Grand Chapter having been opened in form , the roll of chapters was called , and 32 out of 40 answered . The minutes of the meeting held at Sheffield , on May nth , having been confirmed ,

The ACTING GRAND SUPERINTENDENT , in addressing the companions , said : In assuming the chair to preside over you at this your Provincial Grand Chapter , allow me in the first place to express my great regret , and I feel sure I may say your regret also , at the continued illness of our Grand Superintendent , Comp . T . W . Tew . We all thought at the first that the illness of our revered chief was only of a temporary nature , and that

ere long we should again welcome him in our midst , but as time passes along and he is still absent our hopes grow less and less , yet " while there is life there is hope , " and we can only leave the matter in the hands of the Most Hig h , praying and trusting that He will direct all to His glory and thc Welfare of our Order . I must therefore ask you to bear with me while I endeavour to discharge the duties that have fallen upon me , for although

I may not hold in your hearts the same affectionate place as our revered chief , yet you may be assured that there is no one who takes a greater interest in the prosperity and welfare of our Order than he who now addresses you . We have , companions , a special object in our visit to Huddersfield to-day , viz ., assisting in the celebration of the centenary of the Perseverance Chapter , No . 275 . I shall shortly have the pleasure of calling upon our

Comp . Henry Smith , Prov . G . S . E ,, to present on behalf of our Grand Superintendent the centenary warrant to the companions of the Chapter under whose banner we meet to-day . The Acting Grand Superintendent then proceeded to read an address on the past history of the chapter , which had b ' cen delivered by Comp . A . H . J . Fletcher to thc members of the Perseverance Chapter , No . 275 , which address hc had most kindly placed

at the disposal of thc province . It gave a clear and succinct history of the chapter from thc date of ils consitution to thc present time , which we much regret the demand on our space will not at present admit of our presenting to our readers . At the conclusion , Comp . Mason dealt with the events of thc past year , which included the consecration of two new chapters—Prudence , No . 2069 , and Pentalpha , No . 974—the latter being notable for the visit to the province for the first time of the Grand Scribe E .

1 he PROV . G . S . E . then , in very feeling terms , referred to the continued absence from their meetings of their revered Grand Superintendent , and concluded by congratulating Perseverance Chapier on obtaining its centenary warrant . After a vote of condolence to thc widow of the late Comp . James Crown , P . Z ., and an expression of satisfaction at the improvement in the health of the Grand Superintendent , Provincial Grand Chapter was closed .

Fisher Tasker , Wm . Laycock , J . P . Hewitt , and A . H . J . Fletcher , Prov . G . Stewards ; also Principals , Past Principals , and companions of other chapters in the province . Prov .
