many of them were aware , enjoyed the privilege of presiding over a London lodge ( the Lewis ) , ten years ago , and he was still a member of it , at the same time he felt very sensible of the great honour the members of the Urmston Lodge had done him in placing him in such an important position , and assured them they would not regret their confidence . He was very fond of work ; and trusted

they would find him plenty to do , and that at the termination of his year of office he should have done a little more for Freemasonry in general , and the Urmston Lodge in particular . The Worshipful Master , in a graceful speech , proposed "The Health of the I . P . M ., Bro . Slyman , " and referred to the popularity that brother enjoyed , and the admirable

manner in which he had fulfilled the duties of W . M . and Installing Master . As a slight acknowledgment for his valuable and highly appreciated services , he ( Bro . Bone ) felt great pleasure in presenting Bro . Slyman with a gold P . M . ' s jewel ( manufactured by Bro . George Kenning , 47 , Bridge-street , Manchester ) , and hoped he might long be spared to wear it . In conclusion he called upon the brethren to drink the health of their I . P . M .

The invitation was promptly responded to , and Bro . Slyman returned thanks in appropriate terms . Other toasts , including " The P . M . ' s ; " "The Masonic Charities ; " " The Visiting Brethren ; " "The Officers ;" "The Neighbouring Lodges , " . & c , were proposed and responded to ; the intervals between each being enlivened with songs and recitations from Bros . The lodge having been closed , nearly 100 brethren and ladies assembled in the drawing-room , and then adjourned to the large hall , where the banquet—provided by Bro . Reynolds , I . G . During the evening the W . M . presented to the I . P . M ., Bro . Wm . Webster , a handsome P . M . ' s jewel , which had

been subscribed for by the brethren , and was , as the inscription testified , intended as a mark of their esteem . The jewel is the second of its kind manufactured for the lodge by Bro . George Kenning . It consists of the arms of H . R . H . Prince Edward of Wales , in gold and enamel , with the P . M . ' s jewel pendant .

The evening ' s entertainment consisted of songs , glees , readings , & c , in the drawing-room and dancing in the large hall . The various rooms had been tastefully decorated for the occasion , a conspicuous feature being the large number of handsome pictures which embellished the walls , kindly provided by Bro . A . VV . Reynolds , I . G .
