Alaster , George Prince of Wales , appointed him his successor , and when the Prince Regent resigned the Grand Alastersliip he was succeeded in that office by the Duke of Sussex , who was formally installed by his brother , the Duke of Kent , on May
12 , 1 S 13 , at Willis's Rooms , St . James's . Later in the same year , owing to the wise efforts of the Dukes of Kent and Sussex and the Karl of Moira the schism which had so long divided English Masonry into two hostile camps was healed . The articles of Union were signed at Kensington Palace on
November 27 , and ratified at a meeting of the two Grand Loelges on December 1 . On December 27 a general assembly of the whole Craft was held , and on the motion of the Dukeof Kent , duly seconded and unanimously carried , the Duke of Sussex was installed Grand Alaster of the L'nited Grand Lodge .
( j ) H . R . H . Prince of Wales was initiated into Freemasonry in Sweden in 1 SOS . In iSfiej the rank of Past Grand Alaster was bestowed on him . In 1 S 74 , on the resignation of the Alarquis of Ripon , he accepted the ollice of Grand Alaster , and
was installed into ollice the year following , as stated in the Calendar . It is a singular coincidence that this glorious event should have occurred on the very day on which , 137 years previously , the famous Bull of Pope Clement XII . had been fulminated against Freemasonry .
