Thc report of the committee appointed to revise the bye-laws was read , but the consideration of the subject was . adjourned until the next meeting . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet , which was well served . Upon the removal of the cloth , the customary toasts were given and duly

responded to . "The Health of the VV . M . " was proposed in fluent terms by the I . P . M . Bro . Heaphy , having modestly acknowledged the compliment , then gave a most interesting and erudite dissertation upon the principles of Freemasonry , and other matters more or less bearing upon kindred subjects . The toast of "The Initiate" came next in order , and

drew from Bro . Hakim a brief , but excellent response . "The Health of the Visitors "followed , and , in acknowledgment , Bros . Frayling , Archibald , and others , respectively expressed their gratification with the admirable working of the I . P . M . and subordinate officers . "The Past Masters" was coupled with the I . P . M ., who briefly replied , and "The Officers '" toast was acknowledged by Bros . Carter , Stuart , and Clark .

LODGE OF ASAPH ( No . 1319 ) . —On Monday afternoon last , an ordinary business meeting of this influential and popular lodge was held in the Zetland Rooms , Freemasons' Hall , the brethren mustering in their usual strength . Thc present VV . M ., Bro . William Meyer Lutz , follows the good example set him by his predecessors in the chair of K . S ., and makes punctuality his first rule ; nor ,

1559 . The minutes of the meeting held on thc Gth March having been read and confirmed , the ballot was taken for Mr . Henry Field , proposed by Bra . Kahlanc and seconded by Bro . J . Willing , jun ., thecandidate being elected unanimously . Bro . J . J . Dallas was proposed as a joining member by Bro . John Maclean , S . VV ., and seconded by Bro .

K . Soutar , the ballot in this case being likewise unanimous . Bro . II . P . Kranshaar , a candidate for the Second Degree , was passed by the W . M ., after wbich Bro . Clively was raised to the Sublime Degree of M . M ., the W . M . rendering the ceremony in a very impressive manner . Messs . H . Parkin , J . G . Speaight , and J . A . Hamilton , candidates for initiation , who had been ' . elected at the previous meeting ,

were duly initiated into the mysteries and privileges of ancient Freemasonry , the W . M . here , as before , discharging the impoitant duties of his high office with great credit . On the proposition of Bro . Charles VVellard , I . P . M ., Bro . Edward Swanborough , P . M ., was unanimously elected to fill the vacancy on the Benevolent Fund

Committee , occasioned by the death of the late Bro . Henry Cox . On the motion of the W . M ., asumof ten guineas was voted tothe list of Bro . C . Wellard , P . M ., as Steward , representing the lodge ot Asaph at the ensuing Masonic Charity Festivals . Letters from several brethren regretting their inability to attend were then read by Bro . Secretary , as also one from the Portsmouth Masonic Club , which

jovial body invited any members of the Lodge of Asaph , who might be professionally engaged at the forthcoming review , to make themselves at home , affording them the privilege of honorary membership during their stay . This concluding the business lodge was closed in due form . A party of Past Masters subsequently paid Mons . Phillippe a visit to the Cavour Hotel , Leicester-square , and dined together in love and harmony .

WEST SMITHFIELD LODGE ( No . 1623 ) . — A highly successful meeting of this prosperous lodge was held at the Freemasons' Hall , Great Queen-street , on the iCth ult . Bro . W . Malthouse , C . The minutes of . the last regular meeting having been regularly confirmed , Bro . VVorrell was raised to the rank of a Master Mason in a very impressive manner , and Bros . Freeman , Gaynor , Rumball , Gaudin , and Sutton were passed to the degree of F . C . The next business was to initiate Mr . J . Francom , who had bcen previously balloted forinto thc secrets and mysteries of the Order , and this

, concluding ceremony was performed with admirable precision and marked effect . Other lodge business , which gave Bro . Secretary plenty of agreeable work , was disposed of ; and " Hearty good wishes " having been given , the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the Holborn Restaurant , where they

partook of a capital banquet which was served under the personal superintei . dar . ee of BTO . Hamp , in the excellent style usual at this establishment . After grace , the W . M . gave the usual toasts , and the brethren spent a pleasant hour in harmony ; Bro . Egbert Roberts ably seconding the musicalefforts of the brethren at the pianoforte .

ROYAL HANOVER LODGE ( No . 1777 ) . — The first meeting of the season was held on Saturday , the 25 th ult ., at the Albany Hotel , Twickenham . The lodge was opened at four o'clock by thc VV . A brother having been proposed as a joining member and "Hearty good VVishes" tendered by the visitors , the lodge was closed and the brethren adjourned to refreshment , after which the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given and heartily received , and the Tyler ' s toast brought the proceedings to a close .

SWINDON . —Gooch Lodge ( No . 1295 ) . —The annual festival of this lodge was held on Friday evening , the 31 st ult ., at the Queen's Royal Hotel , when the installation of the VV . M ., called attention to the testimonial wliich was being got up as a compliment to Bro . Richard Brown , P . M ., P . P . G . Treas . ( a member of the Dramatic Lodge ) , in recognition of his

eminently valuable services as Honorary Secretary of the West Lancashire Masonic Educational Institution for nearl y ten years ; and he ( the VV . M . ) warmly advocated the claims which the proposed testimonial had upon the liberal support of all the brethren . Labour being concluded , about sixty members and visitors adjourned to the banqueting-room , where an excellent dinner was served .

In the course of the pleasant after-dinner proreedings the W . M ., in a happy speech , presented one of the principal officers with an appropriate testimonial as some slight recognition of successful services in a sphere whicli he has long occupied with admirable self-devotion and success . The gift was acknowledged by the " Dramatic " officer in a manner whicli showed he fully appreciated the thoughtful kindness of his brethren .

An excellent programme of music and recitations was given by Bros . Webster Williams , Josef Cantor , Witty Watty Walton , J acobs , E . Brammall , J . J . Monk , and G . Martin .

The evening was devoted to the working of the Sections , under the able presidency of Bro . VV . 11 . Myers , P . M . S 20 and 1445 , who had secured the co-operation of some of the best workers to support him . Bros . T . J . Barnes , P . M . 554 and 933 acted as

At the conclusion of the working , Bros . George Sampson , 1327 , and M . Treuherz , 172 S , were unanimously admitted members of the lodge . Bro . Preceptor proposed that Bro . Myers be elected an Hon . member of the lodge , and that a vote of thanks be recorded on the minutes for the very able discharge of the duties of the chair that evening . Carried unanimously .

Bro . Barnes in kindly terms addressed Bro . Myers upon the successful issue of the evening . Bro . Myers , although an old Mason and a Preceptor , had been a long time before he would work the Fifteen Sections , feeling that until hc was perfectly acquainted with the whole of the answers he would not put the questions . Bro . Barnes thought Bro .

Myers was to be commended for his hi gh spirit , and that brethren might profit by his example . In reply to a vote of thanks to Bros . S . VV . and J . VV ., Bros . Barnes and Cundick severally responded , expressing themselves as to the high qualities of the working , and of the great pleasure it was to them to assist . Lodge was then closed .

UNITED PILGRIMS' LODGE No . ( 507 ) . — A meeting of this lodge was held on Friday , the 31 st ult ., at the Surrey Masonic Hall , Camberwell , S . E . Present Bros . James Stevens , P . M ., Hon . responded to . "The Health of the VV . M . " was proposed in fluent terms by the I . P . M . Bro . Heaphy , having modestly acknowledged the compliment , then gave a most interesting and erudite dissertation upon the principles of Freemasonry , and other matters more or less bearing upon kindred subjects . The toast of "The Initiate" came next in order , and

drew from Bro . Hakim a brief , but excellent response . "The Health of the Visitors "followed , and , in acknowledgment , Bros . Frayling , Archibald , and others , respectively expressed their gratification with the admirable working of the I . P . M . and subordinate officers . "The Past Masters" was coupled with the I . P . M ., who briefly replied , and "The Officers '" toast was acknowledged by Bros . Carter , Stuart , and Clark .

LODGE OF ASAPH ( No . 1319 ) . —On Monday afternoon last , an ordinary business meeting of this influential and popular lodge was held in the Zetland Rooms , Freemasons' Hall , the brethren mustering in their usual strength . Willing , jun ., thecandidate being elected unanimously . Bro . J . J . Dallas was proposed as a joining member by Bro . John Maclean , S . VV ., and seconded by Bro .

K . Soutar , the ballot in this case being likewise unanimous . Bro . II . P . Kranshaar , a candidate for the Second Degree , was passed by the W . M ., after wbich Bro . Clively was raised to the Sublime Degree of M . M ., the W . M . rendering the ceremony in a very impressive manner . Messs . H . Parkin , J . G . Speaight , and J . A . Hamilton , candidates for initiation , who had been ' . elected at the previous meeting ,

were duly initiated into the mysteries and privileges of ancient Freemasonry , the W . M . here , as before , discharging the impoitant duties of his high office with great credit . On the proposition of Bro . Charles VVellard , I . P . M ., Bro . Edward Swanborough , P . M ., was unanimously elected to fill the vacancy on the Benevolent Fund

Committee , occasioned by the death of the late Bro . Henry Cox . On the motion of the W . M ., asumof ten guineas was voted tothe list of Bro . C . Wellard , P . M ., as Steward , representing the lodge ot Asaph at the ensuing Masonic Charity Festivals . Letters from several brethren regretting their inability to attend were then read by Bro . Secretary , as also one from the Portsmouth Masonic Club , which

jovial body invited any members of the Lodge of Asaph , who might be professionally engaged at the forthcoming review , to make themselves at home , affording them the privilege of honorary membership during their stay . This concluding the business lodge was closed in due form . A party of Past Masters subsequently paid Mons . Phillippe a visit to the Cavour Hotel , Leicester-square , and dined together in love and harmony .

Francom , who had bcen previously balloted forinto thc secrets and mysteries of the Order , and this

, concluding ceremony was performed with admirable precision and marked effect . Other lodge business , which gave Bro . Secretary plenty of agreeable work , was disposed of ; and " Hearty good wishes " having been given , the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the Holborn Restaurant , where they

eminently valuable services as Honorary Secretary of the West Lancashire Masonic Educational Institution for nearl y ten years ; and he ( the VV . M . ) warmly advocated the claims which the proposed testimonial had upon the liberal support of all the brethren . Labour being concluded , about sixty members and visitors adjourned to the banqueting-room , where an excellent dinner was served .

In the course of the pleasant after-dinner proreedings the W . M ., in a happy speech , presented one of the principal officers with an appropriate testimonial as some slight recognition of successful services in a sphere whicli he has long occupied with admirable self-devotion and success . The gift was acknowledged by the " Dramatic " officer in a manner whicli showed he fully appreciated the thoughtful kindness of his brethren .

An excellent programme of music and recitations was given by Bros . Webster Williams , Josef Cantor , Witty Watty Walton , J acobs , E . Brammall , J . J . Monk , and G . Martin .

At the conclusion of the working , Bros . George Sampson , 1327 , and M . Treuherz , 172 S , were unanimously admitted members of the lodge . Bro . Preceptor proposed that Bro . Myers be elected an Hon . member of the lodge , and that a vote of thanks be recorded on the minutes for the very able discharge of the duties of the chair that evening . Carried unanimously .

Bro . Barnes in kindly terms addressed Bro . Myers upon the successful issue of the evening . Bro . Myers , although an old Mason and a Preceptor , had been a long time before he would work the Fifteen Sections , feeling that until hc was perfectly acquainted with the whole of the answers he would not put the questions . Bro . Barnes thought Bro .

Myers was to be commended for his hi gh spirit , and that brethren might profit by his example . In reply to a vote of thanks to Bros . S . VV . and J . VV ., Bros . Barnes and Cundick severally responded , expressing themselves as to the high qualities of the working , and of the great pleasure it was to them to assist . Lodge was then closed .
