M . and Treasurer took place . The S . VV ., Bro . Shand , was unanimously elected W . M . ; Bro . Swallow , P . G . S . D . Middx . ( founderof the lodge ) , was re-elected
Treasurer ; and Bro . Potter , Tyler . The usual jewel was voted to the retiring W . M . Propositions of candidates for next meeting were submitted ; three visitors desired to join the lodge . The brethren afterwards dined at the Cafe Royale ( Bro . Nicholl's ) , and the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , including "The W . M . Elect , " were given and responded to , and the brethren dispersed at eleven o ' clock .

On the return of the brethren from church , the Craft lodge was closed in due form , when the brethren proceeded to the Lion Hotel , where an excellent banquet was prepared by Bro . R . Lloyd . The usual loyal and Masonic roasts were given and responded to , a very pleasant evening being spent ; Bro . Chas . Blagbrough , of Leeds , contributing some excellent songs . The brethren retired at an early

Captain Long kindly made her annual donation of a magnificent pudding , and the privilege accorded the W . M . to furnish the dessert was carried out in a
manner that was highly appreciated . At the conclusion of the repast , the usual Masonic toasts , preceded by " The Queen and the Craft , " were duly honoured , after which "The Health of the W . M . " was cordially toasted , allusion being made to the manner in which Bro . Long had not only worked in the interest of his own lodge , but to his exertions in founding the sister lodge at Clevedon , which task
had been recognised by the Prov . Grand Master by the award of the highest collar of office at his disposal . The W . M . acknowledged the compliment in the course of a few well-chosen remarks , assuring the brethren that the success of Freemasonry would ever be his anxious study . Other toasts followed , the speakers including Bros . Rev . Knox Fletcher , Edwards , Scoones , and Hurd , and a most enjoyable evening was spent .

MANCHESTER . —Avon Lodge ( No . 1633 . )—The usual monthly meeting was held at the Denmark Hotel , Grecnheys , on Wednesday , the 22 nd ult . Bros . A . Painter , W . M . ; Whittaker , S . VV . ; and all the other ofiicers were present , and n , embers anil visitors numbering some thirty-two . The lodge was opened at Kive . o ' clock with solemn prayer , and the minutes of the previous meeting
were read and confirmed . 'The ballot was afterwards taken for two gentlemen , and , being unanimous in their favour , they were declared duly elected . One of them was then initiated into Freemasonry by the W . M ., after which the leielge was called off , and the brethren adjourned to tea , anel at 7 . 15 they re-assembled in the lodge-room , and the other candidate was duly initiated by the W . M . Bro .
Leigh , P . M ., delivered the corner stone address to both candidate's , and Bro . S . D . McKcllcn presented and explained the working tools in , 1 highly satisfactory manner . Bro . Bestock , P . M ., then assumc-d the W . M . ' s chair , and proceeded to interrogate Bro . J . C . Curtis , who was a candidate for raising . 'The manner in which Bro . Curtis answered the questions was most commendable , and is not often heard . Bro . Bestock then in a masterly manner
raised Bro . Curtis to the Sublime Degree of a M . M ., and the ceremony was never performed in finer style , the whole being done without a single hitch , and producing an impressive effect on the candidate , as on all present . On the conclusion of this beautiful ceremony the loelge was lowered by virtue , and when " Hearty good wishes " had been expressed by the visitors , was closed in peace and harmony at 9 . 10 .

SS ART EXHIBITION . — The managers of the Ecclesiastical Art Exhibition in connection with the Church Congreiss at Leicester have issued a catalogue raisonnc of its principal contents , showing thai the loan collection is much larger than last year , embracing upwartls of 400 specimens . Embroidery of the ancient and of the modern schools will be largely represented , in
chasubles , copies , e , rphreys , maniples , altar cloths , & c , not only English , but Flemish , French , and Italian . English and Continental missals , ancient bibles , early printed and in manuscript , Russo-Greek " Icones , " or religious and devotional pictures , monumental brasses , incised slabs , chalices , alms dishes , drawings and elevations of churches ,

manner that was highly appreciated . At the conclusion of the repast , the usual Masonic toasts , preceded by " The Queen and the Craft , " were duly honoured , after which "The Health of the W . M . " was cordially toasted , allusion being made to the manner in which Bro . Long had not only worked in the interest of his own lodge , but to his exertions in founding the sister lodge at Clevedon , which task
had been recognised by the Prov . Grand Master by the award of the highest collar of office at his disposal . The W . M . acknowledged the compliment in the course of a few well-chosen remarks , assuring the brethren that the success of Freemasonry would ever be his anxious study . Other toasts followed , the speakers including Bros . Rev . Knox Fletcher , Edwards , Scoones , and Hurd , and a most enjoyable evening was spent .

VV . ; and all the other ofiicers were present , and n , embers anil visitors numbering some thirty-two . The lodge was opened at Kive . o ' clock with solemn prayer , and the minutes of the previous meeting
were read and confirmed . 'The ballot was afterwards taken for two gentlemen , and , being unanimous in their favour , they were declared duly elected . One of them was then initiated into Freemasonry by the W . M ., after which the leielge was called off , and the brethren adjourned to tea , anel at 7 . 15 they re-assembled in the lodge-room , and the other candidate was duly initiated by the W . M . Bro .
Leigh , P . M ., delivered the corner stone address to both candidate's , and Bro . S . D . McKcllcn presented and explained the working tools in , 1 highly satisfactory manner . Bro . Bestock , P . M ., then assumc-d the W . M . ' s chair , and proceeded to interrogate Bro . J . C . Curtis , who was a candidate for raising . 'The manner in which Bro . Curtis answered the questions was most commendable , and is not often heard . Bro . Bestock then in a masterly manner
raised Bro . Curtis to the Sublime Degree of a M . M ., and the ceremony was never performed in finer style , the whole being done without a single hitch , and producing an impressive effect on the candidate , as on all present . On the conclusion of this beautiful ceremony the loelge was lowered by virtue , and when " Hearty good wishes " had been expressed by the visitors , was closed in peace and harmony at 9 . 10 .

SS ART EXHIBITION . — The managers of the Ecclesiastical Art Exhibition in connection with the Church Congreiss at Leicester have issued a catalogue raisonnc of its principal contents , showing thai the loan collection is much larger than last year , embracing upwartls of 400 specimens . Embroidery of the ancient and of the modern schools will be largely represented , in
chasubles , copies , e , rphreys , maniples , altar cloths , & c , not only English , but Flemish , French , and Italian . English and Continental missals , ancient bibles , early printed and in manuscript , Russo-Greek " Icones , " or religious and devotional pictures , monumental brasses , incised slabs , chalices , alms dishes , drawings and elevations of churches ,
photographs and chromo-lithographs of old ecclesiastical pictures , and every variety of illumination will be there ; and worshippers of relics will have permission to inspect inter alia , a piece of ancient embroidery "traditionally said to have formed part of Wickliffe's vestment , " and ^ scnt for exhibition by the present Rector of Lutterworth .
