that it added very much to the credit of tneir Scotch brethren in Lancashire , that in spite o f" the refusal to extend recognition , the ) ' had said ' We will no longer be parties to extend this disunion ,
and our determination henceforth is that Lancashire shall act under one banner . " ( App lause ) . When lie reflected that St . John ' s Lodge , at Bolton , had minutes dating as far back as J 7 <; o ,
a date far anterior to the Grand Chapter of Scotland itself , he could onl y suppose they were misinformed as to the position of the Alark Degree in England . The time would come when the )
would recede lrom the step they had taken , and extend that recognition whicli other chapters had done . ( Applause ) . He was anxious to express his thanks , and he was sure they would all do the
same , to the Past Deputy Provincial Grand Master of the Scotch Constitution , Brother Matier , for the pluck he had shown in bringing a motion before the Grand Chapter of Scotland
that this Order should be recognised , when he was onl y defeated b y a majority of one—v . majority which rendeicd them perfectly certain they would obtain the recognition they desired . The G . AL resumed his seat amid loud cheers ,
bro . Parkinson , P . J . G . W ., proposed . " Tim Health of the Past Grand Alasters of tlie Order , " and pointed out that Lords Carnarvon , Lei g h , and Holmesdale , as well as Bro . Beach , M . P ., all held the ollice of Prov . G . AL in the Crali .
The Grand Master , in proposing " The Health ofthe Grand Master ofthe Province , " believed he'was the onl y man who could have been found under whom both sections of Alark
Masonry would be content to work , because he represented that which , from his sli ght knowled ge of Lancashire men , he thought mi ght be taken to represent their characters , a warm
heart and the sound knowledge of a man of business . ( Applause . ) When some two years ago he found that the Scotch Royal Arch Chapter " was obtaining a very powerful hold oyer Lancashire , while the lodges under their banner
\ vere not in so flourishing a condition as could be wished , he at once applied to his friend in thc chair to take charge of this province in the interest of English Alark Masonry . It was only
ri ght to tell them ofthe advance of Alark Alasonry which had been made in the past two years . Two years ago there were six lodges in the province v ' - 'i 147 members . These six lodges now
contained 2 y . ( . members , and nine new lodges had been consecrated , containing 232 members , owing to the personal character of their Chairman . . und the pleasure which all Lancashire felt in

CONSECRATION OF A NEW LODGE AT ORMSKIRK .
Alonday , the 30 i . l 1 ult ., was a " red letter day " day in the Alasonic history of Ormskirk . and the gathering of the brethren on the intcrvstinsr
occasion was both numerous and influential . The consecration of the West Lancashire Lodge , No . 1403 on the register of the Grand Lodge , will not only add greater strength to the alread y strong list of lodges in the province , but ,
from thee auspices under which it is started , will docbtless , add increased lustre to Masonic li ght in the town where it has been established . The Lodge of Harmony , No . 5 , has hitherto been the only lodge in Ormskirk , but as the cause of
Alasonry has increased rapidl y in the district , a necessity has been felt for the addition of the West Lancashire Lodge . As its name implies , the new lodge is intended to accommodate not the brethren in Ormskirk merely , but also those
in tiie district surrounding the town , where the spirit of . Masonry has greatly increased within the last few years . Much of this success is doubtless due to the legitimate influence of Bro . the Right Hon . Lord Skelmersdale , R . AV . P . G . S .

in the progress and prosperity of the Craft , and his willingness at all times to submit to any sacrifice so that he may faithfully fulfil his Masonic duties . It shot . Id be mentioned that
his lordship will entertain royal visitors , the Prince and Princess Teck . at Lathorm House next ' week , but even in the midst of the preparations for tills distinguished visit , which mi ght well have a I forded Bro . Lord Skelstucrdale an
excuse lor absence , he generousl y gave up his valuable time to attend and consecrate the new lodge . The ceremony took place at the Commercial Hotel , in which a handsome lodge room has been found and furnished .
