The _ " Initiate " was proposed by the W . M ., who said he had known Bro . Fells for 30 years in business , and felt sure that they had in him a brother of whom the lodge might be proud . After Bro . Fells had suitably replied , the W . M . gave the toast of " The Visitors , " expressing the pleasure he felt in seeing so many present , to which Bros . Oxley , Fisher , and Day replied .

The W . M ., in proposing " The Heilth of the I . P . M ., " felt sure that the toast would receivefromthemtheheartiest reception ; it was with very great pleasure that he , on behalf of the Clarence and Avondale Lodge , affixed the Past Master's jewel to Bro . Fennell ' s breast in lodge , in addition to wh'cYi , in recognition of his very able and efficient services to the lodge , he asked him to accept , on behalf of the brethren , a very handsome gilt clock and side nieces .

Bro . Fennell in reply said he could hardly find words to thank them sufficiently ; firstly , for the Past Master's jewel given , and secondly , for the very handsome present before him . It had been hard work to him , but he felt sure now , as the recipient of the brethren ' s gift , that he had given satisfaction , this alone repaid him . The remaining toasts of " The Past Masters , " " The Treasurer and Secretary , " and " The Officers , " were given and replied to , the Tylers toast concluding a most enjoyable meeting at a late hour .

The vocal efforts of Bros . A . C . Dennis Andrew , J . A . Barnes , A . Carter , H Thorn , and E . W . Greenwood , contributed much to the success of the evening .

Chapter was closed , and an excellent banquet fallowed . The customary loyal and Masonic toasts were heartily honoured . In proposing " The Queen and Royal Arch Freemasonry , " the M . E . Z . said they

all knew that Royal Arch Freemasonry was founded on the purest principles of piety and virtue , and no one had ever lived up to those principles to a fuller extent than her Most Gracious Majesty the Queen . Royalty and Freemasonry had long been closely bound together in England , and might that union ever continue to exist ! The M . E . Z . proposed "The Grand Officers , Present and Past , " and pointed out that those distinguished companions had gained their positions by services rendered to

the Craft , and reminded the companions how ready they still were to do all in their power for the good of the Order . had been distinguished in science , law , and letters , and it would be his ambition to try to follow their noble example . He thought that no companion had ever been called upon to preside over the chapter under sadder circumstances than he had . During the past few months death had claimed three of their companions , who were justly looked upon as the three pillars of the chapter , viz ., Comps . J . R . Roberts , F . Eckstein , and J . Pearson . It seemed almost impossible that they should hear no more the hearty laugh of Comp . Roberts , enjoy the well told stories and the sparkling wit of Comp .

Eckstein , or listen to the more serious view of life which was always expressed so well by Comp . Pearson . The chapter had most certainly sustained a serious loss , but by working in the same spirit that had actuated those departed companions he had no doubt the chapter would long continue to flourish and prosper . " The H . and J ., " was next given by the M . E . Z . He spoke highly of the devotion to the chapter which had been shown by Comps . Farrow and Thwaites . They all deeply regretted that illness hid prevented the former from being with | them that evening .

Z ., in proposing " The Exaltees , " said they were two personal friends of his—Comps . T . Simpson and the Rev . H . Vyvian Tyrrel—and it would be impossible to find anywhere two better men and Masons . _ Comps . T . Simpson and the Rev . H . Vyvian Tyrrel both responded , and expressed their thanks at having been admitted into the Urban Chapter . They had been much impressed with the ceremony , and would do all in their power to promote the interests of Royal Arch Freemasonry in general , and the Urban Chapter in particular .

"The Visitors " was cordially given by the M . E . Z ,, who referred in kindly and complimentary terms to each visiting companion present , and a suitable response having been made by each visitor , the following toasts were duly honoured : " The Scribe E ., " "The Past Principals , " "The Officers , " and the Janitor . During the evening some excellent songs were sung by Comps . C Ortner , W . S . Thwaites , and G . Nelson Watts , and the Rev . H . Vyvian Tyrrel fairly convulsed the companions with some capital recitations . Altogether , the meeting was a most successful and enjoyable one .
