The Secretary proposed the toast of " The W . M . and lhe acting W . M . " Bro . Scholding , in reply , expressed his great regret at the cause that led to the W . Al . ' s departure . Bro . FUlier vvas an old Alason , a Past Master of several lodges , and a brother who had gained the respect of every one with ivhom he had been brought into contact . He had just

retired from the Police Force , after a long and honourable career . He had by zeal and hard work risen to be Chief Superintendent of the Metropolitan Police . As to himself , he could only say that he was very proud of No . 1512 . He was initiated in it , and , as W . AI . during a very busy year of office , he had done his best . " The Initiate " was toasted , and replied .

Bros . Coxon and Bartlett made excellent speeches in response to the toast of " The Visitors , " Bros . Ransford and Wheatley responded on behalf of " The Past Alasters , " Bros . Jessett and Walls for " The Treasurer and Secret ary , " Bro . J . Smith for "The Alaster elect , " and Bros . Robinson and Hopkins for ' * The Officers . " The members then separated .

Wolsey Lodge ( No . 1656 ) . —An emergency meeting of this rapidly increasing and flourishing lodge was held at the Greyhound Hotel on the 14 th ult . Among those present were Bros . AL and his officers are to be heartily congratulated upon lhe manner in which they performed the whole of the three arduous ceremonies . The Degrees were not in the least

Provincial Meetings.

Goadacre , P . M ., Treasurer , was very ill , and he was sure all the brethren would join with him in expressing a wish that the G . A . O . T . U . would soon restore him to health , and and once more be with them in the lodge . " Hearty good wishes " were given by the visiting brethren , and the lodge was closed . A vote of thanks was passed to the Installing Officer , and he was presented with a gold bar in recognition of his second years' occupancy of the chair . A vote of thanks was passed with acclamation to Bro . Alajor-General T . Cuming , R . A ., for his services as J . D ., and for the admirable manner in which he had delivered the ancient

charge to the E . A . The report of the Audit Committee was received and adopted . An apology from Bro . W . Taylor , P . AL , P . P . G . W ., was received , as well as one from Bro . D . P . Cama , P . G . Treas . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet . Upon the removal of the cloth , thc customary loyal and Craft toasts received full justice .

Bro . the Rev . R . J . Simpson , ALA ., P . G . Chap ., in responding for "The Grand Officers , " spoke in feeling terms of the great loss their body had sustained by the lamented deaths of Bros . Sir Francis Burdett and Col . Shadwell H . Clerke . He then went on to speak of his long connection with the lodge as an honorary member , and said that he felt proud to have assisted at its birth iS years ago , and to find

that day that it was so flourishing . He was charmed with the manner in which the I . P . M . had initiated a candidate into the Order and also installed his successor . The lodge was fortunate in having good and worthy Alasons in it , notably Bros . Walls and the Rev . S . T . H . Saunders , who were both capable of performing any of the ceremonies at a moment ' s notice . He should look forward to his next visit

to the lodge with pleasure . Bro . H . H . Room , in responding to " The Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past , " after dealing exhaustively with the subject toast , called the attention of the brethren to thc fact that a Charity Association in connection with the province had recently been called into existence . The executive had no desire to dictate to the brethren of the province as to

the manner in which they should dispose of their respective votes ; but what was wanted was united action in the event of a provincial case being in need of support . These Associations worked well in other provinces , and he did not see why Aliddlesex should be left out in the cold . "The Initiate" having been toasted and replied , the LP . AL gave "The VV . AI . " in warm termsofcommendation .

The W . AL having replied , gave "The Installing Officer . " He said that Bro . Toulmin had worked very hard to perfect himself , and they would all agree that he had done well that day . The LP . AL having modestly expressed his thanks , the W . AL gave "The Visitors . " He said that his brother , in a dual sense , had rendered good service lo the lodge that day , both as a J . D . and as an exponent of the beautiful 1

charge of the Iirst Degree . He also spoke of t * ie qualities of an old and tried Alason like Bro . Hopwood . Bros . Alajor-General Cuming and li . Hopwood acknowledged the toast at some length . Bros . W . H . Saunders and the Rev . S . T . H . Saunders

responded on behalf of "Thc Past Alasters ; " Bros . Briggs and Walls for "The Treasurer and Secretary ;" and Bros . Capt . Perry , Davis , and Alacchi for " The Officers . " The W . AL is to be congratulated upon the succjss that attended his installation meeting .

Bro . the Rev . R . J . Simpson , ALA ., P . G . Chap ., in responding for "The Grand Officers , " spoke in feeling terms of the great loss their body had sustained by the lamented deaths of Bros . Sir Francis Burdett and Col . Shadwell H . Clerke . He then went on to speak of his long connection with the lodge as an honorary member , and said that he felt proud to have assisted at its birth iS years ago , and to find

that day that it was so flourishing . He was charmed with the manner in which the I . P . M . had initiated a candidate into the Order and also installed his successor . The lodge was fortunate in having good and worthy Alasons in it , notably Bros . Walls and the Rev . S . T . H . Saunders , who were both capable of performing any of the ceremonies at a moment ' s notice . He should look forward to his next visit

to the lodge with pleasure . Bro . H . H . Room , in responding to " The Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past , " after dealing exhaustively with the subject toast , called the attention of the brethren to thc fact that a Charity Association in connection with the province had recently been called into existence . The executive had no desire to dictate to the brethren of the province as to

the manner in which they should dispose of their respective votes ; but what was wanted was united action in the event of a provincial case being in need of support . These Associations worked well in other provinces , and he did not see why Aliddlesex should be left out in the cold . "The Initiate" having been toasted and replied , the LP . AL gave "The VV . AI . " in warm termsofcommendation .

The W . AL having replied , gave "The Installing Officer . " He said that Bro . Toulmin had worked very hard to perfect himself , and they would all agree that he had done well that day . The LP . AL having modestly expressed his thanks , the W . AL gave "The Visitors . " He said that his brother , in a dual sense , had rendered good service lo the lodge that day , both as a J . D . and as an exponent of the beautiful 1

charge of the Iirst Degree . He also spoke of t * ie qualities of an old and tried Alason like Bro . Hopwood . Bros . Alajor-General Cuming and li . Hopwood acknowledged the toast at some length . Bros . W . H . Saunders and the Rev . S . T . H . Saunders
