Bro . Delves then proceeded to render the three ancient charges in a very effective manner , thereby acquiting himself of the entire ceremony in a satisfactory and able manner . Bros . Finch , P . AL , ably supported him as D . C ; Fisher , P . AL , as S . VV . ; Hodges , P . AL , as J . VV . ; and C . Searell , I . G ., until the appointment of oflicers . After Bro . Delves had received the congratulation of the

brethren , the business of the Iodge was next proceeded with , when the Auditors' report was received and unanimously adopted , it showing a highly favourable financial position , and that , too , after voting substantial amounts to the Charities , which good work was further continued by a sum of £ 31 being unanimously voted towards Bro . J . Delves ' , P . AL , list , in addition to a previous grant of thirty

guineas . The W . AL next invested Bro . Millington , l . P . AL , with a Past Alaster's jewel , voted by the lodge iu recognition of his valuable services as W . AL " Bro . Millington briefly returned thanks , and said he should value the kind gift of the lodge all his life , and hoped to be spared many years to render any assistance

which might be required of him by the Corinthian Lodge . Other business havingbeen concluded , including "Hearty good wishes" to the new W . AL from the formidable array of visitors , lodge was closed and the brethren sat down in an adjoining apartment , elegantly arranged , to a capitally served banquet . Ample justice having been done to the good cheer , the W . AL , at a somewhat advanced hour , gave the toast of

"The Queen , alluding to the diabolical attempt which had been made upon Her Majesty ' s life . He was sure all Masons would join in thanking the G . A . O . T . U . for saving Her Alajesty from the assassin's hand . He coupled with the Queen the Craft . "His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales" was next toasted , followed by " The Earl of Carnarvon , Pro G . AL ; the Earl of Lathom , Dep . G . AL ; and the rest of the Grand

Officers , Present and Past . " Bro . Alillington , l . P . AL , next gave "The VV . AI . " in brief and suitable terms , after which the charity-box was passed round the table , and the W . AL . had the pleasure of announcing that its contents were £ 1 13 s . The W . AI . next returned thanks , alluding to the welfare of the lodge , which he pledged himself most heartily to

work for , and bespeaking from his officers that support which was so necessary to the well-being of the lodge . The remaining toasts were given somewhat out of the intended order , as , owing to the early departure of the last train , many of the brethren and visitors were compelled to

leave . The following were given : "The I . P . AI . ; " "The Visitors , " numerously responded to ; " The Past Alaster ;" " The Installing Master , " replied to by Bro . Delves ; " The Alasonic Institutions ; " "The Officers ; " and the Tyler's toast brought a most memorable and successful meeting to

a close . The proceedings were interspersed with some excellent vocal music , which greatly added to the enjoyment .

HEMMING LODGE ( No . 1512 ) . —This lodge held its last regular meeting of the season at the Red Lion Hotel , Hampton , on the 16 th ult ., when there were present Bros . T . C . Walls , P . P . G . S . B . Aliddx ., VV . AI . ; Hiscox , S . W . ; Moody , J . W . ; Jcssett , acting l . P . AL ; E . Hopwood , P . P . G . S . B . Aliddx ., Treas . ; VV . Hammond , P . P . G . D . Aliddx ., Sec ; Davey , J . D . ; Honeywell , Org . ;

J . Hammond , P . P . G . D . Middx ., P . AL , acting I . G . ; Jackson , A . W . S . ; and Gilbert , Tyler . The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed , Bro . H . Wheatley was duly raised to the Degree of M . M . The election of VV . AI . then took place , and resulted unanimously in favour of Bro . Hiscox . VV . Bro . E . Hopwood was also unanimously re-elected

Treasurer , and Bro . Gilbert re-elected Tyler . The sum of ten guineas was voted to Bro . Ockenden , as Steward of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , 1 SS 2 . A Past Alaster ' s jewel having been unanimously voted to the retiring W . AL , Bro . Jessett gave a notice of motion : That , in accordance with former precedents , the sum of ten fjuineas should be voted to one of the three Alasonic Charities , the particular Institution to be chosen by the W . AL , and the donation to

stand in his name . Several communications having been read , H 12 lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to a well-served collation . The customary Royal and Craft toasts followed . VV . Bro . F . Honeywell acknowledged the toast of " The Provincial Grand Officers . " "Thc Health of the VV . AI . " was kindly and flatteringlv

proposed by the Secretary . The VV . AI . having replied , then gave "The VV . AI . Elect . " Bro . Hiscox having suitably responded , " The Health of the Past Masters " followed . This toast was coupled with the name of Bro . Jessett , who briefly acknowledged the compliment .

" The Treasurer and Secretary came next in order , and drew from those brethren able but modest replies . "The Alasonic Charities " was then given . In proposing this toast , the W . M . drew the attention of thc brethren to the fact that Bto . Ockenden had been elected to represent the lodge as Steward to the Royal Masonic Institution

for Boys 1 S 82 , when he ( the VV . AI . ) hoped that Bro . Ockenden would be well supported by his brethren of No . 1512 . " The Health of the Officers , " coupled with the names of Bros . Aloody , Davey , and Honeywell , brought the proceedings to a conclusion .

STUART LODGE ( No . 1623 ) . —The installation meeting of this Iodge was held at the Surrey Masonic Hall , Camberwell , on Alonday , the 27 th ult . M ., Sec , as Installing Alaster , then most ably installed Bro . Geo . Lilley into the chair of K . S . His needless to say that the admirably efficient manner in which the beautiful ceremony was rendered by Bro . Poore called forth expressions of great satisfaction from the numerous

brethren who were on this occasion the guests of thelodge . The newly-installed W . AL gave _ proofs of his proficiency by his forcible addresses to thc officers , whom he appointed and invested in rotation , and there being no further business before the Iodge , it was closed in due form . A choice banquet followed labour , and the customary toasts were highly , but pertinently , given by the VV . AI . In the course of the evening a very handsome P . AI . ' s jewel

was presented to the l . P . AL , Bro . Donald Clark . To the toast of "The Visitors " several responses were made , the guests vieing with each other in their expressions of great satisfaction with both labour and refreshment . An excellent programme of music and recitations was fully cartied through , and especial reference may be made to the successful recent efforts of Bros . Chapman , R . I .

Taylor , Bannister , and C . VV . Evans , and the recitations by Bros . James Stevens ( " Alasons' Vows" ) and J . VV . Chapman . A most enjoyable evening and one greatly redounding to the credit of the Stuart Lodge was spent by all present , and the installation of Bro . Lilley as the VV . AI . for the ensuing year is not likely to be soon forgotten . It speaks well for that brother that so many members of the lodge held at his hotel at Balham attended to support him on this occasion .

WOLSEY LODGE ( No . 1656 ) . —The installation meeting of this lodge was held on the 13 th ult . at the White Hart Hotel , Hampton Wick . Among those in attendance were Bros . B . R . Aston , W . Henry James Bond was most ably inducted into Craft mysteries by Bro . J . Hammond . The report of the Audit Committee having been received and adopted , Bro . John Hurst was impressively installed into the chair of K . S . by Bro . Ockenden . The officers were then invested as follows : Bros . Walls , S . VV . ; Featherstone ,

j AV . ; Rev . C . de Crespigny , Chap , ( by deputy ); A Nuthall , Treas . ; Ockenden , Sec ; Forge , S . D . ; Filler , J . D . ; Duffell , I . G . ; Honeywell , Org . ( by deputy ); Worthington , M . C ; Chandler , W . S . ; and Gilbert , Tyler . The concluding portion of the installation ceremony , namely , the addresses , was performed by Bro . Ockenden in a manner that left nothing to be desired . To mark the members appreciation of his services a unanimous vote of

thanks was passed and ordered to be entered on the minutes . The sum of five guineas was voted to the R . W . P . G . M . as a lodge contribution to his list as Steward of the province for the festival of the Royal Alasonic Institution for Girls . Communications from Bros . De Crespigny , VV . Hammond , Baldwin , Honeywell , and others having been read , and a P . M . 's jewel presented to Bro . Aston , l . P . AL , the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to banquet .

As the cloth was not removed until a late hour , the toasts were somewhat curtailed . The toast of "The Grand Officers "was coupled with the name of VV . Bro . Levander , who made an excellent speech in response . "The Health of the Provincial Grand Officers" was connected with the name of VV . Bro . J . Hammond , who ,

in brief but fluent terms , duly acknowledged the compliment . "The VV . M . " followed . This pledge was given in a humourous vein by the l . P . AL , and it met with a very warm recognition . Bro . Hurst having modestly replied , the toast of " The Initiate" came next in order .

Bro . Bond having responded , the VV . M . proposed , in very cordial terms , "The Health of the Visitors , " to which important toast Bros . Noble , Kentish , and Alarvin suitably responded . " The Past Alasters " followed , and , in reply , Bro . Aston made a witty speech , which excited the risibilities of his auditory .

In proposing "The Health of the Treasurer and Secretary , " the W . AL dwelt at length upon the manifold good qualities of the two brethren occupying those positions . He specially thanked the latter for the very able way in which he had inducted him into the chair that evening , and which performance he remarked would not have disgraced a well-skilled veteran of the Craft .

Bros . Nuthall and Ockenden having briefly replied , the toast of " The Officers , " coupled with thc names of Bros . Walls and Featherstone , ' who responded , brought the proceedings to a conclusion .

FARRINGDON WITHOUT LOD 3 E ( No . 1745 ) . —This representative lodge met for the despatch of business on the 27 th ult . Among those present were Bros . IT . ) . Lardner , VV . Clark , G . P ., one of the honorary members of the lodge , having been proposed as a subscribing member , the lodge was duly closed and adjourned . There was no banquet .

GATESHEAD-ON-TYNE . —Lodge of Industry ( No . 4 S ) . —The annual meeting of old forty-eight was held on Alonday , lhe 27 th ult ., at the ' New Masonic Hall , Jacksonstreet . The menu consisted of Spring delicacies , and reflected great credit to the purveyor , who appeared to please the tastes of all who partook of the repast . A pleasant evening ' s entertainment followed . The loyal and Alasonic toasts were received in a hearty and cordial

spirit . Bto . G . Greenwell , P . G . D . C , responded for "The Provincial Grand Lodge of Northumberland , " and expressed the pleasure he had experienced in seeing the admirable manner of doing the heavy work during the day . Bro . D . Sinclair , P . G . A . D . C , also replied . Bro . John Wood , LP . AL , proposed "The W . AL , " and Bro . J . G . Smith acknowledged the compliment in a fitting

speech . The VV . AI . in giving the next toast— "The Industry Alasonic Hall Company " —eulogised the Chairman , Bro . R . B . Reed , P . AL , for his steadfast perseverance in raising the structure in which they were gathered ; and referred to the prophesy , made that day twelve months , about the completion of their hall . nrfl l <_ . ___ .. __ ... „ , . _ -v * uuuvu j once more referred to the ancient working and position of their grand old lodge , and incidentally mentioned that he held in his hand a certificate granted by the lodge in 1 S 29 , which proved beyond all doubt that in olden times Old Industry Lodge had the right of granting certificates , which were now only issued from Grand Lodge . He also had the gratification of stating that the brother named in the

certificate was alive , and would possibly have the pleasure of coming to the lodge at a future meeting . The certificate was handed round to the brethren for perusal , and we give a cojjy of it for the benefit of our readers . The document is lithographed on parchment , and runs as follows : " Swalwell Lodge , No . O 4 . These are to certify that Brother Robinson Baker was made a Alason in

this lodge , known by the name of the Lodge of Industry , English Constitution , held at the house of Eliz . Brown , Swalwell , near Newcastle-upon-I ' yne , England , and was admitted to the Third Degree ( 5 th February , 5 S 26 ) o £ Alasonry , and as such do hereby recommend him to the brethren of all lodges legally constituted to be admitted by them after due examination . And to prevent anv

imposture herein , we have caused our brother to subscribe his own name , so that , by requesting the bearer to write his name , a judgment may be formed as to its authenticity . Ihe W . AL then asked the brethren to join him in the toast of " The P . AI . ' s of the Lodge , " and , in doing so , acknowledged the great assistance he had received from , his predecessors both inside and outside the lodge . Bro . Robert Whitfield , P . AL , in responding , thanked the VV . AI . for so gracefully alluding to his labours in connection with the lodge of instruction , and stated the W . AI . had reason to bc proud ot his P . AI . 's , inasmuch as he hade

behind him Bro . k . B . Reed , as Chairman of the Company ,. Bro . AL Corbitt , now as 'Treasurer , Bro . D . Sinclair , as . AI . C , Bro . John VVood , I . P . M ., and himself to assist in instructing those desirous of advancing in thc lodge . The VV . AI . here took thc opportunity of proposing thehealth of an old member of the lodge—Bro . Jos . Newton now engaged extensively in mining operations at the Rocky-Mountains , Colorado , and expressed the deli ght of thcmembers at seeing their old friend at home For a short period .

which might be required of him by the Corinthian Lodge . Other business havingbeen concluded , including "Hearty good wishes" to the new W . AL from the formidable array of visitors , lodge was closed and the brethren sat down in an adjoining apartment , elegantly arranged , to a capitally served banquet . Ample justice having been done to the good cheer , the W . AL , at a somewhat advanced hour , gave the toast of

"The Queen , alluding to the diabolical attempt which had been made upon Her Majesty ' s life . He was sure all Masons would join in thanking the G . A . O . T . U . for saving Her Alajesty from the assassin's hand . He coupled with the Queen the Craft . "His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales" was next toasted , followed by " The Earl of Carnarvon , Pro G . AL ; the Earl of Lathom , Dep . G . AL ; and the rest of the Grand

Officers , Present and Past . " Bro . Alillington , l . P . AL , next gave "The VV . AI . " in brief and suitable terms , after which the charity-box was passed round the table , and the W . AL . had the pleasure of announcing that its contents were £ 1 13 s . The W . AI . next returned thanks , alluding to the welfare of the lodge , which he pledged himself most heartily to

work for , and bespeaking from his officers that support which was so necessary to the well-being of the lodge . The remaining toasts were given somewhat out of the intended order , as , owing to the early departure of the last train , many of the brethren and visitors were compelled to

leave . The following were given : "The I . P . AI . ; " "The Visitors , " numerously responded to ; " The Past Alaster ;" " The Installing Master , " replied to by Bro . Delves ; " The Alasonic Institutions ; " "The Officers ; " and the Tyler's toast brought a most memorable and successful meeting to

Jessett gave a notice of motion : That , in accordance with former precedents , the sum of ten fjuineas should be voted to one of the three Alasonic Charities , the particular Institution to be chosen by the W . stand in his name . Several communications having been read , H 12 lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to a well-served collation . The customary Royal and Craft toasts followed . VV . Bro . F . Honeywell acknowledged the toast of " The Provincial Grand Officers . " "Thc Health of the VV . AI . " was kindly and flatteringlv

proposed by the Secretary . The VV . AI . having replied , then gave "The VV . AI . Elect . " Bro . Hiscox having suitably responded , " The Health of the Past Masters " followed . This toast was coupled with the name of Bro . Jessett , who briefly acknowledged the compliment .

" The Treasurer and Secretary came next in order , and drew from those brethren able but modest replies . "The Alasonic Charities " was then given . In proposing this toast , the W . M . drew the attention of thc brethren to the fact that Bto . Ockenden had been elected to represent the lodge as Steward to the Royal Masonic Institution

for Boys 1 S 82 , when he ( the VV . AI . ) hoped that Bro . Ockenden would be well supported by his brethren of No . 1512 . " The Health of the Officers , " coupled with the names of Bros . Aloody , Davey , and Honeywell , brought the proceedings to a conclusion .

His needless to say that the admirably efficient manner in which the beautiful ceremony was rendered by Bro . Poore called forth expressions of great satisfaction from the numerous

brethren who were on this occasion the guests of thelodge . The newly-installed W . AL gave _ proofs of his proficiency by his forcible addresses to thc officers , whom he appointed and invested in rotation , and there being no further business before the Iodge , it was closed in due form . A choice banquet followed labour , and the customary toasts were highly , but pertinently , given by the VV . AI . In the course of the evening a very handsome P . AI . ' s jewel

was presented to the l . P . AL , Bro . Donald Clark . To the toast of "The Visitors " several responses were made , the guests vieing with each other in their expressions of great satisfaction with both labour and refreshment . An excellent programme of music and recitations was fully cartied through , and especial reference may be made to the successful recent efforts of Bros . Chapman , R . I .

A most enjoyable evening and one greatly redounding to the credit of the Stuart Lodge was spent by all present , and the installation of Bro . Lilley as the VV . AI . for the ensuing year is not likely to be soon forgotten . It speaks well for that brother that so many members of the lodge held at his hotel at Balham attended to support him on this occasion .

As the cloth was not removed until a late hour , the toasts were somewhat curtailed . The toast of "The Grand Officers "was coupled with the name of VV . Bro . Levander , who made an excellent speech in response . "The Health of the Provincial Grand Officers" was connected with the name of VV . Bro . J . Hammond , who ,

in brief but fluent terms , duly acknowledged the compliment . "The VV . M . " followed . This pledge was given in a humourous vein by the l . P . AL , and it met with a very warm recognition . Bro . Hurst having modestly replied , the toast of " The Initiate" came next in order .

Bro . Bond having responded , the VV . M . proposed , in very cordial terms , "The Health of the Visitors , " to which important toast Bros . Noble , Kentish , and Alarvin suitably responded . " The Past Alasters " followed , and , in reply , Bro . Aston made a witty speech , which excited the risibilities of his auditory .

In proposing "The Health of the Treasurer and Secretary , " the W . AL dwelt at length upon the manifold good qualities of the two brethren occupying those positions . He specially thanked the latter for the very able way in which he had inducted him into the chair that evening , and which performance he remarked would not have disgraced a well-skilled veteran of the Craft .

Bros . Nuthall and Ockenden having briefly replied , the toast of " The Officers , " coupled with thc names of Bros . Walls and Featherstone , ' who responded , brought the proceedings to a conclusion .

He also had the gratification of stating that the brother named in the

certificate was alive , and would possibly have the pleasure of coming to the lodge at a future meeting . The certificate was handed round to the brethren for perusal , and we give a cojjy of it for the benefit of our readers . The document is lithographed on parchment , and runs as follows : " Swalwell Lodge , No . O 4 . These are to certify that Brother Robinson Baker was made a Alason in

this lodge , known by the name of the Lodge of Industry , English Constitution , held at the house of Eliz .
